In two years nobody will care about any of this drama. The best way to support Kim Shattuck: Buy the new Muffs album when that comes out in a few months (supposed to be this spring) and go see the band if they play near you.
Looking forward to all of the above myself. |

That has to be the worst preview for a concert I have ever read. I mean it's so stand out bad, every one should read it!
But then the other thing I noticed is he's got a blog called Chipped Hip. Which explains a lot. |

Why do all music reviewers look like that dink? They will probably sell out the show and get a standing ovation, per usual. |

Cool hopefully this will be the Stooges punk album they planned on doing around Tromp Le Monde era. I hope the just get the spontaneity back again and churn the albums out. |

I recall BF saying, prior to new music being recorded, he would like Tom Waits to produce new Pixies music.
With this Joey interview it seems that by going back to what is called a 'raw' sound would be something that would work well with what I imagine a Tom Waits produced sound would be, ie uncompressed, sparse, breathable, natural and 'earthy'.
I don't know if the comment was to be taken literally as Gil Norton has done a great job imho. However, if the Pixies were to work with another producer I would be interested to hear Tom Waits take on it.
My personal preference to produce the next Pixies instalment though would be Nicolas Launay, I love the sound he has created on the recent Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds albums. |

Time to set up Mr. Francis' mobile studio. A Black Letter Day sound would suit Pixies just fine. Great write up by Bryan Parker. |

Ugh, just no. Those albums sounded awful.
Impressive for two track recordings. But they screamed "demo" and were hard to listen to. |

Do you mean in terms of sound quality? As the songs on BLD are some of FB's best. Never really thought about sound quality on the live to 2 track albums, I always thought it was pretty good for being, well, you know, 'live'. |

hmmm... interesting the Champ, I find BLD and Dog in the Sand to be creative peaks for Mr. Francis (St. Francis Dam Disaster!!!!! holy smokes what a song). DITS has a very deep and rich sound and BLD is little dryer, with a nice 'raw' punch to it. Now I admit Frank Black and Catholics first album does sound like a demo (which it was). Just my opinion though. That said, I really enjoy Gil Nortons' production on the new recordings. But also love the raw sound of Surfer Rosa.

Dog in the Sand is the best sounding FB& C's album to me. However they did it; the whole thing sounds great; that it's all live without edits is incredible.
Frank should get Kim Deal to produce a Pixies ep...

I am just talking about how it was recorded. Creatively, there are great songs on those albums, which is true for all of his work. |
