It truly is the last stand of Frank Black's imperial era. |

The midweek update is:
Cult of Ray - 3
B-sides - 2
Devil's Workshop - 2
Golem - 1
NSE - pot
I changed my vote from Ray to Devil's Workshop (a fine FB&C's album, but can live without it).
Thinking about changing again to B-sides to eliminate 2 great albums at the same time. Dancing the Manta Ray and Baily's Walk should have kept B-sides around for a while longer.
2 days left to vote this round |

Cult of Ray. The album that left me wondering if FB could actually be just another human.
B-sides is full of gems, DW has 'whiskey in your shoes' making it the best album of all time by any artist, ever. |

Fully agree. Whiskey in your shoes is one of those songs that as soon as I read your post I had to go and listen to it. |

I may consider changing my vote to a plus vote for DW; a tactic to help eliminate as many Catholics albums as possible now to hopefully give 1.0 an advantage over the inevitable final showdown. |

Ha! This changing votes thing after you know the current tally is strange.
I don't think Devil's Workshop had gotten even a single mention through 12 rounds, then it pops up and others jump on it in order to save their favorites, which will then likely end up getting voted off the next round anyway. Odd. Not changing my vote...(this time!)
I think Dancing the Manta Ray and Bailey's Walk are what got B-Sides this far, not what should keep it around longer. And I always liked DW better than BLD anyway |

I'm going to make a motion that it be made official that you can't change your vote after casting. That's kind of silly. I've been operating on the assumption that once you post your vote, it's set in stone (as votes usually are).
If we go down the vote-changing rabbit hole, shit is going to get insane as we come down the home stretch. Insane to the point of invalidating the whole thing.
Not that this exercise matters at all in any way whatsoever, and it's really just a fun way for us remaining forum diehards to keep the dream alive, but I'll bow out if it we fall into that kind of anarchy.
I had a bad reaction to your public hobby writings. |

Oh and btw, Devil's Workshop is an underrated gem. I have my beat-to-hell copy that I got Chuck and the whole band to sign at the Belly Up Tavern after an unbelievable gig back in '03 I think it was. It's a grower. Very much it's own, unique thing in the catalog.
Things are going to start getting hairy real soon, but there are some obvious sure fire candidates for The Boot before DW makes the cut from my perspective. I think there are five clear cut choices that should go before DW...

REGARDING THE CHANGING OF VOTES:
Here's one way to look at it:
Just like in the real world, there is an election "day" on which we vote.
At the Frank Black Forum's "Can We Do Album Survivor?" exercise, election day is every Friday.
What we do from Saturday through Thursday is campaign.
The final vote tally, the one that is counted, takes place on every Friday.
The updates throughout the week are like opinion polls.
It's like when people realize that the Bernie candidate they had been supporting for months has no shot of winning, so they begrudgingly change their vote to Hillary, because that's a better choice than what's left.
Or
If we wanted to, we could make it so that instead of "voting" during the week, we all limit our use of language to words like, "support, rooting for, leaning towards, want to happen," etc., and then we all say on Friday, "I vote for __________."
In any case, I think the discussion from Saturday to Thursday is fun, healthy, and it's also an opportunity for me to change your mind and you to change my mind.
Any way, who cares. |

I fully admit that this was my experience as well. (Actually, track 5 on TOTY was the very first time I thought this.)
But Ray truly grew on me over the years to become one of my favorites.
I totally get most people don't feel that way. |

Love DW. Just happen to like a lot of other things more.
Of course it makes sense that Ray and B-sides would go before anything official from 1.0 or FB&C's. It will be really interesting to see how 1.0 and FB&C's fare in head to head combat. |

BLD, DW, SMYT, and FMRM are all on the same level for me, so I'll probably end up voting one of those.
Pistolero is superior to the above four in my opinion.
I listened to all of Golem again yesterday. Brilliant. It will be a little while before a cast a vote in its direction for sure. |

B-Sides. Of that remaining list it’s an easy no doubter for me. I think I’ve already waxed poetic enough on why.

I'm concerned that we may have wasted a lot of our good bants already on the dregs of the barrel?
The real battle of the eras is about to commence. Odds on favourite for Come of Pilgrim to win, with Surfer Rosa, TOTY and SVN FNGRS also hotly tipped to win the title.
Saving my vote until the last minute in order to vote tactically to hopefully save B-side, if it needs rescuing from you lot of B-sides haters.
B-sides is the only one to have The Dave Song on it, and it's about Debbie Gibson and Dave Lovering's slightly creepy chants with her. I liked her too, but I was also 15 at the time.

Come on it's a good B-Sides compilation. Nearly all new songs/not on the main albums, not too many cover versions and no live version. It's it's own album in it's right and better than Head Carrier! |

Fuck it. I'm going for an unvote again this week: an album that wasn't even in the original line up^!""!^
25 years of the forgotten Doolittle Peel sessions gets my negative unvote back this week.

I believe the writing may already be on the wall for the eventual 1.0 vs FB showdown if we can't even get rid of B-Sides before gems like Ray and Honeycomb. Now we're talking about Golem and Pistolero...!
I mean, I like B-Sides, but at this point it's past time to put The Thing In Heaven
Voting B-Sides
