Just came across this detailed article with producer/engineer Gil Norton about some interesting technical details behind the recording of Doolittle. I hadn't seen this posted elsewhere, so I thought I'd mention it:

CLASSIC TRACKS: The Pixies 'Monkey Gone To Heaven'

Also, I found the listing for tons of similar articles on other significant songs:
"SOS takes you behind the scenes of the recording and production sessions of some of the most significant 'classic' tunes of the past 50 years... technical and musical facts and anecdotes from the sessions to create an engaging series."

I've always been confused as to why the entirety of Doolittle is slightly sharp (pitch).

Wonder if Gil has anything to do with it.

Thanks for posting, good read. Wasn't it mentioned somewhere there is an uber produced pop version of HCYM by Gil Norton that hasn't seen the light of day?

Another good article on Gil's albums including some of his comments on Indie Cindy that haven't read before.
