Can't think of any either, but we do it in France too. We also have a bunch of popular expressions coming from the Asterix comics (like "he fell into it when he was a child", referring to Obelix falling into the magic potion and becoming superstrong. Well you probably have never heard of Asterix & Obelix, so forget it).
Denis - Asterix rules. The books are pretty popular in the UK, though with English translations. It's wierd that it's still so funny, 'cause a lot of the jokes are dependent on language. The druid for instance, called 'Getafix' in the UK books, and the Chief, called 'Vitalstatistix'. What are those characters called in the original French versions?
The Druid is called Panoramix and the chief is Abraracourcix, but I couldn't translate this joke. I wonder how they translated into english "Asterix In Britain", it's one of the best but it's full of jokes about the english language (for instance, they write the names of the pubs in French but put the adjective before the noun, whereas it's the contrary in French - the pub's called "Le Rieur Sanglier" (the laughing boar) instead of the correct French version "Le Sanglier Rieur"). The english chief is called Zebigbos.

Mereubu, you can create an allowance account at iTunes, which works similarly to a GC, I imagine. Have you checked whether the minimum for an allowance account is lower? |

Great ep. I like all four songs, especially the keyboards on Show Me Your Tears. I hear the Shrimp Song's influence on Preacher's Daughter. Good stuff! |

Does anyone know if you can burn the AAC files to a CD or not? I want to see what the highest quality is that I can burn to a CD of this EP. I think I heard something about AACs not being able to burn to a CD. Will I have to down-grade the AACs to MP3 or something before I can listen to them in my CD player??

If you have Itunes you can burn AAC(M4A) files just like MP3s. |

I asked our beloved Sarah about the possibility of a regular release. Here's her answer:
"At the moment these songs are only available on iTunes. I apologize that it's not yet available outside the US, but right now the songs have only been licensed for iTunes exclusively. I would guess that they'll probably turn up in another form some time down the road, but there's not a release currently scheduled for them."

Frank & spin art should put together a little cd of all the b-sides from all these Show me yer tears singles, plus these iTunes tunes. That'd be nifty. I'd be big into that. They wouldn't even need to make it a general public thing, just limited edition of 2000+ to FB.net members. |

Bloody iTunes - they're just trying to promote their i-pod and take over the world - like Ronald McDonald.
If anyone has managed to download these and burned on to good old-fashioned CD and would like to do a non-profit making swapsy - let me know please.

I was able to purchase and download the album, but for the fuck of me cannot get it burned to a CD. I hate I Tunes. Anyone willing to send me a burnt copy in exchange for shipping and burning fees? I can show you my proof (the useless fucking m4p files) that I downloaded them. |

I couldn't burn it to CD either, so I just recorded it into a sound recorder (WAV) and burnt it like that to CD. |

I've burned and ripped and re-burned these songs in WAV format, so if anyone's interested in a trade, gimme a holler. My list, as always:

Contact me at tworeeler@yahoo.com
One caveat: due to several bad trades I've experienced (a few with FB.net members), I expect people who contact me to send first. PLEASE be sure your burner is working. And PLEASE don't burn on crappy, generic cd-rs. And PLEASE record disk-at-once. |

For anyone who's intersted, here's the lyrics to all of the songs. There's a few words I didn't know if anyone would like to help out or give any corrections:
Show Me Your Tears:
Now that you are standing here I feel a little weird I start to brood and sneer I gave you all I can I used to be your man I could beg but I demand Show me your tears (3X) Come on where's your heart man Show me your tears (3X) Come on where's your heart man Show me your tears (3X) I puked my guts And you gave me a cheer You said give me more If you really can Show me your tears (3X) Come on where's your heart man Show me your tears (3X) Come on where's your heart man
Preacher's Daughter:
I knew a girl with four feet of hair And her eyes they actually did shine bright But she wouldn't have some vin ordinaire I was nearly just out of her sight
CHORUS: You can't ever change her mind No you can't save the preacher's daughter And the lord knows I've been tryin' every day I will never get through to you Ah but honey if I do I'll be singin' all the way I'll be singin' all the way
Days in the sun they made her skin brown And she grew up just like a rattan(? I think this is right) She got so high and I was so down She wanted a much taller man REPEAT CHORUS I knew a boy who lay in the field And he thought of another time But now here I am and I can almost feel Her legs pressed up next to mine REPEAT CHORUS I'll be singin' all the way
A Dab'll Do Ya:
Seven rough seas They watched over me Seven rough seas And when I washed up I gave it just one drop A dab'll do ya Seven lovelies-A dab'll do ya They watched right over me-A dab'll do ya Seven lovelies And when I washed up I gave it just one drop A dab'll do ya (4X) One just for my honey Two for Mexico One just for my honey I'll give you three drops You're ?___________???(I have no idea what he says)
Don't Clip Your Wings:
Now here comes sonny Jim See he's raised up from the dead Guess I'll end up just like him someone said Always leaving town And all that kind of thing Darlin'
CHORUS: Don't clip your wings Don't love the ground Don't clip your wings 'Cause I'm sure to let you down
Now I think of Cleopatra still te queen of the Nile Barring her disaster You got her smile Now I hear the sound Of a goddess start to sing CHORUS 2X

For everyone that is having a difficult time burning from I tunes, I think Ive found the problem, at least for PC's. Itunes only supports certain burners, internal and external. Here is the link that might shed some light http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93360. I could be wrong, Im reading this at work and you know how that goes. |

...though he loved to rock and roll... http://www.bagleytree.com/index_000002.htm...I, myself, am trying...

