Well, we could all hit Broadway after the show, so we could hop from Lydia's, to the Yard, the Hose, Bud's, Amigo's, etc.... |

COF,
Thanks for all the suggestions... putting a lot more into perspective in a town I have absolutely no experience in.
Sounds like Downtown is the place to chill and I imagine it will be some fun. Hopefully we can get some of the people on this great service together over the weekend.

It's just too bad you guys aren't here two weeks from now. By then, everything is green and the streets are swept, and you can see why Saskatoon has received the distinction as Canada's most beautiful city time and again.
Right now, everything is a shade of brown with just a little green starting to peak through.
Anyway, as you can probably tell, it's my pleasure.

What is the Temp there like? I haven't checked any weather sites... suppose I should though. Imagine it is under 10 during the day...

It seems everyone is talking about this show now!!
Hey CULT OF FRANK,
You say Saskatoon has some "GREEN". Do you mean the legal or illegal "GREEN"? Is it available in SASKATOON?

Supposed to go up to 13 on Sat, but generally around now the average temp is +7. We were in the 20s a week or two ago.
I'm sure that you'll have no problem scoring some 'green' in Saskatoon, especially on Broadway, though I was talking more about the trees and the hills and the river valley. :) I don't do it myself, so I really am not much help to you there.

Hey everyone... I'm from Saskatoon too, and I'll be at the show on Saturday! I actually came here looking to find out who's opening for them (still haven't found out?), and saw this S'toon post.
So what's the verdict then? Broadway after the show? Let's all go to The Odeon instead!!!! lol, no, that'd never happen.
Hey COF, you heard it's supposed to snow tomorrow, right? At least it'll give us some moisture so our out-of-towners don't see how dusty everything is right now! I won't last long at all, and I'm sure it'll be nice again by Saturday. |

Odeon? is that where the S'toon-ladies shake their batties? Is that a dance club or something? If they have a Go-Go booth, I might have to shake it like a mofo-in polariod Picture up in there.
I heard Sam and the Samtones were opening for the Pixies but I could be wrong... seriously who is opening?! Good question Mandi...
So light jacket weather?

Hey speedy, how 'bout the Pat instead then? We'll compromise. You know you love The Pat. I've actually never been to the Odeon, or ever want to, but yeah, it's like 'the' dance club here, from what I hear.
Broadway sounds good to me. I get a bit too comfy at Lydia's, so I may not leave.
I don't know what a "Sam and the Samtones" is! (lol) Ack! I hope they're good. Not that I really care... it's not what I'm going for. I'm going for all the hot Pixies fans! :P
And yeah, a light jacket would probably do ok for you... unless you're a wussy from BC, then you may need a parka. :P (just jokes, I used to live there too.)
Or you could just bring a bunny hug! *wink wink to all the fellow SK-ers who know what I'm talkin about!* |

Firstly, "hoodies" and all usages therein, are the second sign of the apocalype.
Secondly, I will SO shake my ass the Pat, as to make all white-boy ass-shaking before it seem inconsequential.
Thirdly, any place that I am at instantly becomes 'the' dance club, so step back and enjoy.
I guess it will be me and Mandi partying on Broadway, while you chump and chumpette's scrounge around the Pat trying to get in the backdoor. |

Yeah, I saw that. I thought I'd try to keep the snow hidden from our soon-to-be-visitors, but, well, you ruined everything, ruiner! Also, personally, I'd take the Odeon over most of the other dance clubs (to be fair, I'm not really a dance commander) including the Overdrive, but that's a matter of preference I guess. It's not quite the laid back atmosphere of Lyd's, I'll give you that. :) Go on, start mocking me and my lifestyle choices. I'm ready.
I've been walking around with a t-shirt lately, but yeah, you might want a bunny hug just to keep warm.
Woodworm, we'll see to it that Sunday morning becomes Sunday "mourning" for you. <cue ominousness>
What's a Hoody? :)

Sam and the Samtones is Sammy Haggars new band, hear Frank is a big fan.
Not from the B to the C so I shouldn't be too cold... I am from Toronto tho(cue anti-Ontario banter) and not up on the "Bunny Hugs" so someone please...an explaination.
Are all these places you are talking about downtown? Is the Overdrive owned by Randy Bachman or something... ahhhh heyooo |

Frank digs Sammy Haggar? Surely you jest. Sounds like someone's been hitting the Cabo Wabo....
A "bunny hug" is the proper term for a "hoodie". Trust me.
Most of the dance clubs are downtown, but Broadway has one psuedo-dancy place, the Hose and Hydrant. Choices abound, my friend. |

