Did Paul McCartney ever get an answer to that question? Probably not, but it should pretty obvious, right? For safety reasons, there's automobiles driving up and down roads!!!!

He was asking it so passionately, too, he was genuinely curious about why people weren't doing it in the road. What a weirdo.

Let 'em riot. We're Sonic-fuckin'-Death Monkey.

I really like the White Album these days. Yer Blues fucking rocks and describes my life so perfectly. Long, Long, Long is beautiful and I play it regularly on my guitar...Happiness Is A Warm Gun is also a guitar favorite. Julia is quite possibly one of my favorite Beatles songs ever (so beautiful).

I guess I just wasn't made for these times.

This was my favourite beatles album about 15 years ago when i first got it - back when vinyl had been superceded by cassette but there was no cds yet. I distinctly remember the first cassestte was my fave and in the last five or so years when ive got back into them again - and i can nearly cram the whole album on cd, i still think the first half is better. Weird how some things never really change... While My Guitar Gently Weeps is my fave.

Here's something that appeared today over at one of the conservative sites I frequent. Begin excerpt:

MORE RE SOVIET MUSIC [Cliff May] national review online corner 041123

Jonah’s post reminds me of when I was an exchange student in the Soviet Union. I particularly recall playing for my Russian room-mates the Beatles’ “Back in the USSR.”

The song puzzled them. “You mean he’s saying he’s glad he’s not back in the U.S.S.R.?” they asked me.

“No, on the contrary,” I replied. “He’s happy to be back in the U.S.S.R.”

“Oh, I see. Very good. And uh … why he is so happy to be back in the U.S.S.R.?”

“Well, you know, as he says: ‘Russian girls really knock me out. They leave the West behind. And Ukraine girls make me sing and shout. And Georgia’s always on my mind.’ ”

”Oh. This song makes fun of Soviet Union, yes?”

“No, not really. It makes fun of Americans, of the Beach Boys, of California culture, of …”

At this point it was really time to have another tumbler of warm vodka (the dorm didn’t have ice) and sour pickles and change the subject.

And change the record too – to something like, “Hello Children! New People of the Fatherland!”

That was one of my favorites.

in '96, FB did host a radio-show in austria where he play his all-time fav's. savoy truffle was his no.1-hit those days.

Cool cherry cream and a nice apple tart
I feel your taste all the time we're apart
Coconut fudge--really blows down those blues
But you'll have to have them all pulled out
After the Savoy truffle.

You might not feel it now
But when the pain cuts through
You're going to know and how
The sweat is going to fill your head
When it becomes too much
You're going to shout aloud

You know that what you eat you are,
But what is sweet now, turns so sour--
We all know Obla-Di-Bla-Da
But can you show me, where you are?..

when you think about it, that song has a very Yellow Album feel to it. even though it's on the White Album, it's the most Yellow of them all (with the horns and everything)

The Beatles annoy me. Not because I don't like them, actually I love their records and Abbey Road is in my top 5 ever (White Album coming quite close), but because their albums are too bloody expensive. Why the hell don't they lower the price when it's sales time? I have none of their records because of this. I only have them on cassette and my cassette player doesn't work anymore so I can't listen to them. It sucks.

You could just kidnap the remaining Beatles and have them play the songs for you. It wouldn't be the same without John and George, though, would it?

The White Album is great, but I've been listening to Revolver much more recently when feeling Beatley. I'm going to have to listen to the former now though, so that I can fit in.

Yeah, I tried that, but it sounded weird. Imagine bass-and-drums-only covers of Beatles songs. It just didn't work.

i never said i don't like Obla Di Obla Da, i was just quoting from the endlessly brilliant Savoy Truffle..

you guys are on your own

i actually always thought he was saying "we all know the deep, black dark / but can you show me where you are?" which doesn't make sense either but i thought sounded kind of cool. and could have been a double entendre for dark chocolate and/or his soul.

that makes it more fun i think

Obla Di Obla Da is one the greatest songs ever, and the version on the Anthologies is awesome. I've loved that song since I was a child (maybe that's why I like it so much!). Here's to cuteness!
