Good work grabbing that, Mr. Tempest. And yeah, Minneapolis in a 300 person venue would rock. If it weren't 18 hours away and in the middle of a work week, I'd definitely get myself there.
The show was actually not supposed to be publicized until a day or two before it happened, sort of a secret Pixies show that got blown because the venue manager misunderstood a confirmation as a green light to start selling tickets. There will probably be other secret Pixies shows as well, though for an idea of where, you're probably going to have to wait until a few days before they happen. But I think you can use your imaginations... :)
In response to the Calistanian, I'm still thoroughly excited for Winnipeg, since it is still their first tour stop officially, and I'm glad that some of our southern/eastern friends that couldn't make the trip to Winnipeg or didn't get tickets will get a chance to see him too.
Winnipeg is still going to have Pixies fans from around the world congregating for it, and the energy there should be through the roof. I look forward to seeing many of you there.

I'm kind of proud of my area of the country for hosting these two Pixies shows back to back. I mean, first of all, the first place was Winnipeg, which I am only 2 hours away from, happens to get the Pixies! And I get tickets! And since I live in Minnesota, I'm happy they're playing a show there too, 5 hours from where I live. I think they do realize that they have a good fan base even in these more remote parts of the country. Big ups to Manitoba and Minnesota!

Cult of Frank, do you have any feeling for why (the band and/or booking agents) are doing things in this fashion? And can you get an okay to release info to us a tiny bit before its announced to the world? :) |

If anyone gots a ticket they can't use and wants to get rid of it, I live in Minneapolis and would love to trade room and board for an extra ticket. I live in Uptown about 3 miles away from the show. |

I'm not sure when they started measuring theat "three minutes" from, but thanks to those weird computer snafus I eventually gave up, stayed on hold for five minutes on the TM phone line, and bought my tickets probably 10-15 minutes after the sale was announced. I think a couple of friends might have gotten theirs after that, even.
And the announcement was even late -- they were supposed to announce it about 1:05 and it took them until 1:10.
Small venue, but obviously not so publicized as, say, Vancouver (a venue of somewhat comparable size). |

Well, I have no idea why Winnipeg is stop number one on their tour, but given that it is, these other shows are probably all going to be small venues with small audiences to work them up to the bigger ones on the warm-up tour and even bigger ones starting with Coachella.
Also, there's probably a little bit of the anti-scalper factor in there for these small shows (where demand would be greatest).
And of course, there's the coolness factor of just happening to be in a bar and having the Pixies come up on stage.
I don't have any other info to release or not release at the moment, but the Official Source (tm) is pretty good about keeping us ahead of everyone else when official news is to be made. That said, if there are more secret shows, they're probably not going to be officially announced. Dave is the one who'd know best, I'm just a lackey. :)

the Fine Line holds 720, you can call the box office if you'd like and ask. it's been remodeled since the fire, and isn't any bigger. you'll get an estimate of between 600-800 for it's capacity, depending upon who you'll ask. i've seen 30+ shows at the Fine Line in the last 4 years, trust me, it's way bigger than 300. it's our only real good mid-sized venue. 7th Street Entry holds 250, Turf holds like 300-350, 400 Bar holds 300-350, Triple Rock holds about 450-500, Cabooze about 1000, First Ave 1600, Quest 1800, Pantages 1200, etc., everything else is larger.

it took about 8 minutes from the time my friend first got tickets, until i finally got tickets, so i wouldn't say that it really sold out in 3 minutes. especially since i doubt my friend was the first one to get hers, and i wasn't the last, as my friend got 4 after i did. i'd say a safe estimate of how long it took for them to sell out is about 10-12 minutes. but with the delay in the announcement, and the link not being live for like 6-7 minutes, it was pretty hectic, that's for sure :)

FB.Net's source isn't affiliated with the venue, so 3 mins people is probably third-hand information by the time you read it. 300 people was just what I heard from Dave, I think.
Still, seems like the consensus is about 15 mins and 700 people, and that's still a pretty awesome-sized venue to see the Pixies in. And an impressive sell-out time considering the lack of announcement.

yeah, it's a great venue, as dave said, it's super nice and clean, almost a bit upscale. they predominantly get any big UK band that come through (South, Doves, Super Furry Animals, Badly Drawn Boy, etc.). the crowd that can sometomes frequent the Fine Line, your generic annoying talking bar crowd, used to make me hate the Fine Line, but as long as the show is pretty packed with fans of the band, that's not a big problem.
this show is going to be def the most crazy/packed show i'll have ever seen at the Fine Line, for sure.

