I have been commissioned by Omnibus Press, a reputable London-based publisher of musician biographies, to write one about The Pixies and Frank Black. I would be enormously appreciative of any help anyone reading this might be able to offer.

You must be the chap I was chatting with by email earlier this month? Of course, I'm still delighted to help in any way I can. I should be updating the bios of the other band members after Christmas and our Pixies tribute CD, which may or may not help you.
Also, if you're looking for quotes, we have a growing collection of them. Ramona is the one to talk to, or check out this link:
http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=3120
For answers to some frequently asked questions, which you invariably know the answers to already (but one never knows), check out Mereubu's FAQ list:
http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=961
Frank himself has posted here on numerous occasions. Check out members frnck blck and frankusblackus, both of which are alter-egos for him.
And of course the forum is an infinite source of people/wisdom, so post away if you have any specific questions.
Good luck!

I have been commissioned by Olympia Press, a reputable Paris-based publisher of porn-star biographies, to write one about The Dwarfs and Snow-white. I would be enormously appreciative of any help anyone reading this might be able to offer.

There is nothing "fun" about derailing my attempt to get other people to do some of the heavy lifting for me. I don't want to have to raise my voice here. Why don't you ogle photos of Sadie (www.londoning.com/sadie), whom I produced, or something while we grown-ups have our grown-up conversation?
All right. Groan-ups.

Does that mean we can be your ghost writers, then? :) Did you really write for Creem? Where can we read some of your work online?

Yes, I did indeed write for Creem. And yes, by all means you can be my ghostwriters, with the proviso that I get to pass all your hard work off as my own and then keep all the money! Yippee! Lots of my work is anthologised at www.rocksbackpages.com, and there's a deluxe interview with me at www.rockcritics.com/Mendelssohn.html. I'd love to keep chatting, but Top of the Pops is about to come on here in the UK, and I'm breathless to see the new Victoria Beckham video. Hubba hubba!

wwwilson,
Have you seen the Catholics and Frank perform lately? I am assuming that if they want a book written pronto they must be hyped about the prospect of cashing in on the reunion? Just a guess. Best of luck. Remember he can be a moody guy.

Do you actually like the Pixies and Frank Black? I ask because your production of "Sadie Sings" seems very very different.

No dirty old man, I. Lusted after Sadie (who's 22, by the way) in my heart, but was otherwise the picture of discretion and restraint.
She is indeed a whole different kettle of fish. I think sometimes very glossy pop can be just as subversive as abrasive punk, maybe even more. Lulls people into a false sense of security, innit?
Did indeed see FB&TC only a few weeks ago at Shepherds Bush Empire. Realised that Maynard James Keenan learned everything he knows from FB. Was impressed by Mr. Rich Gilbert's fancy footwork. Know too well that FB (and his management) can be mercurial. How to overcome that, do you suppose?
Anyone out there with any good anecdotes?

Mr Wilson,
You called me a "scalawag" (what the hell does it mean?).
My honour has been wounded by a miserable, autocongratulating paedophile who felt inferior after seeing my wonderful peace of prose shining on him.
I see only one solution : a Duel au pistolet. On this very forum. By Napoleon, I will hold my revenge.

Enough of this tomfoolery, my friends. Can we please get back to the important business of supplying me with material for my forthcoming book, which you want to be interesting and compelling just as much as I?
Sheesh. |

i hate to sound like a dick, but here goes: i don't know how comfortable i feel about someone writing the Pixies / Frank Biography and needing to scour the fan page for information.
shouldn't you naturally be drawn to the material (Pixies/Frank Black) that you'd already know quite a bit about the subject? and/or already have done ample research? isn't that your job as a writer?
visiting the discussion forum here seems like an excellent, additional source of information.. but shouldn't you already have your ducks in a row, to some degree? you're just blindly saying "supply me with useful information.".. do you have any specific questions perhaps?
also, are you a fan? why did you chose to do these books?
yes, i'm defensive..
[editing to sound less harsh]:
yeah, honestly, best of luck.. and the books will probably benefit from a slightly more objective viewpoint, as opposed to them being written by an obsessed freak fan. i, like you, hope they turn out great.
maybe you could set up a question answer forum here, and use this as a Frank Black think tank, which it is. between everyone here, you could probably find out just about anything you want. |
