Wait, so Kim S has played with the band for a few months, has never contributed to a studio track (that we know of) and some of you would miss/boycott a show because she isn't there? Huh? Come on folks, that is pretty reactionary. Maybe the Muffs and Pixies had some touring conflicts that couldn't/wouldn't be fixed? Isn't the new Muffs album coming out early 2014?
The fellas at this point don't seem likely to make rash decisions, especially seeing how calculated they have been with this band renewal so far....guess we'll have to see some interviews/twitter posts or whatever to piece this together. |

Good energy. Horrendous voice, seriously, anything is an upgrade. No way she can ever pull off Into The White. |

EDF?
They have to play new material.
If the managers have any kind of say, zero them.
FB's instincts are ok in my book. |

I liked KS's energy and her playing but her voice wasn't great. I'm not so much mourning HER loss as I am worried that this will somehow derail the North American tour or hold up future new material. Maybe they had her into the studio during one of the breaks in the tour and it didn't go so well? I would love KD back but only if she's completely on board with writing and playing new material and dusting off Bossanova and Trompe le Monde era tracks. I don't just want to hear Come On Pilgrim, Surfer Rosa and Doolittle on tour again. Otherwise, I say new bass player and it MUST be a female with vocal abilities. I don't think VC would ever do it because of the strain on their marriage and the fan backlash would be horrible ie "BF fired both Kims to bring his wife in!!!"

I think the scenarios are either Ding Archer/Jeremy Dubs/PJ Harvey maybe/anyone else joins as another touring player or Kim Deal has somehow been talked into rejoining. I don't think what has happened will derail anything because it's obviously pre-planned. I think ideal scenario for me would be Kim Deal with them releasing new material that was recorded with her (if it exists) but really the priority's new material. |

I don't think the band manager can make that kind of decision. they're not Menudo. the manager works for them
I'm sure all 3 pixies gave their blessing, for whatever reason
in my humble opinion people thinking Kim D will still come back is a pipe dream, but then this is Pixies. anything could happen I suppose

True, they have the final say. Seems strange at the moment though. |

Strange news, the thing about their manager stopping her from doing interviews in the NME article is odd, though. I can't see Deal coming back any time soon, though stranger things have happened (like Pixies reforming in the first place!). I certainly don't see her recording with them again, although it's funny that so much was made in the press about 'first new Pixies material for 20 years' etc., what about the Deal-penned 'Bam Thwok', and the other unreleased material those sessions produced? |

If this all-powerful management angle is correct, I think the Pixies management has probably stayed in contact with KD and never stopped wooing her to rejoin the band, doing whatever it took to make it happen. And now it's likely happened. It's the only scenario that makes any sense because why else replace a perfectly competent KD fill-in with a different competent KD fill-in? This management is fond of big surprises that create a lot of buzz so I'm still guessing we don't get any confirmation from the band until EP2 with all 4 original Pixies is available for sale. If Kim D rejoins though she's really got to give a 100% total commitment to new material. They've run the oldies act into the ground. |

maybe she just hated another toe so much that she had to leave the band for its release. now that they're getting into the 'greens and blues' kim deal is back baby. |

I remember an interview a little while back in which joey was intent on setting the record straight and stated that she is absolutely not in the band and is only a touring bassist.
It seems to oppose what frank has been saying about asking her to sing/scream on future recordings.
Anyone have a link to the interviews? That must be rooted in some of the "friction". I also recall joey saying that the thing he missed most not having kim d. in the band was her voice.

I wonder if they'll still play What Goes Boom if KD rejoins... Would be funny to hear KD singing along to a song about herself.

I admire your optimism but I reckon if Kim Deal is really coming back they could have handled the departure of Kim S a lot better. There hasn't even been a statement on Pixies Music. As far as I could see she did a good job so if it was a baton transition there would be a more coordinated goodbye. I reckon they've fallen out for whatever reason, she's the hired help so she's out and they need a new bass player pronto. But I would be happy to be proved wrong. |

Really could be as simple as just choosing to go with a new touring bassist for the US tour, but it just seems counterintuitive to have someone come in and learn the songs or whatever all over again. |

For what it's worth, the twitter quote (in German) means: “I don't believe in art. I believe in artists.” - Marcel Duchamp (or at least, that's the full quote I found on Google... I don't know this stuff by heart or anything)
And a longer version of the preceding tweet/ quote about language reads: “As soon as we start putting our thoughts into words and sentences everything gets distorted, language is just no damn good—I use it because I have to, but I don’t put any trust in it. We never understand each other.” - Marcel Duchamp
But really, if you think about it, maybe those quotes and tweets have absolutely nothing to do with the Pixies or the current bass player situation. Who the fuck knows. So we can speculate till the cows come home but maybe these are just some interesting things Marcel Duchamp said.

In a recent interview, Joey spoke about how the band are generally poor communicators with each other. And I believe him. Because they're poor communicators with their audience, too.
Not that I need them to be good communicators. I'm here for the music. I don't need the band to be my buddies.
As for the news, I LOVE Kim Shattuck, so this is a bit disheartening, but I'll reserve judgement until the story develops further. I agree with those who say that this smells like the return of Kim Deal, which is completely unexpected and I won't believe it until I see it, but it's the only way this almost makes sense.
If it's anything other than the return of Kim Deal, the band will end up looking bad to a lot of people. |

no!!! seriously, what the hell? in my opinion this can only signal one thing, the return of kim deal. if this turns out to be the case, i have to admit, i'm more disappointed in her return than in her departure. the band have been on fire these past few months - the live shows so much more energetic and inspired than anything the past few years. so bummed to hear this news. kim shattuck rocked. all the best to her.
