I think it was in some sort of old Roman enterance ( the centre of the old town has a huge Roman Emperors Retirement "Villa" situated in it). Anyway the guy behind the bar had a beret on with comats and a T-shirt with rolled up sleves and the same hair cut and facial hair as our "Wolfe" character. All the staff had weird clothes on, another chap had some sort of flamboyant waiters uniform on and stood with his hand behind his back and held a silver tray?. The "Wolfe" guy was a very nice chap, made us drink all night , ahem, and when we ran out of cigarettes, and they don't sell any at the bar there, he just keep offering us cigs all night until a very drunk old psychic said horrible things about us and we left, as to not get in a fight with her!

I have no plans in the general future to visit Yugoslavia, but thank you for the heads up. How do you know this "Wolfe" guy you speak of? Are you sure he still works there? =)

Sorry, just saw the Living in Oblivion bit on this thread. If your ever in Split, Croatia, go to the Ghetto Club, and you can have Wolf (minus eye patch) serve you great beer and give you lots of free cigarettes .

now see Lovely and Amazing - also with Catherine Keener and also by Nicole Holofcener. The song at the end of the movie is worth the whole thing, but the scene with Emily Mortimer and Dylan McDermott (you will know which one when you see it) is so real and great. Ms. Holofcener has a knack for that.

Caddyshack is, along with Dumb And Dumber, the funniest film ever in my opinion.

Living In Oblivion is a fun film. I watched it once about a year and a half ago, so it's a bit vague, but I remember each of the segments being entertaining. And Buscemi's always worth watching.

Dean Ween, shortly before Brando died: "He's played Vito Corelone, Colonel Kurtz, and Stanley Kowalski all in one lifetime. What have you done?"
n/a Posted - 07/16/2004 : 11:36:20
I bought the soundtrack to the film too, how great is it, I love Cat Stevens. And I read in the other thread about "trouble" as soon as it starts the tears start rolling down my face...

(Tre, I only mentioned it for your info, not cause it was redundant. Besides, the search things hardly ever works, so people new to the place can't really be faulted for not knowing what came up hundreds of threads ago. I noticed lbf is putting up links to all movie talk, so I just thought it would fit in nicely. I loooove that picture, btw. I am going to make it my desktop!)
n/a Posted - 07/16/2004 : 11:24:33
aaaaah a relative newbie so tre did not know. If no one minds though can the picture stay 'cos it is so lovely.

I'm well impressed. and weller impresseder too!

And yeah, I love this film, I don't think there has ever been a time I was bored by it or a time it has failed to move me to tears both through laughter and heart-break...

There was a thread about that wonderful movie on here a while ago, Tre. (maybe lbf, resident master movie thread wizard can find it?) It is near the top of my favorite movies of all time. It remains an inspiration. Ruth Gordon was amazing too.

Harold and Maude, and if any of you have seen it I will be well impressed and if any of you love it I will be weller impresseder. Because it is soooooooooooooooooo good.

Here's a brief synopsis and a still....

Harold is a depressed, death-obsessed 20-year-old man-child who spends his free time attending funerals and staging fake suicides in front of his mother. At a funeral, Harold befriends Maude, a 79-year-old woman who has a zest for life. She and Harold spend much time together during which she exposes him to the wonders and possibilities of life. After rejecting his mother's three attempts to set him up with a potential wife, and committing fake suicide in front of all of them, Harold announces that he is to be married to Maude. However, Maude has a surprise for Harold that is to change his life forever.

(please keep in mind though.. this film is essentially a dark rom/com)