Well all this latest news pretty much puts an end to all those LA "Breeders/Pixies" shows, I guess. So much for us catching the "first" Pixies appearance down here in southern cali.
I ain't got no shot of going out to Minneapolis.
For what it's worth, that seller on eBay looks pretty reliable. Already has positive feedback for other Pixies tickets he/she's sold. Seems like he's legit. (For anyone even considering eBay...ALWAYS check the feedback!)
For those of you going to this show (and Winnipeg)(and ANY other Pixies show) have a blast for me!

Hum. Interesting.. do you know how long the drive is? I'm trying to decide which show(s) I'm going to between Minneapolis, Winnipeg and Vancouver..
Good luck selling the Saskatoon tix, I'm sure you'll have no trouble. |

I'm doing Minneapolis and Winnipeg. I'm pretty sure I know of a few others.
pixiesseixip -- I don't see why you should lose faith (and neither does "friend of joseph alberto", apparently). Unless I'm missing something, I can't think of a reason why they couldn't do a Cali show AND a few pre-Winnipeg shows in the eastern half of the country. I mean, you already know Kim is, why not the rest of the band too... |

I hear as little as five hours, as long as 10 ... but I think 6-7 would be a pretty good guess as far as Minneapolis-to-Winnipeg. |

Yeah, possibly. But based on what Cult of Frank said, I'm not so sure. Anyway, I'm giving up on my "holy grail" of seeing the first Pixies thang.
I'm seriously considering eBaying it for the Minnesota tickets, though (even if it turns out to not be the first show). I have Breeders tickets, but no DEFINITE Pixies tickets yet. This Minneapolis show seems like its going to be tight. It is the smallest venue so far (is the Commodore comparable? anyway, I ain't got tickets to that either). But yeah, Fine Line Music Cafe seems like a phat (i.e. tiny) venue, and how much can plane tickets to Minnesota be?
Plus, I would FINALLY be seeing the Pixies FOR SURE. I can't affort that buy it now crap, but $100 a pop seems like the going rate for any of the Pixies shows on eBay.
Now to find a sugardaddy... |

To be honest, Minneapolis totally SUCKS for plane fares. The more or less total lack of budget airlines to provide competition is mostly to blame, I think. Sure, there's ATA, America West, maybe a couple others, but no Southwest and certainly none of the budget guys use Minneapolis as a hub. If you're flying between here and Chicago, Denver, Phoenix, or Atlanta you're pretty much in luck, but other than that you might want to resort to Priceline or something. |

i will tell you, that the venue is not the best venue for a band like the Pixies, it's not my ideal at all. honestly, if they could have done this at First Avenue, which holds 1600, i would take a packed First Ave house over a packed Fine Line house ANY day of the week.
i'm more excited about the venue in Winnipeg, for sure.
there are worse venues they coulda played in Mpls (Quest), but there are better ones too (First Ave) |

For what it's worth, Chicago is a 7 hour drive from here and Madison is 4. A couple times I've resorted to flying out of those places. Of course you'd have to rent a car, but maybe not such a bad thing if you split the cost with a few people. Worth a look, anyway. |

thanks marble, if you want all my tickets for both Saskatchewan shows, that'd be wonderful. if you don't need 2, and only 1, you could easily sell em at the venue for face i'm sure.
we'll have to exchange them at the Winnipeg show, as i have the Saskatoon tickets in hand, but Regina i have to pick up at a TM center in canada, (or maybe it's regina that i have, i forget).

I agree with Solace. However, the Pixies could be playing at (insert name of shitty 1000-capacity dive here) and it would still f*cking rule. Considering that enjoyment should come about 90% from the Pixies and 10% from the venue, not such a significant thing.
Hey, wouldn't it be awesome if they were playing Triple Rock instead ;) |
