Ah the pixies right in the middle of the leaving cert - nice one! i will certainly remember the week of my leaving in years to come
Hope the pixies set aint ruined by shithead rhcp fans booing and telling them to go away...plus i think the chances of a pixies encore will be very slim..

anyway, i got that "fantastic" thing outta the way. now i can talk about the gig.
they didnt play nimrods son! (im crushed) la la love you woulda been great too (and i was so sure they were gonna play it cos i got two of the disclive cds and they did it on both).
the hot house flowers depended too much on the audience to sing their songs which was a failure. and groove armada got a great reaction. i thought the thrills were perfect.
but the pixies were the stuff of dreams |

Pixies rocked dublin!!! i don't think the residents of Phoneix park - the deer and the animals in the zoo - will ever be the same again!! that gig was better than i could have hoped, absolutely fantasic. it was worth the wait. pity the timetable at these things is so strict so they couldn't play an encore or anything... but all in all... fantastic! |

They started with bone machine and then blasted thru the songs with very little talking except Kim joking after 1 or 2 songs "the screens are that big they can see us from Wicklow". Later on she joked "thanks ... or as they say in Ireland thanks". Key sang lead on the slow version of in heaven and then gigantic towards the end. Vamos was amazing Joey put the guitar sitting in the middle of the stage, and was doing kinda funny robot walk around it as it was . Then Dave tossed him the drumstick, he used it on the guitar and tossed it back. Amazing. They then revved up for the finish blasting out Tame and Debasser and in the last few songs. They played Veloria and Umass from the last 2 albums and didnt play La La Love U or Into the White. I was right up the front in pit 1 about 20 yards away from Kim on stage.
Overall the Pixies were class and the whole day was brill but that venue is shite, unless you are in one of the Pits.

No matter how hard I try, nothing can descirbe just how fucking awesome that truely was.
The venue, I agree, was terrible. We were at the front of the 3rd pit and we were in pain the whole time from being crushed by people trying o get to the front - and we were still so far away. i dont know who saw pixies fans but where i was, i didnt. some guy beside us seemed really into them and he was singing along, and a few people drifted past, but that was it. and from what i saw from the pits in front, it looked really calm.
In closing, wow. I need to sit down later and think of words to actually describe it. Also kinda wanted Into the White, and Tame wasnt the best to end on - but it was still perfection.
And not one of you mothers saw me and screamed at me. ;___; Anyone else meet anyone else from FB? |

Was great wasn't it! my favs were holiday song, crackity jones, something against you and in heaven from kim of course! I was in pit one right up in the second row - was so fucking close! Everyone up the front knew all the songs. I honestly didnt think we would get as many songs as we did due to it only being a supporting slot so i was happy even though there was no encore

I was in pit one second row. Fucking AMAZING. Did anyone catch any of what Kim said? How long did the set last? I know it was around 27 songs but it seemed so short! |

These guys were amazing. I only just got into them a year or two ago (thanks to phantomFM) but seeing this band play live was, as my friend put it, a religious experience!! I'll have a stab at the setlist but my memory is never too good for these things, so its in no particular order and not all the songs are there.
bone machine caribou Umass Isla De Encanta Wave of mutilation Broken face cactus No 13 baby Gouge away Holiday song monkey gone to heaven Vamos hey Here comes your man mr grieves crackity jones Gigantic Velouria In Heaven Where is my mind Debaser Tame
Thats 22 songs I count, and like i say in no particular order. Brilliant, amazing, sexual!

They were truly amazing but large venues with multiple bands should be banned. I luckily got a wrist band from a nice bouncer so I could get in the 2nd pit without having to get there at 10 o clock and endure the crass sounds of hothouse flowers, groove armada or the thrills.
What really pissed me off was the amount of pixignorant people who took up the front and had no interest while true fans saw nothing outside the pits. People were looking at me like I had ten heads just because I knew every song (and perhaps due to my over-emotional state!).
If I hadn't gotten to the (relative) front I would have had the worst day of my life. My real and sincere sympathy goes out to all of you who were not so lucky. |

Lucky you getting a wristband, i had to fight through the thickening crowds to get up front and even at that i was 100 people back. Mind blowing show though, they played so tightly and seemed to be having alot of fun. I got the impression a big portion of the crowd were there purely for the Pixies or else they were an extremely enthusiastic bunch of non-fans.Have to say Kim looked hot for a 40yr old(?)And her voice for in Heaven would melt an ice cap.Frank's voice seemed much stronger than the first night in Brixton and he seemed to be totally enjoying himself which is nice. Joey and Dave were their usual amazing profesional selves and the outro to No.13 baby would bring a tear to a glass eye.Without doubt the best band gig i've ever witnessed(solo is FB in camden)and could be the last time i see them. Thanks for the memories and as Abba say the music. |

