A report on Monkey Gone To Heaven. Today we are going to start on it. We are think of doing a more UK surf version of it. Maybe a little slower than the original. Most of it will be similar to the original though. I will keep you guys up to date with the progress.

A dongle is what you get when you buy the software, it's a USB plug that the software uses for security.

All i can say is don't buy software..i've had waaay more problems with the legit stuff than the warez..pretty crazy.

A usb plug? So like it's a key that has to be in the computer in order for it to work??

Cult,

I mailed you twice via this formmailer but haven't received any reply, so I'm not even sure whether you received my mails...?
I have uploaded my song to my webserver so I could simply send you the link where to download it from - to which adress should I mail you?

greets,
Martina

Strange, I've received nothing. Try mailing the link to airman-at-shaw-dot-ca. It should be 192 kbps but don't forget to keep the originals in case we need a higher quality version for mastering.

'Rock Music' is now done. It's a straight-up cover, no bells or whistles, just pure raunchy rock. The screaming is pretty balls-out too, I'm quite pleased with the take I did. I was thinking of trying a different 'version', but the whole beauty of that song is the short, sweet, and loud nature of it. Don't mess with perfection, I say.

Sad update: my keyboard was lying on my marimba, I tripped over the electricity cable, it fell and is now broken. As you may recall I am recording "I Bleed" using only the sounds that are in my one keyboard - currently none. Tomorrow or Saturday I'm bringing it to my friend's father, hopefully he can fix it, otherwise I'll have to bring it to a music store or an electricity guy or whoever...

DAMN

Even if you're Michael or Janet: it's a sad, sad planet.

I just finished my fart and burp samples, and hope to assign note values using my keyboard by tonight. I was inspired by that cute christmas song done with a doggy's bark!

I recorded the drums with a cassette four track in a rehearsal space and dumped the tracks into Pro-Tools. Kick, Snare, Overhead, and two toms. I'm probably going to have to replace the snare with a sample though because of a horrible ring.

I used a Radio Shack dynamic instrument microphone on the high tom and it sounds amazing. It's a little cylindrical mic with a rubber clip so you can clip it to the rim of the tom that supposedly contains the same electronics as it's Sennheiser counterpart, but in a cheaper casing. Radio Shack has discontinued them so if any of you find one locally, buy it immediately. If you don't like it, sell it to me... Other than that, AKG D112 on the kick, SM57 on the snare, SM58 on the low tom, and an AT4033 for an overhead. Sounds pretty good for a casette four track.

Glad I haven't missed anything in my illness. We're still on schedule to be releasing this at Christmas time, PixieSteve. And thanks for the updates guys, even if it's bad news.

I bought a new gateway switch that lets me do port mapping while still using NAT, but sadly it doesn't seem to allow FTP traffic through. I have no idea why this relatively simple procedure has given me such a headache, but I'm going to return it and buy the D-link equivalent, since I've already managed to get that working for Mike. Then I'll post that to you guys and we can start collecting those tracks. I just have to be able to walk/drive again so that I can get back to the store and exchange it.

I feel like another update! cover is almost done, i've done all my bits, loads of layers of guitar, mainly to make up for my (at times) dodgy guitar playing! lead vocals sound good, went for it a bit more, and even almost yelled at times! first time i've sung agressively like this, and it sounds good, thinking of re-working some of my existing songs now... but yeah, mr mike has been helping with the advice, and i think i've got this recording lark sussed... just need to lay down bass and female backing vocals... and tidy up the track a bit. clocking in at 2 mins, so hopefully that will go in our favour when the track selection progress gets going...

Monkey Gone To Heaven update: It should be done tomorrow. It sounds great so far. We decided to do it like the original. We kicked around the idea of slowing it down and making it a surf version but, we wanted it to rock hard. It sounds great and it isn't even done yet. Still have some eq's and tweeking to do. I'm very pleased. I will update more later with the specifics.
Since we will be done tomorrow, what do we need to do with the done product. How do we get it to the right person for the tribute album?

dean, about b-sides, i'm not doing or saying this to be awkward, i'm really not, but i was inspired, had a really good idea, and i've just recorded a cover of 'the thing' - and it's really good! would i be able to submit it as a b-side, even though the song isn't on the available songs list (i presume because of the happening) and even though i didn't put my name down for it?

- that's my sweetest smile.

Glad to hear we'll be getting a song from the Noise Man this time around.

I'm still arranging (sounds more professional with that word) piano parts for my song and I'm almost content. I've come up with some nice parts by spontaneously playing along with the song and recording it.

I'm still trying to work out a good bass part, whether with a real bass or keyboard voice.

I recorded the bass line for Into the White yesterday but decided it sounded like shit, and the whole song will probably sound stupid cause the vocals are very monotonous...so again, I might not record anything, but if I do it'll be Palace of the Brine. I have the day off tommorow...we'll see what shapes up.

For inspiration, everyone who is doing a song should check out the japanese pixies cover album, they do original stuff with the material, rather than basically sonically admit that they are not as good as the pixies, as where is my mind seemed to do a lot

I'm very excited to listen to everyone's productions, as for us, "I've been tired" cover has been recorded last week and in my opinion, it'll sound great. Now we're about to mix the song which is a bit complicated because each member of the band and the sound engineer don't live in the same town and have their respective obligations. But I'm shure everything will be done for next week and "I hope everything is all right" for everyone.
See ya.

OK, guys, you should now all be more than able to send me your tracks via FTP. Don't worry if you can't see the other tracks there or your track once you've uploaded it - I've turned off read so you can't download anybody else's.

Let me know if you have any problems, let's get these songs coming in. I also still have to hear from a few of 'ya via email.

Good luck in this final week. I'm going to start updating the list in the details section as people send their final versions or backing out.
