Yes, no more petty arguments! This thread is for endless speculations, hollow expectations, and optimistic rationalizations only. Can one achieve the required level of guesswork when embroiled in the heat of battle? I think not. |

Back to speculation it is then................
How bout this off of ticketweb:
Thursday, April 1 at 8:00 PM The Breeders plus Lou Barlow / Har Mar Superstar / Max Cady / plus special guests at Spaceland, California - Southern
http://www.jackiefarry.com/raffle/ U.S.$25.00
So who are the 'special guests'?
If they only show up to the LA shows and not the SF shows, I'm going to be sad. |

Dear pixiesseixip (aka successfully annoyed hermaphrodite), Thanks for all the insight and giving me exactly what I wanted (a laugh and a rise out of you). Oh, and far as male or female, does it really matter? Either way, your original post was mean spirited and totally selfish. Now I don't need to make you look silly anymore, you do a good enough job yourself. And once again, to all those true fans out in Cali, I hope you do get a chance to see something special. Can't wait to hear all about it. As I'm sure any true fan that can't make the Winnipeg show is looking forward to hear from those going too. Kudos to all those fans who work hard to spread information and positive vibes about our beloved Pixies. The time is coming for all of us.... : ) Woo-hoo!

I'm starting to lose hope. I'm starting to think that this might "just" be a Breeders tour. Too many dates popping up. With at least 3 in LA and 1 in SD. I thought that Spaceland might be special as it was originally the only southern california show, but now I'm doubting it...bummer. |

Blimey, "band specified on ticket turns up and plays show, rather than band not specified on ticket" shocker. What is the world coming to, eh?

Regarding the April 1 Breeders, Seems like April Fool's Day would be a good day for something special.

No reason to go back to the same venue again, unless its for a different kind of show....
Argh, I hate this thread! :-)

That's exactly why the pixies WON'T show up on April Fool's day. It would be too obvious (using reverse psychology logic). |

Do you think that if the Pixies were going to do a surprise gig, they would do it at a charity event, and share the stage with other big names like the Breeders and Sebadoh?
I doubt it...I think it will be when we least expect it!! Which rules out just about everything talked about on this board!

on craigslist sf, there are some postings about tonights frank show. people who live near by the independent (club) said they totally heard the pixies practising last night. so who knows if its true or not and if they'll play tonight. some people said said they just praticed last night, and tonight is frank only. it's really been fun reading all the speculations for this frank and the breeders shows, so i'm off to see what happens tonight. i'll keep you posted when i get home. |

Why would the pixies practice at a club? How could that many people happen to hear them? From their apartments? From walking by at night? ....Sounds fishy....fishy, yes.... |

Where is a good place to find a hotel near Spaceland? (read: clean, nice, quiet neighbourhood)
Is something in Glendale (like a Days Inn or something) pretty good?

Kromkamp, staying in Glendale would be close by and probably a good idea. Granted it's a little bit boring, but you're just there to sleep, right. |

The neighborhood around Spaceland is almost completely residential. If you go toward Sunset Blvd., things get a little ratty in a few blocks. Check choicehotels.com for Days/Comfort Inn locations. There must be some in Glendale. The Safari Inn in Burbank looks kinda cool, but I've never stayed there. That's still only 10-15 minutes from the club. |

Last night Frank said the rehearsals are going well and that they are drinking starbucks. He then said that there was only starbucks near where they are rehearsing in downtown LA in an industrial park.
People in LA should be on the look out in downtown LA starbucks. |

Glendale or Burbank would be good. Boring is good - I'll cab it down to the fun areas.
The closest hotel I found is on Hollywood blvd, I assume thats a baaad idea though...

I used to live right down the street from there, and the Holiday Inn Express at 250 Silver Lake Blvd isn't too bad (and is fairly reasonably priced). |

Thanks for the tip, but its a little pricey for what I want ($100/night). A $60 Econolodge is fine for me. Theres one at the corner of Melrose & Vine, but again I have no idea how that part of town is. (Probably like Melrose Place :) )
How is it driving on the major roads around there (5,2,134,101) - I know the 101 is brutal during rush hour, but I'll be there on the weekend. Are there tolls on these roads in that area?

My wife grew up half a block from that Econolodge. It's not a bad area... maybe a little sleazy if you walk up a few blocks to Santa Monica Blvd (can you say "male prostitutes"?). A few blocks past that and you're in the heart of Hollywood.
There are no tolls on our freeways. At rush hour on weekdays all the freeways you named are affected, particularly the 101 and 5. We're talking parking lots. But you don't need a freeway to get from Hollywood to Spaceland. Besides, the show is on a Sunday and traffic will be okay. |

i've found Expedia to be very helpful in finding hotels. there's a feature where you can enter in the address of where you want to stay near, and it'll give you all hotels within x amount of miles..
don't stay in Burbank. no offense to BLT but there is nothing to do in Burbank. and i mean nothing. you may as well stay in Hollywood if you're visiting from out of town, and you can check out the freaks and whatnot.. at least in Hollywood there is some nightlife and stuff to do. though Burbank is home to the world-famous Ribs USA. but they're not open on Sundays so that won't help.
if you're only in for the night though i guess it doesn't matter.. staying in Glendale or Los Feliz would make it easiest to commute to the venue. as for hanging out, Spaceland is a cool place in itself, and fit for hanging out before/afterwards for drinks. one added bonus is they have a separate room where they allow smoking, indoors. a rare thing in LA and something to be savored (preferably over a Marlboro light and a Corona).
like BLT said, there are no tolls on our freeways, but he didn't mention the beer toll for out-of-towners. section 48217A of the California penal code. |

ps, i agree that the topic shouldn't be changed.. c'mon Sad Punk! where's that spirit of speculation we've come to know and love about you?
i, personally, would like to keep speculating..
here's my honest take: i think the Breeders shows at Spaceland and the Troubadour will be The Breeders and, in some capacity, Joey and Dave will make an appearance musically. either playing Pixies material or not.. the shows up North??? possibly (i don't want you guys to stop speculating), but less likely.. but i think Joey Dave and Kim are all good friends, so maybe Joey and Dave will go along for the ride to give audiences a treat.
the real speculation though is the April 1st gig at Spaceland. like shephard said, April 1st would be a pefect day to do something wacky. and, why play the very same venue two weeks later? when the fuck does that happen??
now i'm wondering if i should get tickets to that show too (sadly, on a weeknight) |

Not to rain on your parade, floop (keep the speculations flowing), but I think the second Spaceland show is some kind of benefit show for a rock promoter with cancer. On the ticketweb page they list "http://www.jackiefarry.com/raffle/" below the show. That might explain the second show in the same venue. Or not.
I think a Pixies reunion show may be more likely in Northern Cal because it might not annoy the Coachella (sp?) promoters as much, but that's because I am hoping it happens at Fairfax. |
