Texan shoegazers True Widow are back with a new album!
Can't get enough of Track 5- Trollstigen! I think I have finally discovered the best grunge song in the entire universe.
http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/a...rue-Widow.html
Slow scrunching bass guitars, subtle changes in tempo and key. Clever stuff, both minimal and complex at the same time. Shoegazy vocals courtesy of woman.
Sick as fuck. |

Loving 'Automatic For The People' at the minute. I think it's probably my favourite R.E.M album. I have the impression from little bits that I've read that more 'hardcore' R.E.M fans would choose an earlier album maybe. How true is this, hardcore R.E.M fans?

Probably, Fables of the Reconstruction is my favorite, but Automatic is solid. |

I was always a fairly big R.E.M fan, most people who were growing up when 'Automatic for the people' and 'Out of Time' came out were fans. HUGE selling albums!! 'Automatic......' has some great songs, 'Nightswimming' and 'Man on the Moon' to name but 2. This was definitely their most commercially successful time. However, 'Green' and 'Document' are still perceived as their greatest by many hardcore fans. 2 fine albums.quote: Originally posted by pixiestu

Green? I never listen to that album for fear of hearing Orange Crush. I guess I liked the IRS years. |

Not that I listen to them much now, but my favourite REM is Murmur. I also like Monster as well after hating it before. |

Sleeper had a couple of good 90s indie bop tracks out there, as did Elastica, Echobelly and .. that other one
I wonder if the Pixies hadn't reformed in 2003 there would be as many good bands out there keeping the fire going that they put out in 1993.

You already posted a Prinzhorn track a while ago and I liked it quite a lot. Can't remember if it was the same song. This one's very good also. Yet it really bugs me that apparently today bands only matter if they mimic every other band from the 80s/90s. Prinzhorn sound good but they're clearly looking backwards. Same for Savages; I really want to buy the album cause the songs are great but maybe I shouhd buy all the old Siouxsie records instead. Speedy Ortiz didn't invent anything either. Then the Pitchfork guy is whining because BF doesn't write songs like in grad school anymore. Well yeah man, maybe that's because he quit grad school 25 fucking years ago! So I don't know. I think I'm just out of touch. I love the 80s sound from 80s bands. 80s sounds from 20-yr old guys is just a parody.

Well, talk about long-play albums and miraculous comebacks... After my dear MBV and my dear Pixies, I recently found out that my very dear Medicine is back in business too! A brand new album - YES! an album - released quite recently.
http://www.allmusic.com/album/to-the-happy-few-mw0002553632
I love Medicine. I find their two first albums unbelievably good, though the second one sounds a teeny bit dated now.
My verdict: awesome.
Like any good album, it didn't quite do it for me on the first listen. Actually, I almost didn't like it.
But the magic is there. It haunted me, so I tried it again... And again. And again. And again. And again.
It grew on my like a monster. It's busy, there is an awful lot going on, perhaps even songs within the songs, but it all falls into place beautifully in the proper time.
I've been listening to it even more than "m b v" if that is even possible.
Not for all tastes, of course.
