Floop,
The look on Joey's face in that picture makes me think he's petrified everyone will still recognize TW through his meticulously crafted DL costume.

i think, though, that pj harvey is probably the most likely possibility given that she played some of the bass parts on some of the new toons... |

You really think PJ Harvey is going to become a touring hired gun for the Pixies...? |

Not PJ. I checked her website. She's on tour in Australia in January. |

Some non Kim named bassist ladies that would also rock I think are Gail Greenwood (Belly),Leslie Langston (Throwing Muses),and Rachel Haden (That Dog/The Honeyman, the Pretenders & Ramones tribute feat.Joey Santiago).

I take it back. She toured Austrailia in January of 2012. Nothing on there about any 2013 dates. You understand that this can only mean one thing... |

Rivum,
PJ is not on the new EP.
That confusion is understandable, as I noticed that at least one of the music mags who have written about the details surrounding the sessions were very sloppy in their grammar.
When they wrote that Ding played bass on some of the tracks, they mentioned the fact that he has in the past played with PJ Harvey, but did so in a way that incorrectly implied she played on the Pixies EP as well.
I figured when I read those pieces that their grammatical choices would cause problems, and it seems they have...

That's Right! I recall it was during their early years so she probably played with David too when he also was in The Martinis.

If they can't find another Kim, Lisa Umbarger is always available.
or they could pull Lyn-z away from Mindless Self Indulgence.

J/K. Everyone seems to want a girl in the spot because of some of the songs. I say who cares. Just get someone who can play bass and if you need someone to sing ooohs and aaaahs and say 'This is a song about a super hero named Tony...' put someone on the side with a mic.

thanks for clearing that up, Peter.
in that case, you're likely right - PJ is doubtful as a candidate. i like pixie_punk's suggestion of gail greenwood - she rocks! |

if i'm not mistaken, it was BFB himself who said that a female vocalist is strongly desirable. |

I agree they do need that female voice. That was one of the main reasons I fell in love with them all those years ago. What I'm saying is they have already changed the classic line up of the original 4 members. There is no turning back even if original Kim comes back the change has already been made. The 'damage' has already been done. But if she never comes back I say get a fantastic session bass player and a Deal sounding background singer who both stand to the side and the main focus would be on the three remaining members. That's what it may come to.

They really don't need a great bass player. Remember, the original ad even specified "no chops". Finding the right voice is the important thing, but I don't think it necessarily has to be a Kim Deal soundalike. |

I don't think they will have trouble filling the spot.

If you look on twitter there seems to be quite a few south americans/people speaking spanish convinced the bassist will be Paz Lenchantin. Joey put up a picture an hour or so ago with a tiny glimpse of someone playing bass and someone commented it was her. It's been deleted since. Could turn out to just be pure rumour but that's that anyway. |

The rumor was that Thompson was going to replace Kim with Paz during the 2004 reunion tour and that was probably one of the things that motivated Kim to return. |

But Paz was so cute while doing it (Kim hardly ever wore short-shorts and heels)

ugh, all of this drama seems much better suited for a reality show on cable television than for a band. i saw the picture joey posted, and if it is indeed a current photo, i can't imagine kim deal wearing a striped skirt/dress these days. i think this may have all been planned from the start... to get a different bass player for each of the different legs of the tour - and then at the end of it all, see which bassist gelled/had the most connection and offer them the permanent spot.

Supposedly it was Paz Lenchantin. I know Joey had some connection to her when he was doing his Martinis thing before the reunion. There were rumors back in 2004 that Kim wasn't going to be called back at all, and Paz would be Kim's replacement. |

Well you couldn't make out who it was at all, but somebody said that it was her before it got deleted. |

Was just listening to some Entrance Band - really cool stuff. Pretty encouraging, but it certainly seems like they got their own thing going and would probably want to keep it up. If she's the one, I don't know if I'd expect her to stick around past the tour, so don't get too attached! lol
