Funny, catchy little song. Reminds me of the Amps.

It's quirky, disctinctive and good fun. Another feelgood Pixies song.

I don't know how I feel about new Pixies material in general. Should it fit with their back catalog, or break new ground like their old songs did at the time? Well I don't know, but I think this sounds totally unlike any other contemporary bands, but it's still Pixies.

I'm chuffed to bits that they've given us a new song, and I hope there are many more to come. I can't get enough of it.

It's most interesting to me that the band are obviously comfortable
in recording this material at all!

It would have been easier just to keep their ambitions low and trade on the nostalgia aspects.... like we were expecting, no?

To me it makes complete sense, The Pixies were one of those rare bands whose sound was a genuine synthesis of the individuals involved. It almost wouldn't matter what they played, it'd still sound like them. And much as I love all subsequent things FB, it has made me realise just how much I loved/love that unique sound the Pixies had.

...and The rate 'our Fronk' knocks out tunes it'd be odd to imagine there won't be more, and soon.

Shrek 2 has songs from the Eels and Tom Waits.. and you don't think the Pixies would fit in? I think it's possible they were asked.. for sure.. to contribute something but I'm not saying they were asked.

It doesn't necessarily have to be the Pixies that were tapped for or submitted a song for SHREK 2. It could have just been Kim Deal/The Breeders. And then after that was rejected she ended up bringing the song to the Pixies.

At least that was the scenario that I assumed after reading that post (which may not even be true, of course).

the question is when was it recorded?

SHREK 2 just came out a month ago. they could have been in post-production up till just a few weeks before the release. so it's completely possible that songs for the movie were still trickling in in feb-mar-apr.

it seems like too random a rumor to make up, which makes me think it's possible.

I got an AAC file from iTunes. Not sure on the bitrate, but it sounds great on my iRod.

Song files from the iTunes music store are not mp3. They are mp4. Actually... they are AAC (advanced audio codec, apple audio coding or something like that) but it is the the type of audio compression used with mpeg4. The files are not playable on anything other than iTunes or an iPod.
The bitrate is 128kbps. But because it's a nice new codec that is really good people say that it is virtually indestinguishable (or ible) from uncompressed CD audio. so that's good. it is DEFINITELY A WHOLE LOT BETTER than a 128kbps mp3. I can tell you that much.

Is it me or is Bam Thwock not the most Pixies sounding word(s) imaginable, the perfect onomatopoeic summation of the bands sound and ethos.

Of course it may be late, and I may be quite drunk

Just heard it. Good catchy song, a bit like the Amp's Tipp City in one part. Like Joey's big guitar bends. Sounds fresh. Thumbs up from Helmut!

This is not the worst song I have ever heard but it's hardly great. There must be more of you who don't really care for it. I mean COME ON! are you all really going to kiss the pixies' collective ass even if they hand you absolute shit? I fear for the future of the united state of the pixies.

I tend to agree that this song is rather weak, and as they mentioned in the press release, it was something they recorded to break the ice and goof around when they first rejoined. They've done "dumb" cartoon songs before like Tony's Theme and Theme from NARC. I'm glad they released it, and I had fun listening to it, but to me it sounds like "Pixies Learning How to use pro-tools" Very amatuerish. That organ solo is SO out of place that it's funny. People seem confused about the title but "bam" and "thwok" are commonly used in comic books as sound effect sounds. The Batman TV show is a good example. All this being said. I still had fun listening to this!

I like the song more and more each day. It's happy. I like happy.

It's also reflective of the Pixies' current state. They all get along now and they all like each other now.

Frank's backing vocals are about the only thing saving this song. I have some issues with Kim; she seems very immature. And by the way Kim, what's with resorting to stealing a poor little kid's intellectual property? For shame.

i hope you're kidding about the kim comment. (do you like that alliteration?)

it's not stealing. it's "inspired by".. i think it's a clever song. and actually, i think Franks backing vocals are almost unnecessary.

yeah, I was kidding, but not about her being immature and . . . frankly, annoying. Frank's vocals are not a huge part and don't really save the song but I think he add some depth. If I had heard this song without ever knowing the Pixies I would have thought it was a cute attempt by some first time college group. It's catchy but it isn't Pixies quality.