I've been trying SoulSeek everyday for the past few weeks with no luck. I've entered stuff like "frank black don't clip", "frank black daughter", and "frank black itunes", but nothing is ever found. What search terms have you been using?

For the record, I think the tunes on this ITUNES EP are far superior to those B-sides on the second Nadine single (Snake Oil, etc). Show Me Your Tears has a weird, spastic organ a la Question Mark and the Mysterions; Preacher's Daughter, though another country-tinged number, is definitely more Dylan-like than the supposedly Dylan-like stuff on SMYT; Dab'll Do Ya has a pretty kick-ass riff and has FB dusting off his rarely-used scream of yore; and, well, Don't Clip Your Wings is pretty cool too. I was impressed, so it's worth searching for. Then again, I didn't have any expectations, so... |

Try searching for Show Me Your Tears and see if you can find the individual song, then do the browse user's files thing and see if he has the rest -- it worked for me when I tried

I may as well review these:
1) "Don't Clip Your Wings" -- Is that harmonica-via-keyboard 6 seconds in, and scattered throughout? Whatever makes that delightful sound, I love it. And the background vocals! Man, this type of background vocals takes me back to the sounds of Frank Black and the Catholics. This song is great; it really gets in your head after a few plays.
2) "A Dab'll Do Ya" -- Yes! Groove out, Frank and friends. A good, locomotive bass riff. I really like the way Frank calls out that chorus. Awesome, awesome ending (the last 45 seconds)!
3) "Preacher's Daughter" -- Reminds me a bit of "A New England" by Billy Bragg (and covered nicely by The Groovie Ghoulies). A really pretty bridge; I dig that harmonica/piano mix!
4) "Show Me Your Tears" -- Wow. I can so see this on Teenager of the Year. Really punchy. Rocking keyboards! Love the "I puked my guts" line.
Bottom line: This EP is amazing, and blows the other SMYT b-sides well away. There's no reason at all these songs should have been scrapped (although "Show Me Your Tears" ironically might sound out of place) for an internet only release.

By the way, I have a question: what's the correct song order? Is it SMYT/Preacher/A Dab'll Do Ya/DCYW or the contrary?

A few things for those of asking about burning AAC files and what not. Itunes allows you to burn them directly to a CDR through itunes with and internal burner. It does everything at once, the conversion and the burning. Here's the catch, you can only burn it to a CDR 10 times and then you're done. You can take that CD however and put it into say MusicMatch like I have and pull them off as MP3s or WAVs. Then you are free to do what you want with them. |

It took me the entire weekend to find and download these songs but I finally got them... Great tracks indeed, especially DCYW and SMYT. I really wonder why they were cut from the LP. They would have been good b-sides, at least. |

I just wanted to pop in and say thanks to everyone who's purchased this EP on iTunes. I understand that it's been really frustrating for a lot of people to whom it hasn't been available, but I also know you're all pretty good at working out ways to be able to hear this stuff regardless. It's super frustrating that iTunes is still a US-Only thing, but making it worldwide involves a lot of licensing nightmares so I can't say I blame them at this point.
That said, one of the best things for us about releasing this via iTunes is that it shows that iTunes is really starting to pay attention to indie labels. that's a *big* thing, especially in the state of music right now where a LOT of bands/artists are doing better on indies than on majors. There are still lots of areas in which majors get treated more seriously than indies, and the success of indie labels on iTunes is hopefully an eye-opener in that regard. The great response to the Frank Black EP on iTunes has not only furthered it, but made iTunes more willing to work with indie labels like us - they're all about us doing exclusive stuff. So far we've been able to do a live Richard Thompson EP and preview tracks from the new Church and Paul Kelly albums (an idea that I *really* like - a high profile, easily accessible, legal way of getting good quality versions of songs from an album you've been waiting for before that album comes out.)
So anyway, thanks!!! If that was incoherent blame it on the drugs I'm on from having my wisdom teeth out yesterday. |

Hi Sarah,
will the itunes tracks show up on the "new" frank black material mentioned for an april release? Are you able or willing to provide us with any additional information? Will it be a live album, Frank Black "Black Francis" pre-pixies demos, or are we talking about new, unreleased material? Thanks and thank you Spinart for working with Frank Black.
