Great flick, a personal fave. It's getting a new director's cut and will be re-released later this year with a lot of extra stuff and a new sound mix, etc. I'm looking forward to it.

As much as I love Donnie Darko, it is a bit difficult to beat the blistering, visceral experience that is Boondock Saints. Wllem Dafoe is particularly incredible in that film. There's a sequel coming out this year.

Donnie Darko and the Boondock Saints are way too different for me to try say which is better. I love Donnie Darko's mystery, eerieness (is that a word?), and Frank the bunny. I love the Boondock Saints' awesome storyline, action, and acting. Both great movies. And I'm looking forward to the Saint's sequel as well.

Donnie Darko sucks.

Actually it's a really cool movie and I like it a lot, but that guy who made it was only 25 years old at the time SO FUCK HIM.</jealousy>

I do think this Director's Cut is a mistake though. Maybe he didn't get everything he wanted in it, but having listened to him talk about this on DVD commentary, I think the movie turned out better for it. Sometimes these things work out that way. If anyone hasn't gotten the current DVD yet, grab it before he messes with that, too.

It's $10 over here. And I think that the new version will be even better. He said that he always wanted it to be a sci-fi epic but he was pressured to reduce it to two hours in length. An additional 30 minutes of never before seen stuff is what he promises. I guess it's opening in Seattle, WA first and then spreading around the country.

It seems like nothing is ever rated correctly. If its good it's either underrated (Pixies) or is still overrated (The Strokes). If it's bad its always overrated. While not anymore. There's a band called Comatoast who play hair band guitar rock out of a trailer somewhere in Canada. They suck really bad, but they're underrated because no one's ever heard of them.

I totally disagree that it is overrated.

I hadn't even heard of this movie until a few months ago. Some girl at my work mentioned it and I rented it later. I freaking loved it and then bought it.

I don't really understand what "overrated" means. Do you think it should have been PG-13?

(I kid, I kid)

I really like that song echo and the bunnymen's killing moon, really cool song, it was also in the movie gross point blank i think , and in girl next door, some sort of freaky pushing of the song i guess.

The story doesn't matter, it's the way it's told. It's about time travel, teen angst, teen love, ridiculous people and cool people. All beautifully written, cast, acted, directed, and scored. Don't let the fact that Patrick Swayze is in it scare you. He is perfect. Just see it.

A disturbed, dark-haired teenage boy with an older and younger sister and two parents is having trouble coping with the World in the late 1980s, somewhere in Virginia. The boy, Donnie Darko, is delusional. His parents send him to a psychologist who seems totally clueless. Donnie has 'alternate understanings' of reality that she cannot understand. Donnie sleepwalks (even during the day) and imagines a monsterous rabbit-man is directing him to do evil things, telling him that the World is about to end. Donnie starts up a relationship with a pretty new girl in town from a troubled family. They bond because they have both been through so much grief.

Donnie also tries to get closer to some of his open-minded teachers who are too restricted by the school principal to really open up to him. Donnie acts out and explores what the rabbit-man "wants" him to explore. Normal teenage angst and lots of weird chaos occurs. In the end, the rabbit was right...Donnie has had a weird chance to experience things he was never supposed to see because of time-travel and unexplained scientific phenomena.
