Wow, Joey liking Rory G and recommending a Cluster album. First time in ages I'm glad I clicked on a non-BF interview.

It seems to me that FBF is often playing the same character in interviews since Pixies reformed. Doing those parody loud voices and his “Oh! Well, you know… Whatever… I don’t know…” He doesn’t really deliver clear answers and seems mostly to keep genuine introspection at bay. Maybe that’s the same “problem” some of us spotted in his newest songs in terms of lyrics. Maybe he’s merely more relaxed and less neurotic. And that’s fine. Am I demanding? Well… You know… Probably, (loud laughers).

I think basically he's always been like that, interviews just aren't his strong suit. Honestly I think that's part of the reason he ended up being portrayed as the villain of the Pixies, he was a difficult interview and the music press started to interpret that as him being an asshole.

Never change Dave:

"When I think of Indie Cindy, Head Carrier, Beneath The Eyrie and Doggerel, this goes before them and right after Trompe Le Monde in terms of how much I like the album. "

Is the album made up of entirely new songs?
More than half of the songs that ended up on the album we’d had floating around, but we did them on the spot. There was a little residential area where we could rehearse in the morning and then run over to the studio nearby to try to get them down.

Wonder what else is floating around!

You recently toured Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde in full. What was it like revisiting those records?
It was wonderful. I hadn’t realised how many people liked Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde.

Clearly not a regular visitor to this forum!

I must ask about the departure of Paz Lenchantin. She seemed to be so well established in the group. Yet, from the start of this year she’s no longer part of Pixies. What can you say about what’s happened?

It was just unfortunate. I can’t explain it all. Paz would be the one to ask. It would be for her to explain. But we’re a very happy family, and we’re doing very well now.

Did things end okay between you all?

Yes. (Pauses momentarily). All I can say is that we tried to rectify everything

Interesting, first comments I've seen to a Paz question.

Yeah, what the hell does "rectify" mean in this context?

Rectify could mean to make amends (ie, mend the relationship with Paz in a way that preserves her as the bassist) or rectify could mean to correct the situation by firing Paz. I will admit that when Paz was fired I assumed Charles had not taken reasonable steps to mend things, but "we tried to rectify" is consistent with a possibility where Paz was being intransigent. I struggled to give Charles the benefit of the doubt at the time. Who knows. Maybe they were both being difficult. I'm glad the band is doing well now. They nailed the Bossa & Trompe tour.

Joey and Dave on Paz' departure. Very mysterious answers. Why did Paz leave?

Santiago “My answer to that is, you’d have to ask her. Somedays she’ll know, but I don’t want to say.”

It was her choice? Was it a surprise?

Santiago: “It kinda was, I think.”

Lovering: “It was surprising but she can explain it better.”

Interesting. I think the guys are just trying to avoid the awkward situation by putting it on Paz to answer it all.... If/when we get an official reason/explanation, it won't be coming from the band. It'll come from Paz. She'll most likely put up some instagram story/Facebook reel saying too much and then she'll delete it soon after.

I would've expected them to sign some papers that forbide any information coming out.

Btw, nice interview from Belgium, apparently Frank wears a wig after festival shows when watching other bands

A short, by-the-numbers interview piece with Charles (the interviewer is most interested in having him reflect on Doolittle and Surfer Rosa):

Apparently, according to this article, Zombies is the first album to feature Lovering on bass. Wow. Dave is quite the magician indeed!

Ah, they've since changed it. When it was first posted, it said it was the first album to feature Lovering on bass. It now correctly says Emma Richardson.

Interesting Charles interview

https://inews.co.uk/culture/music/pixies-interview-kim-deal-3339928

Looks like Motoroller is indeed partly about Kim leaving in 2013 with the 'i tried to call you on the telephone' lyric being an actual occurrence.

Interesting words about Paz too.

Fascinating interview with Frank about going with the country thing for new Pixies and how music management people had told him not to do that when they first reformed:

No wonder those first 2.0 records sound as they do....that being said, still some gems on those records, but no wonder this record feels tighter.
