I'm glad you can post again, fu. That's all I gotta say.
Ok, fine. On topic. Lemhouse is cuter and his album is more kickass and he has not posted anything here that's pissed people off. Anybody else got something?

Tiven taught Belushi to play guitar. He said so. (Or did I dream that? Can't find it on Google now.)
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Well, Tiven has really helped FB develop his sound last couple of albums, and has been there for him in deciphering business matters. Lemhouse did a superb job with Bluefinger.
that is just how some things do not materialize |

There was the Al Franken thing, for one. He and Tiven are buddies. Was it Erebus who didn't like FB associating with Franken (via Tiven) on account of him being so political? Am I getting that about right? That's just one instance where Tiven got in a fight with a forum member. There have been plenty of others.

Since we're hanging out our own dirty laundry:
Erebus expressed his opnion, yes. But Tiven repeatedly, and I am willing to extend the courtesy and say, without meaning to, alienated several board members by, among other things, urging fbnetters in what many of us found to be a condescending manner to support the album.
Water, bridge. But let Erebus be. Play either album and feel the Frank goodness.

What I know, is that when I listen to Honeycomb's version of I Burn Today I find it... boring whereas the unplugged/solo/live version rocks. I regret I will never hear a version produced by this Lemhouse guy.

Not really a fan of the nashville records. Don't know Tiven. Haven't listened to Bluefinger.
But a cowbell. This guy has to be one of the greatest.

I think they are both very successful at accomplishing very distinct sounds that reflect different artistic "periods" in FB/BF's career.

Fair enough Daisy. What is equally fair & enough (I guess) is that people can have a preference for either period and that is, in a way, undebatable.

I've had disagreements in the past with Tiven, but I hold to my argument that the Nashville albums sound very flat and lifeless in terms of production - especially considering the musicians involved - whereas Bluefinger is the most sprightly FB I've heard since, ooh, Doolittle maybe.

Honeycomb was a real grower for me. I really enjoy it and do like the production. I'm really glad Frank did Honeycomb as it opened me up to a genre of music that I never really cared for before...after Honeycomb I starting liking Wilco, listen to Bob Dylan more, and now I've been spinning Lucinda Williams. I tried giving Ellis Hooks a chance but it just wasn’t my cup of tea.
But BLUEFINGER!! WOW! I think that's the style that Frank does best. and I love the production. I read Mark's blog about working with Frank and then he made that cowbell reference— I'm thinking to the SNL skit with Will Ferrell, Christopher Walken, and Blue Oyster Cult! Now that’s a coolcat!

Hi Czar not arguing about people's right to choose but just simply that it's really not an apples to apples comparison to conpare Tiven to Lemhouse because their work is so different and represents two totally different periods in FB/BF's career.

Thanks Coastline. It's cool to look back on those archives and hear what people are talking about before Honeycomb came out. Can also see why JT is a bit of a contentious character around here. To be fair, the guy also gives alot of information about his albums. |

To be fair, it was always exciting to have a Jon Tiven throw down in here, Despite his repeated threats to say "bye" for good, he always came back and gave us the scoop.
You have to believe that in spite of his self promotion, he is quite a character and a big time Frank Black fan. Love him or hate him, he was a breath of fresh air to this board.

To be fair to JT, i don't think he was ever offensive at all. If i remember correctly there was a lot of people foaming at the mouth when he posted. Obviously he was trying to promote it, he had spent time working on it and was proud of it. I personally was not too crazy about fmrm, but i loved the sound of the real el rey and some others. This guy Lemhouse seems like a very talented guy, the record is full of energy and rawness, which i love. I take my hat of to Lemhouse and tip it to Tiven. |