Hahaha, let's not forget Mr. Turner.
Bunny hug = hoodie. Except cooler. You'll see.
Lydia's is on Broadway, everywhere else is downtown (Specklebelly's is in Sutherland which is near neither one). Probably you guys would like Broadway the best. Overdrive is scuzzy and probably the worst bar in the city. Odeon is a converted theatre and is pretty upscale. I haven't been there in a LONG, though Sat. nights used to be their nights, but they've slowed down I think. That place is huge and if it's not full it feels quite empty. The Pat is where the Kinesiology students from the U of S tend to hang out, which is to say the jocks, etc. Not sketchy but not nice either. Warehouse-style bar.

Seriously?... sounds suspiciously similar to an act I heard of that was almost as pricey as a "Rusty Trombone" but I'll take your word for it.
All the Bars sound appealing... I suppose a lot of everything will have to do with where people are staying etc... but I am liking what I am hearing, especially since I have learnt the S'toon lingo for hoodie... In Toronto we call it a Hoodie...

Well, as long as it's somewhere near downtown, I'm ok. I live down there, and the less far I have to crawl back to my apartment, the better.
I'll just tell you, The Odeon is bad, The Pat is bad, ShockWaves is bad, Overdrive is bad, (showgirls is really bad!), The Sutherland is bad. ( I can't think of any others at the moment) - Bad meaning it wouldn't appeal to you unless you're a horny 19 yr old (or younger) jock or mega-skank. The Odeon isn't "bad" exactly, but it's definitely not my style.
You're more likely to find me at Lydia's, relaxin' in my bunny hug ;), with a Kokanee. (as opposed to worrying that not enough of my thong is showing, whilst getting an ass grinding/slapping on the dance floor of ShockWaves)
You punks just better not come here, and start talking any of your anti-bunnyhug crap, cause.... yeah, well you'll see. |

lol, that's quite the line. :P And ummm... I don't know about that. Is that an Ontario word for porn?
But really...are you serious about the documentary? Why? and why about Saskatoon? Is it gonna be some kind of FUBAR thing? lol That's likely what you'll end up with around here!
Friday night before the concert? Probably nothing... trying to save my money for Sat night.
*edit- All of the above was a response to a post, but it mysteriously disappeared*
Are you guys actually coming here JUST to see The Pixies? Was it not possible to get tickets somewhere closer? I got mine the day they started selling them, and they were supposedly going really fast.
They're gonna have drinking at Prairieland, right? I've never been to anything there, so I don't know how they work things. Is there gonna be a designated 'bar' area where you have to drink?

Just to let everyone know I found who will be opening for the Saskatoon show! It's gonna be a local band by the name of The Junior Pantherz. I found out from the forum at threeohsix.org, where one of the band members announced it today. If anyone is interested in checking it out, it's under the live shows in Saskatoon section of the forum.
I was fairly disappointed after hearing all the speculated openers, but it doesn't matter as long as the Pixies are there.
I saw the Junior Pantherz live at the Bassment (a decent place in downtown Saskatoon)less than a month ago, and they were very good. Plus they opened for Modest Mouse (my other favorite band) here in September, so they got to be doing something right.
Since the Trail of Dead were originally rumored to open, the Junior Pantherz jokingly said, "If it makes it any better, our whole set will consist of Trail of Dead covers". And then asked everyone not to throw projectiles at them during their set. |

Yawn.
Everyone here in Toon Town knew it would be them. It was probably either them or Wide Mouth freakin' Mason.

First Sam and the Samtones turns out to be a rumour and now no Wide Mouth Mason... Van Damn!
Any idea how long the Pixies will play their actual show? Will it be like Frank and a super long show or will it be more industry standard?
Sorry if this is posted elsewhere but I don't have time to surf during the day...

I heard they were going to have a two-hour version of Saskatoon-Idol with Kim and Frank dishing the disses. One can only hope! Now I have to watch a band that uses a fucking "zed" for an "ess", I can't ztand this hard rock B.Z.! If they play a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, I might have to sing along though.:)

Well, I've talked to RantMusic, and they're going to try to play at 10:30-11 to give people as much time as possible to get to Lydia's. I'm not sure how much control they have over when they play. At any rate, they've asked me to make sure people will be there, so...people...be there! Trust me, they're really worth seeing. It'll be a great cap to what I'm sure will be a great Pixies show. |
