Is that the video that was banned?
Wasn't banned (maybe it was for a little while, I'm not 100% sure on that), just censored in many places. Hypocritical bastards. Amazing what media/people can get away with as long as it has nothing to do with art. Yeah Cheney, woohoo FCC!!!!

Fuck em if they can't take a joke.

It's basically a lot of sepia-toned imagery based on Joel-Peter Witkin's photography, which is in turn based on a lot of Flemish/Dutch school and Renaissance/other era paintings. Some fetishistic images, some (for the mainstream at the time) "freakish" circumstances, bugs, dead things. Pretty tame actually. It was a beautiful video though.

Here's some of Witkin's art:
http://www.zonezero.com/exposiciones/fotografos/witkin/jpwdefault.html

I have a cut-out of one of his photographs (cadaver of a man without his head) in a scuplture on my site: www.discordis.com (the sculpture went through a beating, and is missing a bunch of parts, it should be revived soon though, hehe - no pun intended, but I'll go with it anyway ;))

Un Santo Oscuro seems a little Pixies-ish to me.

Yeah, but he's been doing this for far before the Pixies were around. They both have similar inspirations - Man Ray, Buñuel, Dadaists, Surealists, etc, who took their cues from the earlier periods/artists. How incestuous!

"deiche" by the sex gang children is the freakiest song i've ever listened to. "night shift" by siouxsie and the banshees and "incubus(blue suit)" by the tuxedo moon are two songs that kind of freak me out too. maybe even "i hate you" by the christian death and klaus nomi in general ("3 wishes" in particular).

Scratch Acid has some good disturbing songs. But Cannibal makes me laugh without fail: "Hey, stop eating my stUMache!"

I used to find TMBG's "Boat Of Car" to be kind of creepy, but I think I'm the only one. Probably mostly just because I heard it in a nightmare once. Besides, that's more of an "eerie" scary than a "monster party" scary.

His version of 'Hurt' gave me goosebumps. Especially the ending. The microphone kinda crackles a bit. Eeeeeee..

Nick covered 'Avalanche' on 'From Her To Eternity'

Not scary at all, but, um, Avalanche/Cabin Fever go friggin' great together.

Cash's version of "Hurt" isn't really scary, it's just really really really really really depressing. It's more depressing then Trent Reznor ever dreamed possible.

There's a band called Dimmu Borgir... and I bought a CD of theirs called Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia. The whole frikkin' thing is just flat out creepy. I'm gonna mail it to the guy that recommended it. I think mebbe it belongs with him instead of me. *SHUDDER*

I was gonna say subway song. Like turn it up loud. But kind of a gimmic.

Smiths made me think of Reel Around the Fountain, which would be Michael Jackson's favorite Morrissey number.

Johnny Horton - 'Some niggers never die', and 'I hate niggers'

Those songs do have quite a happy melody, but the lyrics make them kind of sickening

I'm bored with the valleys and bored by the peaks. So I bought a ticket to the Pixies
