I recorded a quick version (ala-how you went so far--tribute) of motorway to roswell and let me say, and I dont mean to boast, but it kicks major ass. I've also been working on some more original stuff, and Ive been considering putting some stuff on a website. Im supposed to get together with nate and joe today to work on the real version, but I havent heard from them yet. But if all I have to put into the tribute is this version, I think it would be good enough. But then again I think(and hope) that everyone is steppin it up a bit for this one, so I'll probably be workin on this one till the deadline. I guess nate has some ideas for the song too which is cool especially since he "GASP" isnt really a fan of the Pixies?! So that'll be strange huh. |

Neil, sounds good - definitely I think that after the last one we all are going to do our best to step it up for this one.
Chip, you're welcome to do Bailey's Walk as a b-side, pretty much everyone that downloaded the first tribute album also downloaded the b-sides, so it really doesn't make a huge difference. But that's up to you.
Everyone, I hope that you've all double checked to make sure you're on the list and I didn't miss your emails. I'm going to post the missed ones soon, so...

Expect some emails from me this weekend guys and gals, I shall start getting things a little more organized from this end. There will be a lot of familiar faces on this project, which, given how well everyone did last time, is great news. There are also bound to be a few little surprises which I happen to be privy to that should make you tingly in all the right places.
On that note, people seem to be more inclined this time to email me telling me how their song is coming along. If you wish to keep things secret, that's totally cool, but otherwise, post it here. Everyone needs to get a little bit excited about the caliber of some of the work going into this one.
For our part, Boom Chicka Boom is slowly coming; we're still trying to find that mix between straight up cover and a totally Asteridized version. I think I mentioned this, but the lead will probably be moving to a saxomophone. That's all I can share for now.

You should smash up your face before you record the track. That would be hardcore. It would make it more real for us listeners.

I'm doing "Where is My Mind" and so far it's coming along. I sent the "almost final prodcut" to Dean and he gave me a few ideas that I might use. It's a more laid back version and probably will not have any percussion in the final product. I use an acoustic guitar, electric, some keyboard (piano), and then who knows what else I might use. I tune down a 1/2 step on the guitars. The structure of the song is mainly the same but it's not exactly the same amount of measures than the original, and it has a different feel to it.
That's my progress report and I'm sticking to it.

I should point out in here that it's pretty awesome already and, Catholics aside, is easily the best WIMM cover that I've heard from anyone. It puts a lot of bands to shame, which probably means that all of us involved in this project are going to take some heat from the man, but I say bring it on!
Seriously, a sweet little cover. How's everyone else coming? Who hasn't started?
Oh, and I suppose that we should start getting this email list going. Please email me the following:
Your FB.Net member name. Your Track Your band name Your preferred email address.
And I expect to see more progress reports. I've been letting you guys slack a bit since it's Canadian Thanksgiving and all, but no more!

I haven't started, but that's ok. I usually don't need much longer than a day for a solo track. Hence the incredible quality!
When's the deadline anyway?

Deadline is Dec. 1, but I recommend not leaving it to the last minute. Even if it takes you a day, get it done, and listen to it every once in awhile, and maybe you'll be hit with a cool idea midway through November that really makes the song more awesome.
Mislead, I dig the sig.

Giving your song time to "cool off" can be a really good thing. After you think it's the final product, don't listen to it for a week, then come back and listen to it and you might have an epiphany to change something or add something. I'm basically reemphasizing what Dean said.
And I'm flattered you think my WIMM cover puts alot of bands to shame. But not better than the Catholics? I'm gonna have to disagree with you there :)
Maybe I'll send the WAV file to Frank and he can add background vocals to it.

thought I'd add my prog report! i'm doing i'm amazed (as some of you may have guessed from my posts enquiring about the lyrics in the 'middle' bit and at the end in the pixies area!)... well it's more of a cover of the frank acoustic demo of the song, as i like that version! most trouble so far has been trying to sing it, well the drums were a b*tch, were I think they work now. now i have to try and shed my soft singing style and let loose a bit on some shouting! bit worried about what the neighbours might think though, living in a flat! might have a few drinks one day and really go for it! listening to my 'demo' of it at the moment and like it. need girlfriend to sing backing vocals and put some bass on it... |

Yeah I'm planning to do it the end of October because then I don't have school for a week. Fucking school. Studying music doesn't mean you can actually PLAY it, people!

