to be perfectly honest, i think that it could be called "feces pie" and it wouldn't matter in the least because it's one of the fucking best records i have heard in a long time.

and i actually think "marvin the album" is one of the best album titles ever.

i don't think frank's titles are ever that great - ditto for his album artwork. but the music makes up for all ofthat and more. i like the art, the title is ok, and i'm sure it'll grow on me

i don't understand erebus' take on the title at all.. he's saying show me YOUR tears.. not, "i'm shedding tears".. i guess that's part of the beauty of art that it can be interpreted in so many ways, but i'm really not on the same alan alda, weak man wavelength on this

Well, I'm not sure what songs he has/hasn't been playing live, though I know he's done "horrible day" and "manitoba" - "Horrible Day" is my absolute favorite. "Nadine", "Goodbye Lorraine," and the last track stand out to me in particular. There's this great ending chorus of "I have seen the face of God, and I was not afraid; I have seen the face of God, and I have dearly paid," that's beautiful.

Honestly, we play the album at least twice a day every day at the office. We're all really in love with it.

Then you must be a sensitive girly-man, floop. Go eat some quiche and cry in it! ;-)

Hey, maybe it's a challenge, i.e. I showed you mine, now you show me yours. Tears, that is. (Or tits, whatever.)

I'd say go easy on Erebus, he doesn't like the title and has tried his best to justify it, you can't get angry at someone for having an opinion.

The title threw me off a bit at first too, but then I picture Frank talking in a radio interview saying "the new album Show Me Your Teaaarz" in kind of a self-deprecating voice, and all is okay.

Great album titles, look to The Fall and Guided by Voices I'd say.

Perverted by Language, there's a good one.
Under the Bushes, Under the Stars, pretty without being surgary.

haha those guided by voices titles are funny

UNIVERSAL TRUTHS AND CYCLES
EARTHQUAKE GLUE
DO THE COLLAPSE
SAME PLACE THE FLY GOT SMASHED
BEE THOUSAND
SUNFISH HOLY BREAKFAST
ALIEN LANES

I love them
But Frankly, FB always had great titles (pixies included)
and this is maybe a slightly unusual title for him
but what the heck
he can do something straightfoward
why not?
all the other titles have been arty and original lines
maybe it's time (just to fresh up a bit) to call it something
more pop.
I guess IF (and that's a big if) title has something to do with
moving units, a title like 'show me your tears' will do better
than cult of ray.
BTW if your titles are always special they don't seem so special anymore. This title is different and that's why it's special.

So I'm not complaining

I like it!

Album?

Did someone say there was a new album due soon? Let me read this over again and maybe I'll figure out a title from all your cryptic ramblings. ;)

I'm so out of the floop loop.

I'm well looking forward to this album.... I was trying to check out the track listing for Pixies at the BBC (bonus tracks) when I came across this article on NME website about the new album. Not too sure if someone has already posted it, and it isn't really anything too new, but here it is:

BLACK SHOWS A NEW ALBUM!

FRANK BLACK AND THE CATHOLICSs are set to release their new album 'SHOW ME YOUR TEARS' on September 8.

The former Pixies frontman has collaborated with ex-bandmate Joey Santiago and composer, Van Dyke Parks on the follow-up to his dual released albums of 2002,'Black Letter Days' and 'Devil's Workshop'.

Black said it is not one of the most optimistic of the nine albums he has recorded.

He said: "Thirteen big, salty tears. Like thirteen little black dogs just born, still in their sacs, about to wake up, ready to howl at the world. here isn't a happy song in this bunch,"

The tracklisting for the album is as follows:

'Manitoba'
'This Old Heartache'
'Massif Centrale'
'Goodbye Lorraine'
'My Favorite Kiss'
'Horrible Day'
'New House Of The Pope'
'The Snake' 'Nadine' 'Coastline'
'When Will Happiness Find Me Again?'
'Everything Is New'
'Jaina Blues'

Strange, considering there are only 11 songs mentionned!

War....... Its Fantastic

I was wondering that as well, but the same happened with DW and BLD.... the release date as announced in April but wasn't released until the end of August. Luckily I had a mate coming to China at that time so I managed to get hold of a copy a day before it was actually released, fuck knows what I'm gonna do this year.

Does Amazon deliver to China????

it's all got to do with stuff like deadlines, etc. the album is done, the artwork is done, yes. we put the cd in production last week which means we won't get promos till probably next week. then we have to send promos out to press people - places like rolling stone, spin, etc., need at least a couple of months lead time. then there's the marketing aspect: there needs to be time to generate press quotes, to hopefully get some tour dates worked out, marketing co-ops, etc etc. and about one or two weeks before the album comes out, we'll want to have it on radio, so then we have to send out all the promos to all the radio people around, say, the end of august.

all of that junk takes a long time, trust me. and from a fan perspective it might not seem that important, but it's how records get sold and how people like fb get to make a living doing what they love, and we want him to get all the attention he deserves.

so there you have it! i know it's a long wait but trust me its worth it.

Don't know if this has been mentioned before, but anyone else have a sneaking suspicion that "Everything is New" might be a new-fangled version of "Everything is Wrong," the rarity played on John Peel's show a few years back?

The actual song was called "Everyone Is Wrong". It would be really cool, it's a great tune (even though from what I know, Frank didn't write it. Isn't it written by Lyle Workman? I can't remember).

Has it finally happened? Is our man Frank listening to Weezer? Check out the last =w= album's cover art for "The Lion and the Witch EP" at the link below and compare it to the cover for "Show Me Your Tears."

http://www.weezer.net/extras/desktops/lionwitch800.jpg

Maybe someone with better code skills can post the two pictures in the same thread for comparison of the kitties.

Just thought I'd point out something I found interesting.

Wow, I have "Lion and the Witch" and that didn't occur to me. The resemblence is pretty crazy. Is this kitty a popular piece of Japanese art or something? Seems weird that frank black and weezer would both have an album cover with a kitty holding its left paw up in the air.

Yes. Thank you for posting that. That jibes with my sense of the man. I admit to being quite curious as to just what the title means, hoping that it's somehow consistent with the sentiment embodied in the lyric you quote. Don't think I'll ever come close to figuring the guy out, thank goodness.
