I'm not sure where "Frago" is. Is that like "Fraggle Rock?" HAHA

Anyway, I am planning to go to this show. I don't have tickets yet, but I'm working on it. Roomloo, Solace, you're both going to both shows, yes? Who else is going to both?

We should have a definite get-together before the show, then do a caravan to Winnipeg. I only have a little Honda Civic, so anyone that wants to Carpool would have to cram in a small space... but it's possible! Then again, I think a caravan is a good idea, because if someone DOES break down, (loganZ?) they're covered!

Oh also check this out from MTV.com:

The launch of the Pixies' reunion tour will no longer be in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on April 14 — the first date of the trek is now April 13 in Minneapolis, where the band is currently rehearsing.
http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1485727/20040312/spears_britney.jhtml?headlines=true

They are rehearsing in Minneapolis??? I feel like just walking around aimlessly until I bump into Mr. Black Francis.

That has GOT to be wrong, but who knows. It makes me all tingly thinking of the possibility.

The Pixies do have a second-hand Twin Cities connection: Kelley Deal lived in St. Paul for a while up until about 3-4 years ago.

Gotta admit, it's pretty low-key. All bundled up in winter clothes, they would probably pass under the radar.

Come to think of it though ... aren't there still a bunch of FB / Breeders shows going on in California in the coming weeks?

Dammit, I wish I hadn't thought of that. I only had like five minutes to be excited...

Kim is definately in California for those breeders shows from the 21st to the 1st.

MTV doesnt know anymore than we do, I'd wager. And I'd almost guarantee Minnesota will not end up being the first show.

Thanks again for the heads up about Minneapolis.

As for your last post, do you know something? Or is that your best guess?

If you know something, please share!!! Or at least, please share as soon as you are allowed to share! Thanks 4eva!!

I think many people would agree that Winnipeg sounded like a funny place for a first show, even though we were thrilled to be going to it. The problem is, you can't really wait around for another show to be announced, because if what we hear is true this show was not supposed to be leaked. We probably will find out on April 9th or something, that there is a show the next night. I no longer care about seeing the FIRST show... but this show at the Fine Line is going to be awesome.

I dont think anyone here knows anything really (except Dave Noisy - I bet he knows *exactly* whats going on :-) )

Hopefully any further shows will at least be announced 2-3 days ahead of time, and available through ticketmaster instead of in person or something.

Did a search on startribune.com...

GONE TO HEAVEN

The Pixies were supposed to start their highly anticipated reunion tour next month in Canada -- Winnipeg, to be exact -- but Boston's post-punk icons have quietly booked an unofficial tour kickoff at the Fine Line in Minneapolis on April 13. They're rehearsing in town for a few days before the show, is why. Tickets went on sale Thursday and sold out faster than you could ask, "So do we call him Frank Black or Black Francis?" (C.R.)

This sheds a tiny bit of doubt on there being other secret shows, but my money is still on Minneapolis not being the first. Who knows about the Star Tribune's sources, anyway.

But on the other hand...

Unless there are secret shows in California, is there really any reason for them to be still rehearsing continuously in LA? I hear things like "they are rehearsing in LA," but that's a long time to be rehearsing ... with all the Breeders shows going on I'd think they'd be able to take a few weeks off from the Pixies and then another three-day crash course in Minneapolis before the tour. They must know the songs really well by now. From what I heard they held their first rehearsals last year.

Just a thought. I'm not totally buying into anything right now.

Logan --

I think I can provide that phone call. I work a few blocks away and on the 18th floor ... not totally sure I can see the sidewalk from there, but on such a special day I can just as easily walk over to the skyway between Target Center and Block E and get a good view.

But then come to think of it, I'll probably take that day off work. hmm.

I wouldn't worry too much about the line, though. Whether you're first in line or 100th, you can still get close and maybe even push to the front. Plus there's a balcony as a fallback. But yeah, you wouldn't want to get there too late and be like the 400th person in. I was thinking I'd be safe getting there an hour before doors. I certainly wouldn't be near the last person in, at least.

Luce is a good meeting option. Hadn't thought of that. If people are willing to go just over the river there's also Nye's and Psycho Suzy's, but I'll throw in a vote along with yours for Luce.

