The King has granted an audience with anyone who happens to be online at 6 PM EST. The Q&A session will be held here. Anyone is welcome to ask questions, I only ask that you keep it to questions that don't apply specifically and only to you (e.g.: remember taking your picture with me/signing my CD/when we had that brief eye contact in the middle of Bullet?).
This thread will be unlocked shortly before 6 EST (3 PM PST/Forum time). See you then!
NOTE: To keep things orderly, we have a queue in Dave Noisy's inbox. To ask a question to FB, you email him (no need for the question) and you are placed in line. Dave will post when your turn is up.
Click here to ask Frank Black a question.
VERY IMPORTANT Please refersh no more than once per minute so that we don't cut off the server. If people do this, FB should also have an easier time answering. Thank you!

Frank, First off, thanks very much for all the years of hard work and heartfelt music. They both mean a great deal to me.
My question: Many longtime Pixies fans absolutely adore "Bossanova" and "Trompe Le Monde," and see them as at least equals to the earlier records. I realize that on their release, some critics slighted them in favor of "Doolittle," but that means very little to us.
However, the setlist for this Reunion Tour so obviously avoids most of that later material, and no one seems to know exactly why that is. Most folks either assume A) that the band was already fracturing by then and that your bandmates felt left out of the creative process (thus causing lingering distaste for those tunes), B) that without a third guitarist or keyboardist, they would be too hard to replicate on stage, or C) that you, yourself, in hindsight simply don't think too much of those albums.
In recent interviews you've pretty much said "Hey, this Reunion Tour is geared toward the people who know us from "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle," and we're not gonna come out and play B-sides or obscure cuts for the diehard fans."
Should we take this to mean that this particular tour is being structured this way as more of an introduction to the group's catalog, and that possible future outings might include deeper cuts and oddballs, or rather that we should consider such tunes permanently off-limits for any live Pixies dates?
If you could definitively explain the reason for their absence, and the seeming lack of interest in the feelings of the hard-core fanbase, that would be most appreciated. From a listener's standpoint, it just seems like a real waste to sidestep so many wonderful and idiosyncratic songs, when there's more than enough room for a handful of them in each set.
See you Wednesday in Atlanta.

In a recent interview you said that you had gotten into classical music..what are some of your favorite pieces and/or who are your favorite composers? I can imagine you doing a classical song in the style of Eleanor Rigby by the Beatles, actually.
You are a hero in my eyes and your art is appreciated by many. Your music inspired me to start playing guitar/write my own music and it's truly been a life-saver. Also - I was at the show in Columbus and it was spectacular! Anyways, thankyou so much for reading and (hopefully) answering!
Your fan, Nathan Gepper
PS: We miss Bossanova and Trompe le Monde! PPS: Honeycomb is brilliant so far.

Why is Bone Machine usually the opening song on this tour?

Hey Frank!
Have you ever been to the Yorkshire Dales in England? It is a very beautiful place to walk. I thought I might have seen you (maybe I was deluding myself).

Frank, let me first say that I am a huge fan of your music, as you can probably tell just by the fact that I have more than 1000 posts on your message board. Anyways, I have a suggestion for an excellent way to promote your solo career at Pixies shows. remember how you usually play a few Pixies numbers at your solo shows? Well, why not play a couple of solo numbers at the Pixies shows? I know what your thinking--this is a reunion tour, it's not just uber-fans, they only want to hear the hits, etc.--but nobody is going to start throwing tomatoes if you cut into Western Star or Hermaphroditos in the middle of the set. To the contrary, they are going to be like, what is this great new song and where can I hear it on a record, then they'll go out and buy Dog in the Sand or whatever. And what better place to promote Honeycomb than at a Pixies concert with 5000 people in attendence; you're bound to win at least some people over and the worst that could possibly happen is you would increase record sales. So why not give it a shot? For all of us that love the Pixies, but at the same time can't help but miss the Catholics.
Also, I'll be seeing you guys two, possibly three times next week (Atlanta and Birmingham). I know it's a long shot, but is there any chance you could play my favorite Pixies song, Motorway to Rosswell? I know you probably don't remember how to play it, but I'll be sitting right up in the middle of the balcony and I could make gigantic cue cards with lyrics and chords on them. PLEASE!
P.S. I'm really looking forward to Honeycomb and Frank Black Francis!

Hello Charles, I'm Andrés I'm from Chile, you know, Southamerica. Well, first of all sorry about my english, I'm trying to do my best. Well thanks a lot for playing with the Pixies again you're making a lot of people happy all over the world. I have a lot of questions to make but I don't have to be so selfish, I'll try to speak for all the Latinamerican fans, is there any chance that the Pixes can come to Latinamerica to play some shows, you know, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, you have a lot of fans down here, I mean thousands, and we're all waiting for you, it would be like a dream coming true. We hope you can come here to play some gigs, last year Kim and her band played some shows here and they had a lot of fun, by the way could you say hi to Kim, maybe she remembers me. Thanks a lot and have fun! Andrés, Chile |

Welcome back, Frank. We missed you. I have but two simple questions: can we expect a big tour when Honeycomb comes out? And what are your thoughts about it being leaked and available for download so early? I'll see you tomorrow night in Boca, and congrats on the little bambino!

Hey Charles - thanks for all the music! Do you have any solo (ie. non-Pixies) touring plans for the next year or so, and if so, will the Catholics be your backing band?

What scenario do you often find yourself in when writing a song? Do you purposefully create a space to work, or do you write as you go? Do your songs show up in your dreams?
Thank you! |

Any chance I'm ever going to hear anything from Pistolero? Your bus broke down before the show in San Juan Capistrano that night and I've never heard any of this album on subsequent tours. |

Dig.
Frank- Head On was the only tune for encore in Columbus.
How do you decide how many tunes to do for an encore? We were certainly wanting more...naturally.
thanks...a fan since 88.

We'll look at that. I just hope he actually shows up or we'll look quite the fools. :)
Also, the 5 question rule: No more than 5 unanswered questions at a time. If FB doesn't answer one but answers the next, we will count the skipped as answered. Excess will be deleted as fast as we can to keep it under control.

Hi all, i'm going to try another variation of this...
If you want to post a question, please send me an email.
Click on the 'Email Poster' icon at the top of my message here. This will establish a proper 'line up'. What i'll do is 'call out' people's names when there is space for new questions.
When you see me 'call out' your name, then you can post a new question. I hope this will be the best method to allow everyone to ask FB a q, and not flood the area. Thanks!

Hey Frank,
I guess you're gone now, but I have to post my question and comment. Did you have any particular musician(s) in your life when you were younger that you were as hung up with as we are with you?
I hope to see you at a show sometime, hell, who knows, maybe even get a pic with you.
I just would like you to know that your music will one day be the old, un-cool and hopelessly outdated music that my daughter will tell her friends that her Dad is obsessed with here in about 15 or 16 years. (Puh-leaze read that carefully; it was not meant as an insult at all! You are going to have a kid; you will understand!)
What could be better than a swan dive into the asphalt?

Also, a reminder to please not refresh more than once/min. It makes it easier for FB to post and is would really suck if the server crashed and this was cut short.
