I have said it before and I still stand by it, but I think Pod is the best post-Pixies release from any member of the band. utterly brilliant record.

Actually, Pod sounds heavily influenced by Pixies. I think that was the stuff she tried to contribute to the Pixies but Charles had no intention of sharing. |

The Pod demos, which are floating around out there, are even better than the actual album.

Not exactly post-pixies since it was released in 1990

Like, perhaps, "Last Splash"? |

Sure, many might say Orange or TOTY or SMYT or Bluefinger are better than Pod They may be more creative, more playful, encompass more styles... But none is as "noble" as Pod Pod is almost equal to Surfer Rosa for me. Not as brilliant as Doolittle, but better than Last Splash

but anyways, I do think that the record is superb. It is recorded very well - not a fan of many of albini's recordings but Pod is one I do like (along with Surfer Rosa). My only issue is it's a little quiet. some great songs - the sequencing works very well. as sdon mentions, it isn't varied like so many of frank's records are, but what it does do is present a collection of very solid songs very well. I like Tanya Donelly's contribution - think the record would be even better if there was more Tanya.
And as for comparisons to Last Splash - it's miles better. Sure, last splash was poppier and had some great singles, but as forn a complete record, Pod beats it hands down.
imo it fits after surfer rosa and doolittle and before anything else.
