Compare among? Too wishy-washy for Tiven. Lemhouse might like it. It's no use we'll never get them to shoot at each other. The world's too big.

I prefer "Mr. Tiven."

Those who are actually innerested, four albums that I have produced and written will be issued later this year, and I hope you all have the good sense to at least steal if not buy them. They are, in order of appearance:

1)ELLIS HOOKS-ANOTHER SATURDAY MORNING
you know him, you love him, this is cd #6.

2)MASON CASEY-SOFA KING BADASS
blues singer harmonica player, Tom Waits meets Louis Armstrong

3)GARNET MIMMS-IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?
famed for "Cry Baby" and others, this is a non-denominational gospel album

4)BETTY HARRIS-INTUITION
the Soul Queen of New Orleans before Irma was, her big records were "Cry To Me" and "Break In The Road," this one features songs by Bonnie Bramlett, Bekka Bramlett, Jerry Ragovoy, etc.

bye,
Mr. Tiven

Classic Mr. Tiven.

Love the album title - reminds me of "A Ass Pocket of Whiskey" by the late R.L. Burnside. They were probably friends I bet.

That looks like a great run, mr T. Happy but not surprised to see Garnet Mimms added to your CV. Any Toussaint songs on the Betty Harris CD?

(You should produce Van Morrison; he needs some grease in his grooves nowadays.)

No love lost between Ms. Harris and Mr. Toussaint, so his songs didn't get considered.

By the way, I will be playing Italy this July with Betty Harris, Ellis Hooks, and Sir Mack Rice with a band (JON TIVEN & THE NASHVILLE ACES)containing several FB session men (Billy Block and Mark T. Jordan, as well as my wife, myself, and a horn section & two female singers). The dates are:

Perugia---Umbria Festival July 7-15
Porretta--Porretta Festival July 20 & 22nd
Sardinia--I'm not sure of the venue July 21st

So if any of you FB fans in Italy want to stop on by, it would be great to meet you.

bye,
Mr. Tiven

Dear starmekitten,

I will consider myself under citizen's arrest for thread hijacking.

Sweetheart, when someone starts a thread about you and pits you in a battle to the death against someone you never met and have no gripes with, you are thereby allowed to use all of the weapons in your arsenal. Self-promotion is one of mine. It is designed to drive kittens away, as I am unashamedly a dog person.

Who said you make the rules? I don't need no stinkin rules! I am a PO-DUCER!!!!!!!!

Or is that POOH-DUCER??? Sorry, base humor creeps in at this hour

On a serious note, I agree that you can't "COMPARE" one producer against another when the albums in question do differ greatly in style...a subjective thing, as is one's preferences in production.
I personally LOVED honeycomb, bar three tracks, although thought the production on sing for joy took from a great song. I was terribly dissapointed by Fastman Raiderman, mainly due to the production, where I thought great songs were ruined and made wanky and predictable. Bluefinger from what I've heard so far is more my cup of tea, FB always had sonic energy and it looked like it was in decline from Honeycomb on, but it's climbing steadfast from Christmass on.

Saying that, from personal experience Mr Tiven isn't a bastion of respect for FB Fans' subjectivity. I remember being asked to remove my thread announcing my disapointment with FM/RM by Tiven himself. Of course I did not, as a matter of principle, given this forum is for those who love the music of FB, not as a PR medium for those who work with the great man... Charles that is, NOT Mr. Tiven (in my opinion of course)

Besides, I'm cagey about people who call "unashamedly" call themselves "dog-people" ... I prefer "animal-people", it's less discriminatory, and I LOVE Kittens

Yeham I wouldn't exactly say that the thread is being hjiacked, when one of the title's subjects decides to list his current projects. It's not like Tiven started asking us what our favourite ice cream flavours were, or suchlike.

daisy made me think of a thought. a thought that was then cultivated by billgoodman and then by mixedbizz, though through a different lense.

producers.

producers and frank black.

they truly shape the album for our man.

albini.
feldman.
vincent.
tiven.
lemhouse.

frank went to these people for a reason. he saw they would help him achieve the vision he had for their respective record(s).

anyway...

i just happened to be listening to honeycomb an hour ago. while enjoying jameson on ice.

honeycomb is not a weed album. it's a whiskey album.

Whatever happened with this? This thread had a lot of promise. There was a little scuffle, and then poof, it fell flat. Can somebody insult Tiven again, please? Or can Tiven insult somebody? Obviously Lemhouse isn't gonna show up. I wish he would, though.

I'm not up for insults, but I can offer insight.

I cannot speak for any of the other producers, but when I make a record with Frank Black, my concern is to make the record he wants to hear. Any of you who have examined my other work can testify knows that I have a wide range, a little heavy on the blues and soul side, but I have an allergic reaction to any music which is not authentic. So I try to bring out that which is singular and unique in the artist I produce. At the same time, I have some discussion with the artist as to what kind of album they want to make.

I have my own distinct musical personality, but it only comes out as needed, or when asked. The four cds which I have produced and are coming out later this year (Garnet, Mason, Betty and Ellis) are all co-written by me, and are in four different genres (rock, blues, soul, and gospel). The reason I posted these earlier is because I thought it might be interesting for some of you to see what I do with other artists in other situations, and I admit with these four cds, my musical personality is far more pro-active than it is with Frank Black. With Frank I make sure everything is set for HIS musical personality to take charge, whereas with these other records it is a complete musical collaboration.

So if that's what you're looking for, you got it. Fire away. I can take it, I dish it back, you can knock me all you like but I know I brought some stuff out of Frank Black that he wanted to come out and I consider both albums to be great successes on many levels. It's not a competition. Those of you who are familiar with my earlier productions of said artist ("At The End of the World," "Hate Me," "Oddballs" and "Men In Black") know that I can rock as hard as anybody.

I'll be back.

Thanks Tiven. I could do without some of the board drama that seems to follow you, but, why in the world you are getting harrased by an overexcited mod is beyond me.

Actually, I can't think of anything more tired than a puffed up mod like we have here. Sorry you have to put up with such hall monitor childishness and thanks for continuing to provide insight and history that we would have absolutely ZERO access to without you.
