If Thrush Hermit reunited and opened for the Pixies I would be in heaven. For me that would be the perfect show. Maybe Joel Plaskett would like to open for them. Heheh. |

So far the word on the street is that there won't be any bands touring with them, and it'll be up to the promoters to find opening acts.

I feel like the biggest dumbass when putting up this suggestion, because I'm a youngin', but I think it'll be really interesting if they let a contemporary band that has been so much influenced by the music open for them (like Saves the Day). It's like when Superchunk and The Get Up Kids toured together (although this was entirely wrong, considering Superchunk OPENED for The Get Up Kids), but it's something seeing a combination like this going on tour together. |

British Sea Power?? You must be joking. They wouldn't know rock if it came up and punched them.
I agree with your criteria, but lets pick some bands that are in the same (somewhat) genre. |

Mountain Goats / Muses would be a lovely and beautiful thing to behold

I'd also love to see British Sea Power or Stellastarr* supporting. They're both excellent bands, I've been meaning to see live and I think they'd complement the Pixies very well. |

My inside source informs me that local bands will be opening for The Pixies during their warmup tour, and that they're mostly going to be playing European festivals. They're not doing that many headlining shows yet.

If you've ever seen British Sea Power live, you couldn't have possibly come to that conclusion. They rock with the best of them, and are original - 2 things you could say about Pixies. They are THE ideal opener.

Toadies. Yep, if Pigxies can fly, then by gosh so can Toads. Plus, that would free up Rev Horton Heat to perform as BuffaloBurger suggested. -roger. |

Pavement precedes the Pixies in my alphabetically arranged stack of cd's. It makes perfect sense. C'mon SM, make it a Pixies/ Pavement reunion tour!!! |

^ If Pavement opened for the Pixies, I would absolutely die. My two favourite bands of all time in the same show (#1: Pavement; #2: Pixies). |

Personally i can see a British based band that have worked with similar producers as the pixies and are friends. My vote would be a band called McClusky. but personally i think placebo could do a shock support( everyone knows they play a shit version of where is my mind) but lets hooooooooope MODEST MOUSE come back to london to support! |

Well everyone has an opinion. No I haven't seen them live, but heard their songs and I hear more Smith's-like meloncoly-type music than Pixies-like. I would say that StellaStarr are a bit closer to the mark.
It's really hard as most bands took the soft-loud element, or chord progressions but seemed to miss out on the man's vox. Granted I don't really like to hear a clone or protege band, but I also don't wish to see a band that doesn't really fit into the genre - I think I would prefer a garage-rock band opening.
Of course, there is always Iggy ;-)

How about a promoter organise a whole week-end with the following line-up: Friday: Mclusky, And they will know us by the trial of dead, Spoon, Interpol and headlining Frank B and the C's Saturday: Throwing Muses, Belly, Liz Phair (circa Exile in G'ville), The Cure and headlining the Breeders. Sunday: REM (circa Document), Sonic Youth, Pavement and THEN THE PIXIES |

I would second British Sea Power or Stellarstar* for the support slot but my ideal choice for the European gigs would be Sleater-Kinney. |

Well if the venue was big enough and as to who got tickets were irrelevant id like to see Calexico open for them. Or Flaming Lips. Or maybe...David Bowie and the Catholics ;) hehe, nah cant imagine Bowie doing Horrible Day for some reason. Trying to imagine who could take the place of Frank to sing his songs with the Catholics, thatd be a great way to promote his band...hmm...its a tough one! The ideal person in my mind would have been the great man Johnny Cash. Anyone else have a thought who could do a good job being Frank? |
