A very tough decision I have to admit, but I am going to go with The Shawshank Redemption. It is one of those movies I just can't not watch, I own it on DVD, yet if it comes on the tele, I just have to watch it.

C'mon, you can't deny Footloose. The influence Kevin Bacon has had on the movie industry has sent it on an irreversible course.

I agree with The Shawshank Redemption. I'm going to head over to the Mansfield Reformatory (which is where it was filmed) in about a month for a tour. I've been there before but it's just so cool. It's kinda creepy, too, though.

the shawshank redemption is a bunch of trite palp. it's entertaining and well made but far, far from the level of a movies like full metal jacket, jackie brown, lawrence of arabia, etc.
it's like comparing a ponderosa strip steak to a really good porterhouse. just not the same. |

I agree with most Kubrick films, but those are hard to watch over and over again.

I haven't seen Lawrence Of Arabia so I can't really comment on that, but I thought Jackie Brown and Full Metal Jacket were just OK - as this is entirely based on personal opinion, I'll say that Shawshank is better than either of those.
I think the best film ever made is The Godfather, but my favourite is the Blues Brothers.

Very tough indeed. I'd say The Indian Runner. Yes. Probably.
The Shawshank Redemption is great too.

I like goofy comedies-Kingpin, Big Lebowski, Zoolander, So I Married An Axe Murderer, Dill Scallion, Dead Pet, etc.
For dramas I loved Mystic River but Shawshank is amazing too. |

I guess Bladerunner is my favourite. Of recent times, the films that have made the biggest impact on me are Donnie Darko and The Pianist. It's a Wonderful Life is fantastic too. |

Of the many movies I've watched recently, Funny Games had the biggest impact on me. It showed me that you CAN make a film work on a disturbing level while letting the audience know they are watching a movie by breaking from realism at times. A very weird, playful, brutal, violent, disturbing, humorous film.

Oh yeah, definitely an honourable mention for the Big Lebowski. When I do the whole 'High Fidelity' Top 5 thing with films, I can only ever come up with three definites: Blues Brothers, Godfather, Big Lebowski.

It's always hard to pick an all time favorite anything. Cause there are a lot to have as favorites.
But, some of them are:
1. LOTR - Return of the King 2. Fight Club 3. X Files - Fight The Future 4. The Order 5. Most things Star Wars 6. The Color Purple 7. Happy Gilmore 8. Orgazmo 9. Escape From Alcatraz 10. Blue
And, it may not go down as an all time favorite, but I really REALLY liked Chronicles of Riddick.

Mulholland Drive. I finally understood this film when I watched it for the fourth time and after the last frame I felt a shudder of awe through my body. I addmit it it's hard to imagine it if you can't work it out but if you do I guarantee this is the most astounding and touching film in scope and message.
To make up the top three: Farewell My Concubine, Raging Bull. |

I already said Taxi Driver, but if we're going with multiple films I want to add the Godfather, the Big Lebowski, Fight Club and Run Ronnie Run. That's all I can think of right now and all of these minus Godfather and Taxi Driver are the films I will watch endlessly with my friends, I guess Donnie Darko falls into that group too, as well as Reservior Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Taxi Driver will continue to be my favorite though, I reckon, whenever I start to watch it I always sit down thinking "Lets watch this, I don't remember why I liked it so much..." then about twenty minutes in I'm completely immersed. And for recent movies I enjoyed Mulholland Drive although everyone I watched it with said it was complete shit, and I really liked Lost in Translation.

Sorry to post again so quickly but I must also mention the movie "Blank Generation", it's a movie starring Richard Hell and it features some live footage of the Voidoids live at CBGBs but on the own the movie is pretty damn well done and features the best love scene I've ever scene, and that's within the first ten minutes or so.

American Beauty, Blade Runner, and most recently Road to Perdition. (Two of those being Sam Mendes/Thomas Newman director/musical score combo; go figure.)

Just one? Dial M for Murder.
Some of you mentioned cult films. You should check out "A Boy and his Dog". 1975. Starring Don Johnson of Miami Vice/Nash Bridges fame.
