I've noticed things like the song Miriam and Floriam opens with an instrumental bit from Bad News. Play the intro to track 2 then switch to track 5. and you'll see what I mean. I really love the (Bad News) opening to Miriam and Florian. It sounds like some weird harmonium or something. Those incidental things will be missing on the general release I guess. I'm really glad I opted for this complete 'book' version.

I don't plan on watching any on youtube. I've heard Bad News and absolutely love it. I probably wont watch the movie either not until Halloween or something. I'm not a fan of silent films, the music is what I want. |

Somebody tell me I've done the right thing by buying this! I haven't heard any of this material before...is it worth it?
"The arc of triumph"
Yeah, what I've heard is absolutely amazing. RE: the price - I was thrilled to see a $90 tag on it. Considering what you're getting, I thought it would be way way way more expensive. 5 discs, only 500 produced PERIOD, plus signed by the man. That's the kind of thing that will be pulling HUGE numbers on ebay in a few years (not that I would sell mine). I think it's a great collector's item for any real FBF fan. I mean, there's only 500 in the world!
Even with the lack of publicity, I thought for sure this sucker would sell out in a day or two tops, I'm surprised they are still available...

Hey johnny, I thought you wouldn't buy it? Didn't you say something about wanting a $10 CD/download rather than a $100 box set?

No I said I didn't want to pay several hundred dollars for something that seemed like it would never come out that I figured I would miss the boat on. Since there would only be 500 of 'em, I figured I'd miss the release announcement and they'd sell in a day before I ever even knew. Which would have been shitty. At that time we were, what, a year and a half deep into waiting and wondering what the hell was going on. And, I would most certainly NOT have bought it had it been priced at the level it probably should have been for an autographed ultra-limited release set. Why, don't think I'm worthy?

I pretty much got Bad News down a few weeks ago, trying to get the guys in my band to cover it sometime. Chords aren't odd, but the way its picked and arranged make it seem weirder than it is.

Nope, I've gladly forked over a small fortune to Mr. Thompson and his cause, and I'll continue to do so. Plus, I can draw better than pot.

Would someone be so kind as to post the CD tracklists or a weblink to them? Or even just a basic list of new BF songs that are on this thing? Thanks! |

Listened to all the songs in order today, I think it's a VERY strong record. Maybe that song that sounds like Pink Floyd's "money" is not that great, but the rest is all BF new classics. Very classy. The Golem could the bestof of a "just good" artist. |

My brother used to love fb as much as me, but over the past few years, since the end of the catholics, he's fallen out of love. I can't wait till this weekend when I'll be able to sit him down and show him the movie, so I can watch him and witness him remembering why he was a fan to begin with. He's gonna like this.

I agree Gary Lucas' experimental guitar score does the film more favors as a home viewing experience than bf's song sequenced score. BF's song score probably works best as an album in its own right or as a live accompaniment to a fim fest screening (I wish I'd been in SF that day).
I think Ralph Carney's horns in particular are at the heart of the score's success. He and EDF's keys have brought the shtetl to life in the music in way that isn't kitsch. That's an achievement in itself.

I know Charles isn't a dancing bear but I kind of want to start a petition to have him give The Cabinet of Doctor Caligari the Der Golem treatment.

Personaly I do find that horn a bit kitsch. Like the "Oh-la-las" and a few other things. But it's great kitsch stuff. Somebody said Roxy and that band could be the reference key for both the Golem and non stop erotic. Kitsch pop punk, dark and fun, sex and death.
