How come nobody is talking about the SASKATOON show but there are tons of posts on all the other Canadian shows??
Is anyone from the FORUM going to the show?
Where is everyone staying in SASKATOON? WHERE is everyone hanging out at in SASKATOON?
This show should be the best one because it's the first Saturday night show.
any thoughts?

I think SASKATOON has 210,000 people. I think Winnipeg is quite a bit bigger.
Myself and 3 others are coming from ONTARIO to light the town on fire that weekend! We getting stoked for the show!

226,000 in Saskatoon, GMA (with surrounding areas) is 250,000. Winnipeg is currently at about 700,000 or so.
I live in Saskatoon and am going to the Winnipeg & Saskatoon shows. Afterwards, I'm not sure what's going on, though I think a lot of people are staying downtown so...
Looking at putting together some sort of post-concert party at a pub I have some connections with, but it'd be a 30-45 min walk from downtown (or a 5 min drive) so maybe not.
I think that both shows are going to be phenomenal, and plus the band will have rested Friday (and are probably going to be hanging out in Saskatoon or maybe Regina). Anyway, I'm very pumped about these shows.
Where are you staying, etc?

I've got a friend coming from Fargo, and 2 friends from the Mpls area meeting at my house in Thief River Falls, MN, and from there we're carpooling up to Winnipeg. Since it's only a 2-hour drive from my house, we won't be staying overnight. The thing that concerns me about partying afterward is going through the border on the way back. I am definitely not going to have any alcoholic beverages before I cross the border on the way there. Too much at stake for that. We're probably going to get to Winnipeg around 5 p.m. I think. Winnipeg is going to be great sound-wise, being in a theatre and all. I don't have to worry about getting there early to get in line, as there are assigned seats. Hope I run into you guys there.
Sorry, not Saskatoon related.

I haven't been to Saskatoon in a long time. Is a flashing green light still a caution in Saskatchewan? |

Nope, we don't have flashing green lights. Flashing yellow and red, though. :)

I guess I'm not the only one for out of town going to the show!
What hotels are people staying at?
Where are the Pre-parties? Where are the Post- parties?
I heard this concert is the biggest on their warm-up tour.
Do you think they will do any covers?

Hey, I'll be driving there from Seattle (!! 2000 miles !!) with three other people and would love to hear about any pre/post show parties. We're staying at the Saskatoon Inn, incidentally. Anyone else gonna be there? Leaving on Thursday night...exciting!

Plan to be kicking around the Saskatoon show and really look forward to the chance to see the Pixies live. Any further info on the pre/post parties? Would be good to coordinate something with the good people from this site. Suppose we could all meet somewhere and then shake it up from there... sure by the end of the night it could be an epic outing.
Also, Cult... I heard from a Western frind that the nightlife ends around midnight in Saskatoon... any truth in this rumour?

That's not true, Monsieur Noir (I know you didn't ask me, but I'm bored). The nightlife ends when the bars close, which is 2:30 ish. And after that, it sounds like gnrcman has a hotel room we could all crash. I'm up for tearing into the ol' Saskatoon Inn. It's not like it's MY credit card bill.... |

Sweet... I forget where my hotel is and I am glad to know that rumour is just a rumour.
Sure there will be plenty of hotel parties which will languish into the early hours of the morning and hopefully satisfy everyone's collective ID. |

Depends on age/locale. Places like Bacchus and to a lesser extent the Spadina Freehouse tend to die off midnightish, and some other lounge/pubs tend to slow a bit as some of the people head to a bar to go dancing, but that's about it.
As far as where the party's going to be at, we'll probably have to wait and see that night. Freehouse is downtown but small and it's either going to be too full or too empty. Lydia's might not be a bad idea as it's on Broadway and big enough, but they usually have a band Sat nights and will be charging cover. But it's more of an indie place and there's the Hose & Hydrant (a bar converted from an old firehall) across the street. Also close to downtown.
Since it sounds like some people are staying in the north end by the airport (Saskatoon Inn, Travelodge, ...) anyway, if we don't want to do downtown, I could probably swing some sort of deal at Specklebelly's in Sutherland. It'd be about the right size and generally is about half full on Sat night, but isn't really an indie crowd.
I'd be happy to meet some of you guys and show hang out after the show. If you want to tell me what you'll be wearing or something, I'll try to track you down. Maybe we'll have stickers done by then...

Seriously... I will be the dude dressed up like a Pimp with a cane at the show... should be easy to find me... I'm just kidding...
Perhaps we can work out some type of group meet up thing here in the next couple days leading up to the show.

I just had a chat, and if people here are interested, there will be $4.50 schooners (1L/32 oz) of house draft at Specklebelly's if you have your Pixies ticket with you. Also, it's ladies' night, which means that if you're of the feminine persuasion, all the more cheap drinks.
Of course, it is farther away than any places downtown and is prolly a 10 min drive from Praireland and 5 from downtown. So if we'd rather do some place else, then we could do Lydia's or something. What do you guys coming from out of town think? We certainly want to make sure you have a good time Sat night here.

All the cool fb.net kids simply MUST get together post-Pixies for an all out Saskatoon-fest of drinking and debauchery. That, or I'll follow the Pixie bus around and then try and smell Kim's hair while she sleeps. |

A decade? Heyyooooooo
Sorry, couldn't resist, had to throw that awful bit out there.
COF Ladies night is never a problem... perhaps we can fly by that place at one point and go to other places over the course of the night.
Also, where is a good place to watch the game downtown? Leafs will hopefully be disposing of the Sens Friday night... maybe we can all meet catch the game and discuss where to go saturday after the gig and what to do on friday... |

If you want to hop around then we probably should go downtown... there's Specklebelly's and then a bar/club across the street and nothing else in that neighbourhood. Downtown would be best for bar hopping, lots in walking distance. Broadway also has three or four places: Amigos (where the Pixies would be playing if they were smaller), Lydia's, the Hose, and the Yard & Flagon (which is an always-full but very small lounge).
For places to watch the game, oddly I'm drawing a blank on downtown with big screens. The only place I can think of is the Earl's lounge. Which isn't as bad as you'd expect. Hey, free peanuts.

On expedia it was 80 bucks (US)/night, which includes all the taxes and whatnot. Nice thing about that is there are two queen sized beds. A lot of the other, slightly cheaper hotels had double beds, and with 4 people... |

I just discovered that RantMusic (formerly McGnarley's Rant) is going to be playing at Lydia's on the 17th as well. I'm really hoping they'll be playing late enough to catch that show as well....they're really, really, good. So that's where I'll be...trying to catch a second great show. |

well, like most good bands their sound is hard to describe, but i'll guarrantee that if you like the pixies you'll find something to like with in Rantmusic. Their website is www.rantmusic.com download the song tricycle. or any of their other live tracks. |
