Listening to HC in reverse order makes you realize how strong the last 9 songs are (first 3 songs are weakest in my opinion) |

Funny that, because in my opinion I'd say they make up 3 of the 5 strongest songs on the album, along with 'Um Chagga Lagga' and 'All I Think About Now'. |

It's so interesting to see how divided we, the forum, are concerning the 2.0 songs.
I can't remember which song won HC Survivor, but I'm guessing the votes were not unanimous |

I'm gonna vote for Head Carrier. I've no particular dislike for it but it's surely not going to beat any 1.0 Pixies from here, and I can't think of any Catholics albums I'd want to see go before it, so it might as well be gone... |

Indeed it's curious how little consensus there is between us all. A quick search shows we did a Pixies 2.0 survivor in which whittled down the songs to just 9. They were: 'All the Saints', 'Baal's Back', 'Classic Masher', 'Head Carrier', 'Magdalena 318', 'Oona', 'Plaster of Paris', 'Um Chagga Lagga' and 'What Goes Boom'. |

Voting for Pistolero. Tremendous energy, but most of the songs have always sounded uninspired to me. It's a fun album to listen to, a few excellent songs, but it always seems to lean a bit too much on the energy of the performances/recording and not on the usual brilliant songwriting. Maybe it's Rich Gilbert's guitar pyrotechnics that have always rub me the wrong way and are in full display on this one?
There is still a tiny thread of sanity in this world, so I'm rooting for The Golem to keep going for a few more rounds.
Didn't realize people here were so fond of those Catholics albums, particularly the not so great ones like Pistolero or SMYT. |

Doolittle, then the rest of 1.0. Listened to 1.0 for a few years before I was like, “Hey, I wonder what ever happened to that Black Francis guy...” and found out he went by Frank Black and was still doing stuff. This would have been roughly around the DITS release.
Or do you mean which Catholics did I hear first? DITS

This is hard now
Although I find Head Carrier more satisfying as a whole than FMRM, there are more songs on FMRM that I wouldn't want to live without. So...Head Carrier |

I'm going with FMRM (but I'm putting a £10 side bet on it being SMYT) |

One of the good things coming out of this exercise is that I'm listening to entire albums again from beginning to end which I don't do as much as I used to.
Just listened to all of SVN Fingers, and man I have forgotten how good this whole little thing is.
Seven Fingers the song might now be my favorite out of the whole bunch.
So I'm probably leaning toward voting off one of the albums from the back end of the Catholics' catalog. Sorry Pope Francis!
Or maybe even Fast Man Raiderman. I'll decide by tomorrow.

Lovely language. Out of what's left, I would listen to all the others first ahead of it. I don't think it's a terrible album - there are at least four songs on it I very much love - but there are a few clunkers and it doesn't flow as well as some of the other 'weaker' albums that remain. |

"Why do you hate me? why don't you just simmer down?"
Seriously though, I listened to Pistolero this week and I definitely would put it in the top half of the Catholics work.
I'm voting FMRM. Love it very much, but skip lots of it.
Update is:
FMRM - 2
Golem - 1
Pistolero - 1 |

Pistolero.
It only starts to get interesting for me when 'Western Star' comes along. 'So hard to make things out' kind of sums up the album, lots of energy, but not much inspiration in the songwriting.
FMRM is all over the place but, hell, how could it not, with 27 songs. It has so many examples of FB's inventiveness, though. Plus, the producer was Jon Tiven! He's to fault for everything that's wrong. Global warming? Wouldn't surprise me if Tiven was somehow involved in that as well. |

I will grant you this. But once Western Star comes along, it's THE SHIT from there. So Hard To Make Things Out is four songs in one! Billy Radcliffe was the first boy born in outer space! (Little known fact). 85 Weeks it's crazy maybe. Love this album
Not sure what to vote for. Got a few days still |

Okay I might be in the extreme minority here, but I’m going with SVN fingers. Not because it isn’t great relative to the others - it is. It’s just not substantial enough when I stack it up against what’s left. 7 songs, 20 minutes, and one of those songs has a much better version imo floating around.
It’s just too bite sized compared to what’s left, except Come On Pilgrim, but... come on.

No you're not!
I forbode thee.
