Joey always looks strange and a bit scared in interviews. In this one, he just looks happy. We're just not used to see him like that I guess ! David looks happy too. Maybe that's Switzerland fresh air... (and a little glass of Swiss white wine)

BTW: the thing he's constantly checking to his right is Black Francis.

I just don't get it. If they are hoping Paz will stay, this doesn't seem like it would help to convince her. Hopefully they are just saying the right thing.

maybe more than anything they're hoping Kim comes back.

but i doubt it. i get the feeling they're just trying to be diplomatic and know she wont even entertain the possibility.

which is a bummer. because Kim coming back would be the best.

The band have been saying that Kim Deal is welcome to return whenever she wants since their first official announcement a year ago. (Something like "she'll always be one of the Pixies" blah blah)

Nothing new here.

I get the feeling that Joe and Dave are actually kind of fond of Kim.....Charles, not so much. So, in other words, nothing has changed.

They've already said it though, as you mention, why continue to say it? Unless they know that Paz won't be staying around after the touring? Rather than search for another bassist, getting Kim back would be ideal. Hope Paz stays, as Kim seems to show no interest in the Pixies at all.

The chance of Kim returning anytime soon is zero, the Breeders are taking off again. I imagine she'd come and do an encore at a show, but Charles would put his foot down to her returning and giving them the run around.

Charles must think Kim is OK though. He totally put off doing new material for close to a decade because of her reluctance and kept her suggestions in the new Pixies music. He's also been very gracious in giving her credit.

Agreed, but he also knows how the fans of the band felt/feel about her. I just think he tried to make it work. I'd bet they are all pretty fine with the way things are currently. But of course, if Paz decides full-time Pixies isn't her thing, they'd be back at square one.

I hadn't considered that. Ouch. By all accounts she's an accomplished musician with options but she has a chance to contribute to new music that will likely be heard and talked about for years to come. That has to be appealing. Anyway I hope she sticks around as long as Kim is doing her own thing.

The Pixies touring/ selling records is a lot more money than the Breeders could ever wish to make. Kim is clearly happier making lo-fi garage rock and writing her own tunes. i personally hope they carry on with Paz, loving the violin on the stripped down versions of songs

She doesn't have the same work ethic as Mr Black which is a real pity.
She's a big fan of Cheap Trick and country rock, I'd love her to do something in the same vein instead of another album of tuneless dirge. A wasted talent

I believe that was the root of conflict that sprung up between her and Thompson. She's undisciplined, irresponsible....she never outgrew her spoiled teen brat phase. She loves the rock 'n roll lifestyle...traveling around, staying in nice hotels, etc. ..... that's why she's continuing with that dopey Breeders thing. Interest in the reborn Breeders will flare out quickly, and she'll be back to crocheting full time.

I love how 90% of Fissle's knowledge of Kim Deal as a person comes from a documentary that was filmed ten years ago (ie. the "crocheting" comment)
