I think the Twins (and their horrible stadium) are history. The Yankees are back to their old form this year and are likely to plow the Twins under.
Obviously, anything can happen, though. Here's a great article from The Washington Post about the unpredictability of the playoffs: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content//article/2009/10/06/AR2009100603717.html?hpid=topnews
What I find most interesting is that wild-card teams have vastly outperformed 100-game winners in the playoffs this decade.
Go Rox.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

I was going to say something nice about the dome, but it didn't come out that way.
HHH was an attraction for many years, until people decided they liked nature and being outside.
It was pretty stale, sparse and lacked intimacy. The building even blew you out the door at exit, I can see how you might grow to dislike it.
It seems like a no-brainer, if you have a cold climate, put a roof on it. But there are only so many nice days in Minneapolis and you don't want to spend them inside.
It wasn't as yawn inducing as the cavernous Target Centre (a building with the best location and parking ever, drive off the interstate into the parkade). That was such a bad idea it was replaced before they changed the welcome mats.
They go through a lot of arenas and stadiums in the Twin Cities.

The 4 baseball writers for the New York Times put out their predictions today, and 3/4 said Yankees over Cardinals/Phillies, with only one writer picking an NL team, the Cardinals.
Personally, i'm rooting small-market all the way - Rockies/Twins, with Rockies in 7.

New York Times still has sports writers? (I read somewhere that they weren't replacing sports writers as they retire).
I'm not nearly as confident about the Red Sox as I was in 2007. I think they could easily win it all if they get the pitching. But, Lester seems like the only "sure thing" right now. Beckett has been struggling and Matsuzaka has been pitching well lately but it's only been a few games. I think they'll beat the Angels. Victor Martinez can carry them.
My order of preference: Red Sox Phillies (still love the Pedro) Cardinals Dodgers (still love the Manny) Twins Rockies |

I'm REALLY looking forward to Pedro tonight. If he turns in one of his classic games (like Lee did last night, damn that guy was good), I will be a happy, happy man.
I love my Pedro. |

A year ago, I thought Cliff Lee (Cliffly) going 22-3 and winning the Cy Young was a fluke. Now that I've actually seen him pitch a few times, I see I was wrong. He's fantastic. Maybe the game's best pitcher at the moment. Loved his nonchalant catch on the mound last night, too.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Just got me tickets for three games for the Twins. I am very much looking forward to their brand new stadium!
Seeing baseball indoors just didn't cut it.
Any one else out there have their tickets yet for any team this season?

Brian probably has tickets to see the Metropolitans but he doesn't like to talk about it.
Baseball indoors is lame. Enjoy you new stadium, I hope it's better than the Yankees'. That place is a concrete food court. |

No tickets yet to Coors Field, but I'll surely catch a handful of games there this year. Maybe sit high up on the first base side, with a great view of the Rocky Mountains beyond the scoreboard in left.
Congrats on getting a real stadium in Minnesota. I always disliked that crazy Metrodome for baseball, with the white ceiling, the trash bags for outfield walls, and the folded-up sections of seats beyond right field. Still, it was always a great home field advantage there. I remember that from the World Series games 20 years ago.
Gonna catch some Drillers games, Darwin?

Thanks guys, it should be lots of fun.
I hope you get to catch a lot of games coastline. That does sound like a very spectacular view over at Coors field.
You are right about the Metrodome. Yes, it was a good home-field advantage, but man that place really is a dump.
So far we got tickets to see the White Sox, Brewers and the Devil Rays.
We just ran into a friend and she loves baseball so we might even go to another game too.
It's just nice having a outdoor field. It gets me excited again.
You're right though danjersey, that hopefully it won't be a pimped out food court.

that is a very lovely pic...i was at a twins game about 10 years ago against the jays and we were being very obnoxious cheering for T.O....minnesotans are very polite but after the jays pulled ahead a few people started throwing "dome dogs" at us...it was all in jest...no one got hurt. i would really like to check out a game at the new stadium...i heard they may nickname the new hot dogs "dump dogs" cause the new stadium is by a dump? is that true daisy?

That's funny Fu about that name, haven't heard of dump dogs. Sorry you guys got dump dogs thown at you. That's pretty rude.
Anyway, it's not near a garbage dump but it's right by a solid waste processing facility. I have driven by there. I am pretty sure it doesn't smell (which seems kind of strange to me), but I won't know for sure until go there.
Is there a chance you guys might make it down for a game in the new stadium, Fu? |

i love driving down to minni and doing some shopping at albertville with the family. not sure about this summer. but if frank ever does a show there it's nice to go for a few days and check out a ball game or vikings game if they are playing.....i keep my radio dile on KFAN out of minni and love listening to the common man. he was kidding the other day saying they need a new name for the "dome dogs" since they're moving out of the dome..he came up with "dump dogs" since the new stadium is by the waste processing facility.

No tickets yet. I'll see at least a few games at Citi this year, plus the wife and i are planning on a trip to Georgia to do a number of things, including seeing a Braves game and a Savannah Sand Gnats game (Mets low-A rookie ball team), and a trip to see the Mets/Phillies at the Bank in Philly with Phillie fan friends of ours. And since my brother lives in Providence, i hope to get to a Red Sox game, or at least another Pawtucket Red Sox game.
