Been into Langhorne Slim a lot lately. His new album, Be Set Free, is great.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

I agree, Cohen. Just got that a few weeks ago and really like it. Have you heard the album, When the Sun's Gone Down?
I also got The xx. too...

About a month ago a friend of mine played some Muse for me which I liked; don't recall the song title off hand. I'm also looking forward to Them Crooked Vultures.
And right now I've mainly been immersed in studio and live Pearl Jam! |

Them Crooked Vultures have me really excited too. I've been digging a lot of Morphine/Treat Her Right lately.

Jon Spencer Blues Explsion and a new interest in early Iggy Pop
JSBE-Dang I had a couple of JBSE CDs stolen just after I bought them, replaced them about 3 years ago but had never opened them (one of the replacements CDs has read problems on 5 of the songs). I bought a huge lot from eBay too. I just started listening and I am giddy. It's not something that I could listen to for a long periods of time, but it is...something else!
1970 is no where you wanted to be (Iggy pauses, 'How do I win this crowd over?') The one Iggy Pop CD I have is a best of. The start of that is AAA++, all the way just before China Girl, then it gets better and then really bad and then not quite as bad. |

I like how I never even heard of Them Crooked Vultures till a couple days ago. I listened to a snippet on youtube and decided to wait for the album proper. Queens of the Stone Age are a band that really grew on me during the past six years. I enjoy Josh Homme's singing (particularly on Wanna Make it wit chu) and really love his guitar playing. It's melodic, angular, unique and weird. He's written some great rock songs as well as some interesting noisier songs. Him, Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones...! Wow. I have to check it out. I'm trying not to have high expectations though but I still think it'll be pretty good.
It's kind of the inverse of what I felt with Chickenfoot. I'm a huge Joe Satriani fan and while I liked the idea of him in a band I had my doubts about Sammy Hagar, whose voice and lyrics (99% anyway) have never appealed to me. I'm glad I caught them live once. Back in May I spontaneously decided to see them live but the venue was sold out so I hung around the box office hoping for seats to be released. Who do I spot coming down the street? That's right fellow Frank Black Forum members, none other than Steve Vai. I asked him if he could get me into the show. He gave me a quick dismissal: "No," and he and his girlfriend went to the window, got their tix and went inside.
Tickets were eventually released and I got in, happy for the experience (the show had a good vibe, people excited by unreleased music) even though it overall met my low expectations.
So, there you go. Chickenfoot and Vultures. Oh yes, Steve Vai was shorter in real life than he's looked in videos and photos. |

Yeah, that one's great, too. My favorite, though, is his middle album, the self-titled one. I really love the song "Diamonds and Gold." I saw him live (opening for Josh Ritter) a few months ago, and was blown away by that song.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Part Chimp is difficult to find and expensive in Canada. Cheap if you're in the UK. |

I will have to check out the self titled. Yes, LS is great live. I saw him a few years ago and it was just a lot of dancing and getting swept up round and round. |

New album from Digital Leather is good, called Warm Brother. I particularly like the tracks Bugs on Glue, Modern Castles and Gold Hearts.
Also, just copped a load of the new album from Wave Machines called Wave If You're Really There. Stand out tracks as I Go I Go I Go and Keep The Lights On and The Line.

magnetic fields' "distortion" is getting lots of play. this is all i've heard by them, but over the past year it's become quite a favorite. i'm supposing i can't go wrong by this guy.

Not yet.
I will probably get it from amazon.co.uk, if I can find a few more rarities. I'm also looking on eBay, which I just checked and it is a desert.
Something is wrong with eBay's search, how annoying. |

Last time I checked that said out-of-stock. |

^^Yes I recently got into them too, they are amazingly good.
Also these guys, I just got into them after hearing their new album Machinery
De Staat - Sweatshop
This is the current video single from the album, one of the best songs I've ever heard, and the video is bouncy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54CkdT5QznQ&feature=fvst
Both Deerhoof and De Staat played at Doornroosje when I lived in Holland, and had I known then how good they were at the time I would have gone and seen them. Pity.
Broadband internet has saved my life. |
