kfs just posted this in the YouTube thread. A classic baseball moment.

It would be cool if the Phillies and the Rockies make it in. Well, maybe not cool for all of us. |

Ah, 1986. I was 14, and a huge Mets fan. A quote and a YouTube clip:
"If one picture is worth a thousand words, you have seen about a million words. But more than that, you have seen an absolutely bizarre finish to Game 6 of the 1986 World Series. The Mets are not only alive, they are well, and they will play the Red Sox in Game 7 of the World Series tomorrow." -- Vin Scully

EDIT: And another. I'm going down memory lane a bit today. http://youtube.com/watch?v=3jv3uP1iKHU&mode=related&search=
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Oh, come on. Wilson would've beaten Buckner to the bag anyway. Plus, they forced extra innings, so that wouldn't have ended the game. Nobody can piss and moan like a Sox fan...

It's getting tight! Will Pedro stop the Mets' crash and burn? Will the Rockies win 11 in a row? The Mets, Phillies, Padres, and Rockies could all be tied at the end of the evening. |

Looks like the Brewers want to go home after Sunday, and all the while the Cubs are gift wrapping the division for them. Perhaps the Mets might want to take Ned Yost in a trade for Willie Randolph, then we can both blow it again next year too...

I just picked up tix for tonight's Rockies-Diamondbacks game -- two 17-game winners pitching tonight, and the division on the line this weekend. Should be exciting. We haven't had a sellout at Coors Field for years (except for Opening Day every year). This town's electric right now. I can only imagine what it'd be like if the Rox made the playoffs.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

I'm sort of watching Brewers vs Padres on TV.
Quick question from someone who knows nothing about baseball: how many batters have to be out before the other team bats, or it goes to the next innings, or something?

3 outs for each team. And each team gets a turn to bat during each inning. |

I have no idea who said this, other than myself every season: Baseball is designed to break your heart. The Rockies won 11 straight games, and needed to win three more this weekend to make the playoffs. I felt like they had a chance. Hell, the whole city felt like they would do it. So my sons and I went to tonight's game, and the game just slid away as it went along. Brandon Webb shut down the Rockies. He was really impressive. So the Rox lost, the Padres won, and the Phillies won, which means the Rox need a miracle now to make the playoffs. The NL races have been crazy the last week or two. It sucks to have your team completely fall out of the running in one night. I feel bad for Mets fans, too. That's been excruciating, I'm sure.
But hey, now I can go back to paying attention to more important things (like this forum) and not listening to baseball three hours a day and following my team into the playoffs.
Go Red Sox, I guess.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Coastline you gave up too early.
Sorry Brian. I remember in 2003 when the Sox blew game 7 against the Yanks. I had a day or two when I questioned why I spend so time on baseball when they can just rip your heart out, but I got over it. |

I think 2007 and 1969 are bookends. Amazin', both years. So sorry, Brian. That was a brutal collapse.

I have 1986, Game 6, on videotape, SOA. Come by and relive it, if you'd like. But not until after tonight's Rockies game. It's kind of a shame that I don't get TBS -- that means I won't get to watch the game. But in a lot of ways, radio is better anyway. Anybody else prefer radio to TV for baseball?

It takes a more talented broadcaster for radio, but I prefer to see the game live. |

Radio is good if it's Vin Scully, but so is TV.
For me baseball on the radio has a kind of romantic nostalgia to it, and is great to have on while you're doing something else like washing the car. But, if I really care about the game I prefer TV. This whole season I've been watching games on the computer using MLB.com. Overall, it worked well (and was much cheaper than the TV package), but if I wanted a smooth transmission I often had to wait until the game was over and watch an archived copy (which is easier anyways with kids). But even then the transmission could be jumpy and buffer right in the middle of critical pitches. |

Ha. I bailed on them again in the top of the 13th tonight before they came back and won it. I don't have the stomach for this game.

That game wasn't even on TV. None of the stupid ESPN stations even had it.
