I want to download some scary songs. And don't go and say "Creed" or "Nickleback" either because I already know their stuff is unbearably horrible. I want some good, scary shit. (Yes, this is a ripoff of the thread at the pixies website. This forum kicks their forum's ass! HA! But this was a good topic...)

Some that I find disturbing are:

The Cure - Pornography, The Figurehead

MK Ultra - That Strange Flower the Sun (Here's the link to download it for free... http://johnvanderslice.com/mp3sjv/MK.Ultra_Strange.Flower.mp3 )

I've heard that Joy Division's early stuff is pretty freaky, so I'm going to get "Closer" tonight.

Killed Janet by the Moistboyz. It might be spelled Killd Janet. And you might have better luck finding it as a Ween song.

The ending of I Want You (She's So Heavy) is pretty scary. So scary that Les Claypool said he was first listening to the record while laying in bed one night when he was a little kid and the song just kept going and going and it freaked him out and he jumped up and turned it off.

One night last year I got freaked out when I was listening to Thelonious Monk and would hear talking even though I knew I was home alone. So I'd stop the music and listen and hear nothing. Put the music back on, and soon enough, I'd hear something again. Stop the music - nothing. It freaked me out. Later, my roommate, who was the Monk fan, said that Monk hums while he plays.

Early Sonic Youth songs, especially off Confusion is Sex.
The title track is pretty disturbing, Kim Gordon at her screechy best.

Foetus. Foetus. Foetus. Jim Thirlwell under several names - Scraping Foetus Off the Wheel, Foetus, Inc, Steroid Maximus, etc. I highly recommend Quilombo (SM), and Gash under the Foetus moniker.

Skinny Puppy is also right up there (Mind: the Perpetual Intercourse, VIVIsectVI, Cleanse Fold and Manipulate, and Too Dark Park are all classics)

Throbbing Gristle (Hamburger Lady is a favorite song)
Coil (Love's Secret Domain)
Swans

Alternating scary and disorienting:
Nurse With Wound
Muslimgauze

Edit: funny/scary - Mr. Bungle's first record by the same name.

Also, for a total freak-out, drink a bottle or two of Robitussin and throw on a Merzbow record. That'll make for a memorable evening.

Yeah, I haven't heard Confusion is Sex. I had the opportunity to buy it used once and my roommate warned me that it was going to be really weird. While I'm all about the weird, I was more into the idea of hearing some songs at the time, so I didn't buy it. I did get Bad Moon Rising later on. I like some of it, but don't listen to it too often. It's a little... murky, not production-wise but it just seems so grim. Society is a hole...

When I was about 5 years old, the "electric" part in the middle of Edgar Winter's
"Frankenstein" scared the doo-doo out of me. I think it was related to my fear of empty light sockets, like a lamp without a bulb. I would picture my tongue stuck in there frying me. Man, kids are weird.

I was going to say Joy Division when I saw the title of this thread. I would have said their first album though (Unknown Pleasures), especially something like Shadowplay or I Remember Nothing.

I agree with the Foetus for disturbing (great stuff, but like Butthole Surfers, can get you paranoid if already in the right frame of mind) and Coil, Nurse with Wound and such.
Some disturbing songs on Devo Hardcore Vol.s 1 and 2 as well. "Soo Bawls", for instance.

I am forgetting a lot. Honestly, the stuff that truly scares me is mainstream music. It's insidious and evil and soul-eating/mind-numbing and I don't understand it. I really freak out if I have to hear it... it scares the crap out of me, while stuff like Skinny Puppy or The Cure Pornography or the Residents or Zappa feels like home, makes me smile.

Pink Floyd - Vegetable Man

It's pretty freaky. The music sounds so mechanical...I swear I heard that song in my nightmares years before I ever heard it for the first time. It's one of the last songs Syd Barrett wrote and recorded with the Floyd if I remember correctly (Jugband Blues was the last I think). He wrote it about himself. Pretty sad and disturbing.

Oh jeez, how can I forget, Golden Palominos. Their album Dead Inside has plenty of freaky stuff, particularly the song Victim.

with a 20-year old mother singing about self-mutilation and the sort.
great stuff.

Pick up Wavy Gravy - it is a comp with some very disturbing tunes one there. One of them is a country-type song and he talks about killing people.....All of these tunes are quite old as well.

I used to be scared of Pink Floyd - 'The Trial' from the Wall....

There's a sort of evil carnival song by the pretenders that sounds like it's got hundreds of those horrible soft body porcelin faced anti christ dolls giggling over it and that's freaky.

I also never recommend playing doom whilst listening to Blood Chant by Gorkys Zygotic Mynci... nasty.. in the dark...

(well don't play without a change of underwear)

wow - Aphex Twin? I find it cheerful and lighthearted (seriously). Tre, don't listen to anything I mentioned unless you can afford the therapy bill.

Edit: that said, here are some others...

Yeah, pretty damn amazing film that. I got into Nick Cave because of that film. The Nick Cave scene sent me into a spin, just had to get more of his stuff afterwards.

Damn I wish I could see Cave perform in the same kinda setting.

There is a 'secret' track at the end of Resident Alien by Spacehog that used ot scare me a little, especially the first time I heard it 'cos it came out of nowhere. Not heard it in years though.