Well, I have some answers to my questions, thank you roomloo and joshuagingery.

The rib place with the Chicago 'L' is Famous Dave's on Lake and Hennepin, there was a review of Shelley's as late as November 2003, and the place I saw Frank Black at was the Ground Zero (6 years ago?...I'm old!).

The Ground Zero show was very strange, they had dance police, "Stop". I hope the same crowd didn't get tickets for this show.

I can confirm that for ya LoganZ. Unfortunate drama with a "friend" over this . Long story short, I'm still one of the depressed on the "Minneapolis need ticket" thread.

If Pizza Luce is right there, then why don't we meet there, that way we can keep an eye on the line situation. I have to work that day (I think?) or maybe not. I don't know. Either way, I'm going to be there early, at least a few hours. My wife gets off work at 4:30PM. So maybe around 5-ish.

I also wondered about the stage thing, having seen the pictures on the web. I couldn't imagine people rushing the stage in a situation where the band is so exposed... like I have been to small album release parties in record stores and people gave the band at least a foot or two to breathe -- it is going to be really wierd seeing my favorite band play a stage smaller than venues my old band used to play.

Also (news flash):

The first show is going to be at my house in Hudson, Wisconsin. It is near Minneapolis, but they are going to set up some amps in the garage and play for the neighborhood. This will be the "micro warm-up" to the "secret show warm-up" to the "warm-up tour" before Coachella. Rumor has it they want to play before a really small crowd before playing for a medium-small crowd at the Fine Line.

Oooh Oooooh! Put me down for 2 tix to the garage show! And if the Pixies play at my Grad next month, I'll trade my Grad tix for Minneapolis!

Sorry, but those last two posts left me howling with laughter for a good 10 minutes. You guys crack me up.

I'm willing to bet that some people will start to line up at noon or before. The earliest my friend and I can get there is probably around 1:30 though. Which, if I get tickets, I'm planning on doing...whether or not there's already a line forming. Well, weather permitting, I suppose. It'll be mid April, but hey, this is Minnesota.

And speaking of Luce...whenever my friends and I line up real early for shows at First Ave in the spring/summer, we have a couple of us save our spot in line, and then a couple of us go down to Luce and bring back a pizza or two. Good times. The Margherita pizza is to die for and makes the wait a lot shorter.

Also...am I the only one that doesn't really care that this is going to be (for now, at least) the first show? I mean, that's cool and everything, but I'm just looking forward to seeing what could very possibly be the concert of my life. I haven't gotten the chance to see the Pixies or anything even Pixies derivative live, ever, and this is the only show I would be able to go to on this tour...so if I get tix I'll be thrilled just to be seeing them, period. The Fine Line and it being the first show are just bonuses to me.

I think the "sold out" idea is pretty probable... their website says "don't even call us -- it's sold out" so maybe they are just trying to prevent even more phone calls than they are already getting. Plus, one might also theorize that these other shows are NOT sold out, (but that Bret Michaels show was gonna be smokin'! Why did that get cancelled? I had my POISON shirt ready and everything!! Oh wait, no I didn't)

I wonder if this is the biggest show this place has ever had, or just one of the biggest.

The opening act of the warm-up date in my garage is still TBA, but I am hoping to get Nirvana or the Beatles to open up. I originally thought I had a better chance of seeing one of these two bands live than I had at seeing the Pixies, so I thought it only fitting that they should be the opening act.

I guess I would wager on the 2/3 Nirvana over the 50/50 Beatles. It's just a gambling thing. I play the percentages.

I was hoping Kurt Cobain would return from the dead. Now that the Pixies have reunited, everything is possible.

I don't want to cause any waves here, but porkbone1, what date do you have the Pixies scheduled to play in your garage? You make it sound as though it's right before their 4/13 show in Minneapolis. The problem is, I just got off the phone with their agent. They're booked to play in my basement on 4/12 in Brookings, South Dakota. I can't start selling tickets, though. Sorry guys. And as far as the opening act goes, we did manage to get Nirvana. Yes, Kurt was frozen in carbonite. But he's down in my basement right now "warming up" with the band. Let me know if we have a scheduling conflict.

Sincerely,

Dietr
