Heres my idle speculation about the April 1st show:
It could be a Pixies show because they would bring a lot of press to the cancer benefit.
It may not be a Pixies show because the circus around that would probably drown out the rest of the benefit show, which would be disrespectful.
Any clearer? :-) |

I wonder if anyone managed to talk to Frank after his solo gig the other night and whether and new revelations were brought to the forefront of this, the most provocative of threads... |

the real question is, what do they mean by "benefit show for a rock promoter with cancer"?
sounds like a riddle if i've ever heard one!
can you say, "secret pixies show"? |

What rock promoter, and what kind of cancer? And what would benefit a rock promoter with some sort of a cancer? Many rock promoters are "like a cancer", yet relatively few actually have cancer. |

huh? Am I just not getting the connection? Call me crazy, but I thought "benefit show for a rock promoter with cancer" meant that they are doing a benefit show for a rock promoter with cancer... http://www.jackiefarry.com/raffle/
With all this new news from Cult of Frank on the "4-13-04 Fine Line Music Cafe! Minneapolis, MN" forum, I don't think that LA's going to see any Pixies anytime soon... http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=6150&whichpage=3
Bummer.
Still psyched to see a KICK-ASS Breeders show, though.

pixiesseixip, I just posted this in the other thread but I'm curious as to why you think they couldn't be playing a show in LA now? I must be missing something. |

I didn't mean anything toward that guy. Just a joke playing on floop's speculations a page or two back. Maybe it was a little cold. If it makes it any easier, I'll die someday, too. |

ok, so............ a couple of years ago i went to go see ugly cassanova (a side-project band of the lead singer of modest mouse) at chop suey in seattle. i had never seen them, but i have seen the mouse lots of times thru the years. modest mouse played instead. it seems as though they had contracts with festivals blah blah..... that is why i am here
the pixies still need to work their way up to "bigger" shows like minneapolis and probably nyc, boston, detroit, dayton? and why not start right in the state where they happen to be practicing and drinking starfucks in? california. don't they owe it to their baristas? maybe they can't or are'nt interested in doing this
i hate this reverse 1st date crap winnipeg has lost it's chip

hey roomloo, I dunno. I was just basing my comments on what Cult of Frank said about secret shows only being announced a couple of days beforehand. But then again, what does he know anyway, right? We probably know as much as he does. I figure if I don't get my hopes up too high, I can only be pleasantly surprised (as opposed to being completely let down, if I have great expectatcions). Where is my mind?
And BLT, it's all good. |

my comment was merely a joke about all the over-reaching speculation. didn't mean any disrespect to real-life concert promoter, nor do i think BLT's comment was meant to be..
on a hopeful note though, a friend of mine who knows someone who works at the Troubadour said that that show will "definitely not be a Pixies show"..
what do you think they meant by that? seems a little ambiguous if you ask me.. almost like a riddle...
"definitely NOT a Pixies show" "definitely NOT a Pixies show"
hmmmm. i'll think about it. |

Frank has said repeatedly that they wouldn't get back together unless someone was in the hospital and need the money for medical bills or something of that nature. The Pixies will play L.A. in March. I think it's pretty safe to say that. Whether it's one song or a secret set somewhere, I think it's pretty inevitable what with the lack of scheduled L.A. shows and the fact that they're practicing out here... and because Frank has lived here for a long time before. It's his old stomping ground. He likes playing out here and play they will... I just have no clue where and how. All I know is that if they don't show up, there will be some bitter Breeders on stage suffering the catcalls of rude, indignant Pixies fans... present company excluded, of course. |

I'll be there for a (probably) breeders show. However, Kim and the band almost always hang around on stage after the show, definitely try to politely prod her in to give out info on when and where the first *real* pixies show will be! I'm still suspicious of the benefit show, but if its not that there probably wont be one in CA at all...

Pretty sure there will be some tickets at the door, but I'd get there super early... Spaceland fills up quick, and I've seen lines around the block for shows there. |

I was told that there will be a "handfull" of "limited" tickets available Sunday. I live about 4 minutes from Spaceland, but I'm planning on seeing Blonde Redhead in Pomona! Am I mad? |

My ticket says that also.
I wonder why they are releasing a few more tickets at the door? Maybe its so a few more lucky fans can see the FIRST PIXIES SHOW!!!
:) :)

Yeah, cause Blonde Redhead are playing tonight at the Henry Fonda. I saw them there last year, and there were tickets available at the door (though there was a line around the block). Other than that it depends who you like better. They were very good, just not amazing. I was surprised how much they relied on "backing tracks".

I just checked out those pictures. Thank you very much. You don't know how happy I am to see those two on stage together. Having fun! It's quite reassuring, to say the least.

It was a fun show! Band was in great spirits, Kim looked great (new haircut). Huffer, Saints, No Aloha, Little Fury, Flipside, IJWGA, Head to Toe, Hag, Off You, Gigantic (w. Joey), New Year, Cannonball, Safari, Empty Glasses, Doe, Tipp City, Pacer, Full on Idle, Happiness is a Warm Gun, Fortunately Gone, Iris, Forced to Drive, Divine Hammer...not in order, but I'm pretty sure that's all they played. It was a thrill to see Joey onstage; I've never actually seen him before. No new songs, which was a slight disappointment, but I can't complain about what they did play. Finally got a chance to have Kelley sign the Forced to Drive fanclub 7", which Kim signed for me 2 years ago.
for accuracy's sake, I want to point out that the photos posted just above show Joey and Kelley, not Kim... Kelley is not in the Pixies.
Even though I was there and can confirm that this was really a Breeders show, I've heard rumours circulating that it might have been Pixies show!!! Can anyone confirm this? Pretty exciting if it's true.
