Just to make sure I don't forget, I'm reminding everyone again that I will be in Detroit for about a week starting Wednesday and will also be busy here getting things ready before I go, so if I don't answer your emails right away, or messages here, don't be alarmed. I expect a bunch of names so I can start the voting as soon as I get back, because we need to get our artists going. Also, for those that haven't emailed me yet, I'd better have an email waiting for me when I return. I'm going to get a list with band names and everything up when I get back, and if you're not on there, well, lots of people will start giving you dirty looks.

Everyone should've started work on their track by now as we're only a month away from the deadline. I've already got a few completed tracks, so, although it's not a rush yet, I hope everyone has a plan for getting done by Dec.

And it'd be nice to see a few more progress reports here. A few of you I haven't been in touch with at all since we started this.

Well, it looks like my plan of having a full horn section on "Holiday Song" are unrealistic. I've got too much going on with my own album and producing/engineering to orchestrate that (pun intended.) I'll try to get something though, by the seat of my pants...

another progress report... it's coming on okay (i'm amazed). got an acoustic guitar track down (which i might re-do, might keep it on but turn it right down, it's not quite right in parts, might sound cool in the 'wall of sound' though), got my main vocals down, which are okay, i've tried to yell them a bit like the original, but it's still tamer. got some backing vocals too, which are mainly previous vocals that didn't work out! going for a kind of where is my mind vocal layer thing, i think! i've kept the middle bit in the song 'low broke hearts' I reckon it says after listening to the purple tape a lot! anyway it's a little different on our version. drums sound ok, might add more reverb or something... need to get bass track down and female backing vocals (my girlfriend's domains), then lead guitar... i'm really enjoying it, but very nervous about how it will compare with everyone elses efforts!

damn, sorry for the long progress report, got carried away!

I recorded rhythm guitar and what I think will be the last take on lead. I decided to do the bass pedals on my organ for bass guitar and it turned out great and I recorded a little organ riff during the verses. Sooo...the only thing left is vocals which will be the hardest part

- here is my idea for a title: "We Tried Hard...".
- sended you an email last week ,Dean, didn't get any reply - but assume it's all ok.
- went to FB&Catholics-concert yesterday, (great); after the show I said hello to Frank and told him I was participating in the pixies-cover project.
He seemed to be amused, promised to listen and wished good luck!

An Update of Kirk.....& Charith

I've been coming up with all the chord substitutions I can think of for "Wave of Mutilation." Turning the song from 4/4 to 3/4 has been a fun challenge. I'll be working on the song tonight with a drummer, since I envision drums adding to the dynamics greatly. I have it all in my head, and hope to make it as good as I imagine on my recorder by the end of next week.

Charith, my wife, is doing "Isla De Encanta." The kick-ass thing is: it'll be a bossa nova. A bossa nova, female voice, singing about the island of enchantment... sounds like a good idea to me.

Progress report...

I've recorded the rhythm guitar for Hangwire. I'm working on finding a good mixture of effects for the lead(s), though. Still can't find what I want...I'm getting there, though, haha.

I've got a really sub-par version of Where is my mind recorded...just for kicks...I *may* send it in as a b-side...I'm going to record a lot of other pixies songs soon, though..so I may send in a couple of b-sides, if that's okay. Thanks.

Progress Report:
Started AOTW, working out the beats and hope to finish them tonite.
So far the direction is what I'd describe as aquatic.

As for names I was thinking something like:
"The Mother Lode" from Dig For Fire.
I found that interesting because I just realised that they spell it LODE rather than load. The definition of lode is as follows:

1 dialect English : WATERWAY
2 : an ore deposit
3 : something that resembles a lode : an abundant store
It's like hitting the jackpot so to speak.
Just an idea.

Subbacultcha is done!
just let me know how to send it to you..

my name suggestion "we tried hard" is from "motorway to roswell" of course - like it because
1. short
2. similar to FBtribute-name
3. bit ironical
4. but also true
well - just in my opinion anyway..

Progress report: AOTW
Almost finished. I think it's much better than I could stay here
but, I'm sure there's plenty of time for me to screw it up.
It's faster than the original, lots going on in it. I'm pretty happy with it.
I don't think I'll give it to you right away COF.
Also, I was wondering how many songs are finished.

Alright, I've gone through the lists and chosen the five that seemed to arouse the most interest/that I like. If the one you really wanted isn't on there, feel free to pipe up, this is a group decision and not mine. They are listed only in the order they came up in the list I made and not of preference. Also, I threw Wave of Tribulation at the bottom as I thought of it while away and it might not be a bad name since it hints at the waves of people getting involved with this and the toil that goes into making one of these tracks. We'll start the voting tomorrow so people have time to discuss/add any titles that they really thought were worthy so that the selection process is a little more fair. This got left to long, though, so I apologize for using my considerable bulk to push it through a little bit. :)

Debt To The Pixies
Talkin' Sweet 'bout Nothing
Fool The World
Rock Music
Hey - A Pixies Tribute
Wave of Tribulation

Other honourable mentions:
Rock Me, Joe
La La Love You
We Tried Hard
The Mother Lode
Waves of Mutilation
The Sad Punks

So give me your thoughts!

I think the "Wave of Mutilation" (by A4C) is supposed to be "Waves."

Assuming he means [Sound] Waves of Mutilation

Well, we managed to track 7 takes of Mr. Grieves last Sunday. Have not heard a mix yet since we had to bail, but the last few takes were pretty tight. We should have no problems making deadline.

Dean,
Sorry I haven't been around the site much lately - things have been crazy for me. I took the advice of someone on this board and started a bar band with most of the players from my "You Ain't Me" tribute submission. We're playing all covers, mostly obscure (everything from Little Richard B-Sides to Pixies tracks and NRBQ rarities).

Both of my Pixies songs for this album are slated to be tracked in the next two weeks (I'm down to the wire as usual).

As far as names for the album go, how about these, all taken from Pixies lyrics:

1. "Groping For Luna"

2. "My head was feeling scared, but my heart was feeling free" - That one's rather long, but I really like both the flow and the sentiment.

3. "In The Shine of The Ever"

4. "Blown Away"

5. "Repent"

6. "Let Me Tell You A Story"

7. "As Loud As Hell"

8. "Do You Have Another Opinion?" - I dig this one 'cause of the reference to each of us contributing our own versions of their songs.

Hope some of these can be included in the voting.

Talk to you guys later.

Well, Another Opinion/Do You Have... is pretty good, Blown Away is decent actually, and Grope/ing for Luna is a good one too.

It's time to get started on the voting. I've compiled a list of the ones that seemed to stick out, but you are free to vote for any of the ones that you particularly liked as well as explain why you like/don't like certain names and your choice for voting. I will not start off the voting in the interest of keeping things unbiased, though I will probably chime in once things are underway. So, let's get voting. Now! Voting's open to all FB.N members, not just contributors. May the most awesome name be awesome.

If I were taking into consideration the other tributes that have been made:

Death to the pixies - we're better
Where Is My Mind?
Tribute to the Pixies
Pixies fucken die!

I kind of like Mother Lode because it's lyrical and descriptive and not another "to the" title plus, there's a ton of contributors. dig?

talkin sweet is cool lyrics.
rock me, joe is cool, but it's not all about joe.
debt is good for the masses who may be more familiar with death to the pixies.
As Loud as hell is pretty cool.
Groping for Luna is just has a nice ring to it.
I also like all over the world because there's alot of people from different regions participating in this, isn't there?
decisions, decisions..
