First option: No opener = more time for the Pixies to rip it up. I saw The Cure in 1996 with no opener, that means they played for over three hours = awesome! and for a special reunion tour, the Pixies are who we want to see, not some other band taking up time.
Second option: How about some people who have publicly stated that the Pixies were a an influence, for example the Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl once said he LOVED every single thing the Pixies did, and the Foos have even covered Cactus before.
Third: Just some really good bands i.e. The Dandy Warhols, Placebo, My Vitriol to name a few.
Four: Have each venue hold an opening spot contest for local or unsigned, trying-to-make-it band. It would be an ultimate dream for me to have my band open for the Pixies. |

alright you all suck the lack of obviousness (an exceddingly lame brilliance) of this, but Manitoba should open. It would be the grandest display of lame humour this side of manitoba himself. |

Trying to imagine who could take the place of Frank to sing his songs with the Catholics, thatd be a great way to promote his band...hmm...its a tough one! The ideal person in my mind would have been the great man Johnny Cash. Anyone else have a thought who could do a good job being Frank?
Calexico or david bowie!!!
Im going to Roskilde (Cause of the pixies) so there will be alot opening bands |

I don't think so. When I saw them supporting Bowie last year they were on for about 45 minutes. Admittedly, on their headlining tour last year they were on for nearly 3 hours, but that's different.

why not open with the martinis' song followed by david's magic show, then the amps, then frank and the catholics, then the breeders, then the pixies. it would be a work out for them at least?

At the DIY conference FB was asked if someone were to do a tribute album to him, who would be the best choice? He thought about this for a minute, and then responded "Tom Jones." I busted out laughing (and I was sitting in the front row) but quickly realized he was serious. He said that Tom Jones covers songs really well, so yes, he would be the choice. So how about it? Tom Jones and the Catholics? |

How about Burton Cummings for the Winnipeg show? Certainly he deserves it, for hosting the Pixies at his namesake theatre.

Well the music Gods could just add to the 2004 excitement and Pavement could be the opener. OK, now I'm just getting spoiled. But how about Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks? Something mellower but still possessing the Pixies sense of humor and indie cred.
Or to tone it down even further, but still keep it light and credible, The Mountain Goats would do. |

Bonnie "Prince" Billie is going to be the special guest and then the Pixies are gonna take the stage with steel guitars and banjos and do these creepy, slow and quiet versions of their songs and all the Fight Club kids will fuck off and go kill the scalpers they had to buy the tix from.......... |

I may have some inside info.I have heard from a close source to the band Mclusky that they are likely to support the pixies on at least one night at Brixton.Mclusky have recently been demoing and recording their latest album which was apparently sent to Frank and co and received well. I know that teh promoters organise the support but it seems like even from their point of view Mclusky are a safe bet, as they do well in London and have recently supported The Fall.
this is what i have heard folks; but to cover myself, take no notice if i am wrong |

Fucking Serafin. I thought they sounded like Placebo but shitter, if that's possible. And what made them really annoying was that I was in the toilet when Frank came on stage, and I said to a girl 'do you think he's on stage now' because I could hear lots of cheering. And she said 'I don't even know who he is, I'm just hear to see Serafin' FUCK OFF THEN!!! And they gave out fucking stickers...

The Foo Fighters supporting is an awful idea. I'd rather eat my own toenails than watch that completely overhyped bunch of talentless pricks. *ahem*
I'd like to add my voice to those saying British Sea Power. It's be perfect.
However *BAD PLUG ALERT*, I feel The Rebecca Riots (www.therebeccariots.com) are the band best equipped to support the Pixies. |
