So after avoiding watching this for a long time simply because Tom Cruise was the main character, I finally decided to watch it. And my reaction? I don't really feel like I was missing anything by not having seen it before, but I didn't hate it. I mean, I enjoyed it while I watched it, though I don't think I felt as weirded out by the film as I was supposed to. I've seen too many Lynch films to be weirded out by a film like this. And I could have done w/o the ending where they explain everything. It was too neat and tidy. Sure, maybe some clues, but for everything to be spelled out so elaborately? No. And I felt like the parts where things got really out there weren't very well done. Too intense. Too much bickering between characters. I dunno. Not a horrible film, but I still haven't quite figured out why Cameron Crowe is heralded as such a great director. The only film I've ever seen of his that I thought was any good was Untitled. That's the bootleg version of Almost Famous. The theatrical version sucks. It doesn't make any sense, and they cut all of the best scenes out of it.

Yet another movie where people like Tom Cruise get way too much screen time and Alicia Witt gets way too little.

I quite enjoyed it, decent enough. Was a typical Hollywood style lyncher. I'll bet the original is better.

The moment you speak of was a great moment in the film. There was a lot about this film which I liked, but it just didn't quite get to that point where I thought it was great.

I like Cameron Crowe's writing better than his direction. He made one of my favorite movies EVER - Say Anything. All that said, I still haven't seen Vanilla Sky. I can't stand The Cruise.

I remember wanting to see this film when it came out because in the trailer it mentioned Courtney Love.

However, I didnt. from the sounds of it that was a good choice

That movie really sucked, and not because of Tom Cruise (he's a terrible actor but for some reason I like him).

Why, Denis? If he is a terrible actor what do you like about him? I am curious. He is just so cloying somehow.

I dunno, there are a lot of musicians who can't play, and yet you don't dislike them... uh, that doesn't make sense. I wonder why I'm defending Cruise. But we always see the movies he's in (mostly on insistance of my wife... same thing happens with Brad Pitt) and none of them really sucked (except Vanilla Sky). Hey, I even liked MI2 and The Last Samurai...

BTW, what does "cloying" means? Pardon my French.

Cloying is defined as: to surfeit (disgust caused by excess) usually of something originally pleasing

AND, It's a synonim to SATIATE which is defined as -
1: the quality or state of being fed or gratified to or beyond capacity : SURFEIT, FULLNESS
2: the revulsion or disgust caused by overindulgence or excess

I thought it was pretty bad, just an extended shampoo advert, an excuse for Tom Cruise to look confused.

It was a good idea, it could have been excuted better but Cruise ruined it, like he does most films.

I have the soundtrack but that, by extension, also brings back bad memories.

Shame, I love Solsbury Hill.

I definitely like Brad Pitt a lot more than Tom Cruise. Brad Pitt has proven his chops as an actor on many occasions. He steals the show in True Romance even though he's probably on screen for a total of 5 minutes in the film. I think Seven is great, even though overall I think Morgan Freeman and Kevin Spacey are the best parts of the movie. But the dynamic between Freeman and Pitt is excellent. And of course there's Fight Club. I remember him being pretty good in Thelma and Louise even though it's been a long time since I saw that movie. And 12 Monkeys was another movie where Pitt was good. And he's been quite different in each of the roles I've mentioned. Tom Cruise is always Tom Cruise. Though I guess he's different in Magnolia. I want to see that. PT Anderson, while not at the top of my list of filmmakers, is always worth watching the work of.

Brad Pitt was great in 12 monkeys and Fight Club. I hope he gets more roles like those. Pretty much right up there with Jack Nicholson.

I enjoyed Vanilla Sky. I bought it for 8 bucks.

I'm not a Tom Cruise fan, but he's been in some great movies. He does seem to break out that same confused smirk in every movie though. That head tilt a little to the side and that half smile.

Yop Yop, I seen it, obviously (or maybe inconspiciously, like you care)

Ask Floop, but I watched it all the way through

( Floop knows, not because we are close friends or anything, he's too good for me j/k, because he vaguely remembers an old thread on this forum, probably 2 years ago this thread 1st surfaced, I mean V.Sky came out before this website's inception, in which people rambled on about the original flick, the 2 directors the acting, my pms etc...),

which is saying something, at leaest it held my attention.

the part at the end, when Tom is on the rooftop and he has to make that choice of whether or not go back or live in weirdworld-

the song that's playing during that scene, I LOVE that song,

it's so perfect for the movie and it just gives me passionate goosebumps. I don't think that it is on the soundtrack, and I also think the song is by ColdPlay, a band I hesitate to name-drop, due to their semi-unwarranted mainstream popularity...

I need to lay off the drugs

We missed you TarTar, and Ramona was talking about oral sex FYI hehehhehah
heh
hahaa

Love. Bang. Crash.