Oh, and not to put a dampner on things. I hope that's the end so we can get back to the good aul days with Charles playing venues that we can all see him. Who knows, perhaps Joey will bring his lovely wife to Dublin, and Dave can entertain us with his magical ways! |

Arrived late, sadly for me! At that stage, all the pit passes were gone;during 'Where Is My Mind?' I was trying to get in, along with loads of other people(I think some managed to slip past the security wristband-less!)I hope they come back headlining there own show, hopefully in a smaller venue. |

Fuck. Me. I've never been that high on adrenaline for that length of time. Although I didn't get anywhere near the front, and I wasn't drunk (had planned on being a bit pissed, but didn't get the chance), I still went more ballistic than I've ever done before in my life. I'm 32 for Christ's sake. They were somehow even better than I could possibly have hoped for. There were pockets of pogoing around me that started a couple of songs in, and gathered Pixies fans happily singing their heads off as they went on. Felt like the hairs on the back of my neck were almost constantly standing on end, shivers running up and down my spine (still getting shivers today thinking about it). I bounced a 360 at one stage (think it was during Gigantic or U-Mass, maybe both) and it nearly brought a wee tear to my eye when I saw how many people were behind me, bouncing, singing and grinning. Magic stuff. Funniest moment for me was everyone(around me anyway) singing along to the riff when thay played Here Comes Your Man. Would dearly love to see the fuckers in a small venue though. BTW - the article in today's Irish Times says that they "Soundly upstaged" the Chilis. Deadly. |

Yeah it was a great show. I was standing (at least trying to) about 2 meters from the security fence in the "field-pit". Couldn't get a wristband unfortunately to get in the inner area. It was jam-packed indeed upfront there, but i didn't really experience violent behaviour or so. You Irish people sure are friendly ! Haha... there was even a guy pissing there before the show started. He couldn't get out anymore so he just let it go. Lousy Heineken by the way... am i going to Ireland, do i have to drink our own national sewer water... geez... I did take some pics (from far away, with a throw-away camera) so when i have had them developed and they look any good i'll upload them somewhere. Maybe you'll recognize your own faces because i also took some from the crowd :-) There was that rumour that the Pixies might do an after-show gig at Whelan's so i went there just in case, but unfortunately nothing happened. Spoke with a guy there with a Pixies "monkey" shirt so Peter if you're reading this: hey man ! |

i rekon the pixies could have filled a sizeable venue on their own (no prob... ).... chillies could have supported and allowed the pixies to do a number of encores.... must have been frightening for the chillies after the reception the pixies got throughout the set.... i may be biased but the crowd seemed tame (if u forgive the pun, last song too!!) afterwards for the chillies... all energy drained after that unbelieveable set....
i can die happy now |

WOW! What a fucking gig. We went straight for t-shirts, then beer and then sleep, totally forgot about getting into the pits, we just accepted defeat! We got into the gates shortly after 12 too :(

5MBish 'Here Comes Your Man' from the pilgrims pit. I've more videos, but I was at the snoretastic barrier for them, this is a bit better.
More pics later! |

Gig was absolutly awesome!! Seeing that Id seen em close up 3 times at brixton me and my mates decided to boycott the fucking bullshit wristband crap and chill out drinking beer all day. The hothouse flowers werent too bad, Groove Armarda were damn good, the Thrills were also damn good. Then just before the pixies came on, me and one of my mates got as close up as we could, cos YOU CANT JUST STAND THERE WHILST THE PIXIES ARE PLAYING!!!!!! 'Dead' has got to be one of the best pogoing and dancing songs in the world!!
When Bone Machine was about 1 min. in, a fight broke out right where i was standing, these guys were seriously fucking each other up. Then a few seconds later they were all happy again and the show went on. I was pissed off that the halfway speakers werent turned on!!!
Was the 5th time I'd seen the Peppers and couldnt even hear Flea's bass. Usually it makes your whole body vibrate!!!There show was like listening to fucking day time radio, only one or two un-usual songs. I feel sorry for them that they've lost that tight fan base which the pixies have still got.
They know that the Pixies pissed and piss all over them! , roll on T in the Park!

We were screaming along to all the songs together and having a good laugh! And i never even got her name! so if your reading this, i have a big load of beatles kinda hair, was wearing a here comes your man dog tshirt and a very big fat bird pushed ahead at me and danced into my crotch while i looked on aghast Ring any bells???

Okay, I need to know before I lose my mind ... does anybody know if an audio recording was made of this concert? I know it won't be available for a while yet, but just to know that there is one would put my mind at rest!

A friend of mime was telling me that Dave Fanning was raving last night about the Pixies gig. All the media coverage seems to concurr that the Pixies blew away the Chillis. Given the performance and the crowd / media reaction, I wouldnt be at all surprised to maybe see another Pixies outdoor headlining gig maybe squuzed in this year or defo next year if they are touring again.
