I should also mention that as far as I can tell the acoustics are just fine at the Fine Line ... that's probably the main factor that a damn good performance couldn't compensate for, and one I don't think we need to worry about. |

this is true, their new sound system, since the fire, is fucking stellar. and they have a cool oval LCD type projection that has a video feed of the stage above the crowd, for those at the far back.

A big longshot, but for those still looking for tickets Drive 105 has contests for winning tickets which as far as I can tell don't require you to be listening to the station:
http://drive105.com/ (follow the "click here for your chance to win" link). |

For those who haven't checked it out yet here's a pretty decent picture of the Fine Line interior (the second photo, at least):
http://www.finelinemusic.com/page.cfm?section=section_cat&id=7
I'm guessing this was taken about 2/3 of the way back. Maybe halfway, but probably somewhere between 2/3 and one half. There's a bit of crowd space behind this vantage point, but not a ton.
And I'm guessing those tables will not be there for the Pixies. If I remember correctly it depends on the band whether or not they use the tables. |

To be honest, Minneapolis totally SUCKS for plane fares. The more or less total lack of budget airlines to provide competition is mostly to blame, I think. Sure, there's ATA, America West, maybe a couple others, but no Southwest and certainly none of the budget guys use Minneapolis as a hub. If you're flying between here and Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, or Atlanta you're pretty much in luck, but other than that you might want to resort to Priceline or something.
Thanks for the tip...but I just looked on Orbitz. Round trip from Southern Cal is less than $200. That, plus $100 for a ticket on eBay and I think I'm making out like a bandit. Let's hope those tickets don't skyrocket. (I'm laying low till the last minute )

Yeah, I've never tried to fly to California but that sounds like a damn good fare.
$100 on eBay? Nice. I guess people are wising up to the fact that we really have no idea what the "first" concert will be... |

Although I guess $100 is just the opening bid.
Funny how this guy chose to do these as a 24-hour auction. He must be paranoid that another "first" show in the tour will be announced before he can collect on his Minneapolis tickets. |

Minneapolis Mysteries.
I tried for and got my ticket as soon as I saw this thread, about 1:30.
A few questions for all the Minnesotans.
I recall a long time ago being at a place in St. Paul to watch some Jazz, I thought it was the Fine Line, a wee little place.
I've been down to see Frank Black a couple of times, I thought the places were the First Avenue and somewhere near the University, but the Fine Line looks awfully familiar to me.
When they were at the First Avenue I got a super sweet deal at the Marriott, where after the show I happened to notice Mr. Black in the lobby. I'm sure he was thrilled to see us drunk Canadians, we said hi, shook hands, then he bolted across the lobby quicker than a wink. Is that a suitable (but pricey) hotel for the Fine Line?
Is Shelley's Woodroast Smoke House at 100 and 394 still there? It's been opened and closed a couple of times.
My friendly local bartender was telling me about a great place for ribs, one location on Nicollette or Marquette with a fake Chicago style "L" running in the roof. There's another location that maybe better in St.Paul or around Lake. Anyone know what I'm talking about?
Ok, here's the real puzzler. A few years ago I stopped in Minneapolis on my way to Chicago and got a big hassle from a guy while checking in at the hotel, a lady intervened, and I over heard the guy say, "I thought you said when they're dressed like that..." and she cut him off, "He's from out-of-town, it doesn't necessarily mean anything."
Then, I was down to see Bettie Serveert, going to get a beer at the bar and a lady almost certainly purposefully backed into my path and then yelled at me to be careful. On the same trip my friend and I stopped in at a drug store and a young African-American lady seemed distressed to be serving us. She didn't say a word and angrily threw our candy bars in to the bag.
Now, I live an easy lifestyle, I'm big, tall, I have long unkempt hair, I am generally unshaven, wear sweats, a t-shirt and a big shirt over that, kind of like Nick Foley of wrestling. I'm too old to change my habits, but I'm curious if I've stumbled on the uniform of some unsavory types there?