Ok, i need a little bit of lyric input for you all.
I'm doing Rock Music, but I'm not quite sure what the hell Frank sings after "Hey, you know me..."
Many lyric sites have listed the following line as "Encatuse" (supposedly Spanish), but I'm pretty sure that 'Encatuse' makes as little sense in Spanish as it does in English. In other words, I don't think that is correct at all.
I might just settle for my own personal interpretation of "And can't you see" ....sounds correct enough, plus it'll be shielded behind a visceral scream (yes, i'm going balls out...not doing a "mellow version" or anything!)
So...any suggestions for the correct lyric to Rock Music?

Haven't started... I'm waiting for an ocean of headaches to part so I can. I built a little studio out back and it'll be a few days before I can move on in. I'm in limbo at the moment but no worries...
Actually, I have done some sloppy rough drafts so technically I have started. |

Actually, I think he just repeats himself. Hey you know me, Hey ya know me. The second time it sounds like he just plays with it a bit, Hey ya knows me. I can see how you hear "And can't you see", too, though, or even encantuse.
I'll listen to some live versions tonight and see if that helps. You're free to sing that line however you want, however.

Bone Machine: Laid down ryhthm guitar, drums (steve west, also the engineer), bass, 2 tracks of vocals (out of like 10 million takes)... It's sounding pretty kickass so far. We're tweaking again nest week so...
The shout out to our member Thomas after I sing his signature is funny too.
Anyway, I am psyched. This is the best recording I have ever made.

I finally did the "percussion" for my track. It's not like a real drum set just some funky stuff I set up. I think I'm gonna use my organ that I just got, although I probably won't be able to do that much with it on this particular song. The guitar parts should be a piece of cake and I have to decide if it will be me or my brother on vocals. The hardest part of this will be coming up with a band name

progressreport on Subbacultcha: started last week and it's gonna be quit different from the original. Thought it would be nice to do some experimenting... BTW in 10 days Frank Black will be playing in my hometown (Turin - Italy) I'm totally exited! It has been 10 years since I saw a concert from The Man. ciao to everyone Grozio |

Brick is Red - the story so far... Spent a week recording the guitar and bass parts, giving the track an extended intro and disaster struck, the computer crashed while saving. Thankfully, the only things lost were the VSTi tracks and mixer settings. Spent another week salvaging the audio tracks and redoing the midi tracks. This wasn't a problem as it gave me time to reevaluate the track a bit. Having fun experimenting with the mixing at the moment. Just the vocals left to do |

I've got a couple of versions of "Planet of Sound," one in dropped C tuning (makes it even heavier--shades of nu metal--not necessarily a good thing) and one in dropped D. Only the holy triumvirate on this one: Guitars, Bass and Drums. Vocals, too, but that's the icing. I've enjoyed doing this cover, but it's hard to know when to quit tinkering sometimes. Cult, if you want to critique the tune in progress, I'd be happy for the feedback. Latest Band Name: Cookie and the Dale Nixons |

Cookie, send me an email and I'll be happy to give you my opines. Good to hear that some of you are making some progress. I've been listening to Boom Chicka Boom at work on repeat for the last hour and getting some ideas for sax lead stuff and maybe some Feldmanesque organ work. We don't want to take this tune too far from the original since there really isn't a great recording of it... yet.
The rest of you, how is it going. I've been getting some emails from people who want to keep things private, but I'm still missing the info from a lot of you on band name, etc. Please see my post earlier on.
