I'm sorry, I just don't understand how you can dislike the aforementioned Pixies songs and still consider yourself a Pixies fan. Silver is HORRIBLE?! Into the White is BAD?! Veloria, Allison, La La Love You, and the list goes on and on for "The Worst Pixies Song." HOW?! I really just don't understand. These are all Fantastic songs.

I might understand a normal person who upon hearing these songs for the first time, might think them a little weird, but YOU, the people posting on this message board....I just expect a certain amount of reverence towards these songs. I guess I just think that each of you are Pixies fans in the same respect that I am, which you obviously aren't.
I'll admit, some of their songs I give an A++, while others only get the shunned A+(I'm harsh, I know.) I don't mean to be forceful or pushy about my opinion, it's just that I couldn't sit idly by and read these slanderous comments about my dear Pixies. So, just know, I respect your opinions of thinking that some of them aren't good songs, I just don't understand how one might reach this conclusion about any given Pixies song.

Sorry about the ramble; I had to say something to make myself feel better.

You are all wrong! The worst pixies song beyond a doubt is BUILD HIGH.

Fuck awful. I ALWAYS have to skip it and its nowt to do with the singing or the music; just the fuck awful repetition and the fact that it was obviously a Friday afternoon track when they'd spent the morning getting monstered...

I don't know, it looks to me like you're kind of missing the point with the pixies, you have to look at this a bit mopre holistically. As far as I'm concerned even the "worst" pixies song totally outclasses some of the better stuff by most other bands, and hey with the pixies, even if you don't like the track you can always be fairly certain that even if the track is "repetitive" it's only gonna be repeating for about 2 minutes.

So to summarize all pixies songs are great compared to most other stuff, the ones that aren't that great only seem less good because you're comparing them with the output of probably the finest band ever.

So there.

Man you people are slagging good Pixies tunes - Havalina, Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons, Vamos, Silver - what's up with that? Stormy Weather is exempt from rating coz it's too small (but it's good, better than the wibble most bands put on albums as their small tunes). Wild Honey Pie is fairly unlistenable, but wasn't it written by Lennon/McCartney? And it does rock if you're in the mood for it. I have to say, if you have to pick a ropey Pixies tune you'd have to say that some of the tunes on the B sides were less great than others - In Heaven is one I don't particularly want to hear right now. I also don't really like Gigantic much - too lumpen, too plodding, doesn't have the energy and urgency of other Pixies tunes, tho I really like Kim's voice.

I think Build High is great, you all are on crack.

Also, i agree with 8balljoe that even the so-called "worst" of the Pixies eclipses 90% of shit out there. Still doesn't mean that there can't be a least favorite song of the Pixies for every listener though. Just because they are the best, doesn't mean they are "perfect."

How can any one hate any of those songs? Man, Stormy Weather is one of my favs. So are all the rest. Into the White? Christ, seriously, I am flabbergasted.

I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten.

no such thing, end of story, no such thing as a bad pixies song. they are all well thought-out and well written, some just appeal to some people in ways that others don't connect with

I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten.

i dont like the overproduced versions of river euphrates and down to the well. probably cos i'm an early pixies fan. cecilia ann is usually skipped over, its not bad but i like rock music better.and i know a lot of pixies fans hold all over the world close to their heart but it bores me to tears. and dancing the manta ray is a little non-happining for me.i've got to stick up for sliver, space(he's so-spacious), into the white, blown away, stormy weather, vamos, and tony's theme tho, 'ride my bike like a pony, i wanna get high high!' or whatever he ses.thats rock n roooll!oh, and i didnt like build high for a good while, but now i think its great!and its strange, i really like gigantic, but it aint is great as everyone makes it out to be, to me.i really like no.13 baby too, but i always skip it when i'm litenin to doolittle. weird huh?

if you say anything mean about kim, i'll kick ya in the shins!

Alright, I've read as much as I can take...

I think that what we all have to remember is that "the worst" Pixies (or for that matter Frank Black) song is still far better than most bands' best song. Arachuig/8ballJoe have it right.

Silver - just think of it as a teaser for Gouge Away. Makes Gouge Away that much more awesome when it hits.

Bailey's Walk Not horrible... the lyrics are somewhat enjoyable.

Into The White No explanation needed, quite awesome. The bass line rocks.

Cecilia Ann I can't even believe this song gets skipped by anyone! An amazing instrumental.
I think, Brackish Girl, you just need a little more listening time any you will realize the brilliance of this, not to mention all the other great songs that you find dull like All Over The World. Everyone knows that this stuff takes a few listens to appreciate.

Stormy Weather Another great song - the song itself feels like stormy weather, especially at/after the 55 second mark.

Levitate Me I don't know that anyone listed this as the worst, but for awhile I sure didn't like it. It took me TWO YEARS to like it, but now I love it too, so sometimes you just have to be in the right frame of mind. Plus, skipping that track all the time really didn't help me grow to appreciate it. I only wish there were more songs that I didn't like so that I could discover them to.

Above all, the words "Skip" and "Pixies" should never be put together.

someone doesnt like levitate me??best drum line ever! i've hammered bassanova into my brain for months, and i hear a lot of fans like it the best, but its a little...dreamy for me. i'll try harder, honest!i always sing stormy weather in irish for some reason,'ta se am, ta se am, woah woah, ta se am do aimsir stuairmiul'(sorry for terrible spelling and grammar).everyone really shood check out the pod demo version of silver tho, really gets you into the lyrics.and of course the violin and plucky guitars are lovely.

Yeah like "Driving All Night" on Last Splash - such a great atmospheric folky tune - weren't Kim and Kelly in a folk band before they were in the Breeders? Or did the Breeders start off as a folk band? Maybe I'm getting old, but you can't beat fiddles, pedal steel and banjos.

I got a cool record by the Amps, think it's called "Pacer". It's basically a Breeders album - I think coz Kelley was unavailable at that time Kim just recorded it under that name. Really fuzzy and lo fi but excellent tunes and her voice is amazing as always.

i just call pacer a breeders album. too lazy.
i'm guessing by 'driving all night' you mean 'driving on 9'. sorry to correct but my mother heard me playin that once and asked me why i was listenin to country. she heard it a few times again, and she kept singin it as 'driving all night', which was annoyin!
did anyone hear their version of hank williams' 'i cant help it'? they used to do old hank songs and other country and folk didnt they? there's a pic of kim as a teen holdin a chicken in noaloha... i have a deep fear of chickens.'hey kim nice hair!'

Is it "Driving On 9"? This is like when I thought the first song on the Stone Roses album was called "I Wanna Be A Dog".

I've got a single by the Kelley Deal 2000 too - can't remember what it's called, but did they ever do an album?

Cheers I had a look at her website, noticed she's been knitting loads of handbags! She sells them through the site, you can check them out at http://www.kelleydeal.net/handbags1.htm.
Do any other Pixies related musicians have hobbies which involve making slightly ropey clothes or accessories?
