Paul can scream his ass off if he wants it seems, he also does that scream at the beginning of "Revolution".

Paul is always thought of as the 'pop' guy, and Lennon as the 'avant-garde' one, but in fact Lennon wrote some very sensitive, ballad-stuff, while McCartney did some of the heavier music-for instance, he came up with the wild, noisy, orchestral part of 'A Day In The Life', and wrote 'Helter Skelter'. The White Album is the Beatles record I probably listen to most often. It's a little patchy in places, but what do you expect from a 30-song opus?

I love While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Sometimes I get stuck there, just that song over and over. Rest of the album is realy good too of course.

Thats very true...a lopt of people slate it because of the weaker tracks on there, but if you look at the big picture, then really the bad tracks are only that bad because they are put next to some superb ones.

I've never been too keen on 'Piggies'. I don't know if they were having a laugh with it (ala La La Love You) or what, but I often skip that. Mind you, it's the only one I do (9 doesn't count, that's not a song, it's a space station).

Agreed. I tend to be a fan of long albums. As long as MOST of the songs are good, I can forgive the occasional dud.

I'll have to agree that the white album is excellent, although I don't have much to say about it that hasn't been said already. So many great songs, and so many different styles.

As for "Revolution 9," well, I'll listen to it occasionally. It's kind of interesting, but it's not really music. (By the way, if "Revolution" is called "Revolution 1," does that mean there are seven other "Revolution" songs? Or was that a red herring?)

I think Frank said in an online chat that the white album is his favorite album of all time.

In the LP days, I primarily listened to the first album. I rarely listened to side 4 and missed out on some good songs.

i'm pretty sure my favorite beatles album is "rubber soul", but it's hard to say. "a hard day's night" is kicking my ass lately- a personal fave. i think i'll listen to it right now!

I like everything on the White Album. To me, each note is part of the overall structure, and w/o each piece, it would not be the White Album that I know and love, so... I love it all! That said, I think my favorite song is Happiness is a Warm Gun.

i was listening to this today on headphones (which i usually don't do). as i'm sure you know, you hear so much more with headphones.

on Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except For Me And My Monkey (one of my faves), you can totally hear everyone in the background screaming and having so much fun. it's like bleeding through onto the main vocal mike.

that's one of the things i like so much about this album. they seem like they're having so much fun making it.

I am a big fan of headphone albums; pieces of music that really require your full attention, music that you must complete put yourself inside of to fully grasp. If the Beatles ever put out a headphone album, the White Album is definitely it.

I was just trying to learn Dear Prudence on my new acoustic yesterday. That descending bass line is tricky! I didn't think Lennon was that good a guitar player, but I guess he had time to work it out in India. Julia & Blackbird are pretty good unplugged workouts, too.

Does the middle of Happiness remind anyone else of Alice in Chains?

I just hammered out Blackbird last week on my classical, along with Rocky Raccoon. Incidentally, just as I began typing this post, my brother began playing a jazz piano version of Blackbird on the computer next to me. Creepy.

current favorite song: Savoy Truffle

Creme tangerine de Montélimar
A ginger sling with a pineapple heart
A coffee dessert--yes you know it's good news
But you'll have to have them all pulled out
After the Savoy truffle.

Cool cherry cream and a nice apple tart
I feel your taste all the time we're apart
Coconut fudge--really blows down those blues
But you'll have to have them all pulled out
After the Savoy truffle.

You might not feel it now
But when the pain cuts through
You're going to know and how
The sweat is going to fill your head
When it becomes too much
You're going to shout aloud

You know that what you eat you are,
But what is sweet now, turns so sour--
We all know Obla-Di-Bla-Da
But can you show me, where you are?..

Creme tangerine de Montélimar
A ginger sling with a pineapple heart
A coffee dessert--yes you know its good news
But you'll have to have them all pulled out
After the Savoy truffle.

I recently saw the Rolling Stones' "Rock and Roll Circus". Included is The Dirty Mac (Lennon guitar/vox, Mitch Mitchell drums, Clapton lead guitar, Keith Richards bass) playing "Yer Blues". Good stuff! Then they let Yoko onstage to sing a song. Bad stuff!

The White Album is my favorite album of all time. "Blackbird" and "Long Long Long" are both in my top 10 songs of all time. My current fav is "The Continuing Story of Bungalo Bill" :

Hey, Bungalow Bill
What did you kill?
Bungalow Bill (repeat)

He went out tiger hunting with his elephant and gun
In case of accident's he always took his mom
He's the all-American bullet-headed saxon mother's son
All the children sing

Hey, Bungalow Bill
What did you kill?
Bungalow Bill (repeat)

Deep in the jungle where the mighty tiger lies
Bill and his elephants were taken by surprise
So Captain Marvel zapped him right between the eyes
All the children sing

Hey, Bungalow Bill
What did you kill?
Bungalow Bill (repeat)

The children asked him if to kill was not a sin
Not when he looked so fierce, his mommy butted in
If looks could kill, it would have been us instead of him
All the children sing

Hey, Bungalow Bill
What did you kill?
Bungalo Bill (repeat)

You'll have to have them all pulled out, floop. I LOVE that song, and that entire album. I'm so ready for bed after Goodnight, what a closer.

I always figured he was talking about teeth. I thought you were just playing dumb in your other post. I could be wrong (come on, me wrong?), but it seems he saying after all these sweets, you'll have to have your teeth pulled out.