hhands, I feel kind of dumb but I can't answer most of your questions. As for your appearance, maybe you could post your picture and it will all come together ;) I'm sure there's nothing specific about Minneapolis as far as that goes, though. People here don't seem especially paranoid or conservative (especially the latter -- I mean, people here should be used to facial tattoos by now for chrissakes, what's a little facial hair and sweatpants?)
The only places I know of here that FB has played were First Ave and Quest, both of which are in the same area (and also pretty near the Fine Line). I haven't been to all his shows though so someone else could probably fill you in better on venues near the university (although as far as university area venues go, there's basically 400 Bar and Turf Club and both seem too small for Frank to be playing). Anyway, if your hotel was a reasonable distance from First Ave you will also be close enough to Fine Line. They're like four blocks from each other, give or take.
Ribs? I only know of Famous Dave's, but there are none of those downtown, it's a chain, and I know of no Chicago-style L. Again, my ignorance prevails.
Ugh ... I hope I helped a tiny bit. I feel ashamed.

By the way, I have the feeling this fooood guy is on these forums or at least reads them. He wrote some things (I think it was him, at least) in the description for his Spaceland auction that sounded eerily similar to things people were saying here. And I doubt too many other places were leaking the news of the Fine Line show beforehand.
Just saying ... don't tip your hand to this guy about laying low until the end ;) He might drop his prices even further if you don't... |

I know this is way too early to be concerned, but I just checked my order status on Ticketmaster and the detail shows no tickets, 0.00 charges, nothing ... I've never checked an order status so early before so I have no idea if this is normal.
Anyone else getting this? |

Somehow I doubt that these couple auctions are the only ones that will end up on ebay. It seems to me that if the ticket limit was 8, at least a couple people will be trying to scalp their extras. Also, if another "secret" show is announced, the value goes down a little... who knows?

Madtempest runs another forum about the Pixies: pixiesmusic.com.
As I said, good work on posting that and thanks. Good detective work on your part, that's for sure.

UGH I am so incredibly upset about this. I found out about 2 pm when i checked my email(thanks to roomloo sending me a email, thanks man even though it did me no good since it was sold out) The shows 80 miles from here and my gf doesnt want to do the winnipeg drive much(though if i could i'd go to both this show and winnipeg) since its 550 miles away and we're mostly broke at the moment so a hotel and the gas and other costs for winnipeg are going to be insane. I literally broke out in tears when I saw this had went on sale without me knowing and it was sold out and i'm not the kind of guy who freaks out and cries or whatever. I'm pathetic i know. This is just complete shit. I signed up with drive 105 and signed my gf up too to try and win a ticket but the odds of that happening are zero, i never win anything especially something i want this bad. So drive 105 is responsible for this or who, im thinking im going to find a drive 105 employee(doesnt matter who, :P)and beat the living crap out of them the day of the show(whether i get a ticket or not) for pulling this crap on fans. Why they're playing fine line which is tiny tiny tiny is beyond me but they could have played first ave which i think is like 2500 and still sold out in five seconds with all the minneapolis area people who want to see this. ANYWAY, im done ranting for now and though i doubt anyone here has extras(if you do and can hook me up you are my personal jesus for the next year)but i need two or ill take one just so i can see it. Maybe ill try and ebay one tomorrow but cash is tight, if i could get one for 200 or less :(
Frustrated, argh, sorry for the long post. |

I would have thought it would take much coordination between Ticketmaster, the radio announcement, leaking info to FB.net. |

The fastest way from Minneapolis to Winnipeg... Take Interstate 94 west to U.S. Highway 59...go north on 59...when you come to Thief River Falls, it'll be 5 hours...then keep taking 59 north, and you'll reach the Canadian border slightly more than an hour later...keep going on 59 north and you will reach Winnipeg in 45 more minutes. So, total length of the drive is about 7 hours.
By the way I'm planning on trying to get tickets to this Minneapolis gig...I need 2 tickets...then going to the Winnipeg show.
Any sellers that are interested...e-mail me.
I'm a fsh with no i's. |

You should get your name on the Mpls need/have thread ... worth a shot anyway. Hopefully someone will take charge of handling a list of people who need, want, how many, manner of distribution, etc.
Worked real well for Winnipeg, did not work for Vancouver ... for what that's worth. |

Actually from Minny go to Frago then head North to WInnipeg through Grand Forks. Its HWY75 in Canada but I cant remember what it is in the states. Its much faster then HWY59 but not as scenic.
