I came across this compilation CD while looking at The Polyphonic Spree webpage. I'm a huge fan of the movie and the fact that Bob Mould AND Frank Black contribute makes me want it huge, but I haven't been able to locate it in any stores. Is it worth ordering online?
Here's a link if you don't know:

I have it. It's good, but I bought it for the artists on it, not because of the Hedwig music. |

It is pretty good. FB's cover is very well done, as is the Spree cover. The Breeders' one is pretty decent, too, and Spoon's cover on there is, while definitely Spoon, not quite as fun as the original. And between his contribution on here and his Across the Universe cover, I've even started gaining respect for Rufus Wainwright. If only I liked his style of country...
Anyhoo, it's a solid effort by solid artists and worth having in the collection I'd say.

I got it off ebay for Frank, Breeders and The Bens song. Don't really care for the Bens. And only listened to those three songs. Frank's song is one of those long FB songs. |

Wasn't all the proceeds from this going to charity? The Harvey Milk school, I believe? And you cheat and go and get it off of ebay, thus deprived New York City's gay and transexual grade schoolers a segregated education. You monster.

It also has a fairly decent song by TMBG. I got it to hear Frank and the Spree. The sleater-kinney song is bizarre with the help from the guy from the B-52's. Forgot his name.
Frank really cranks it on Sugar Daddy. |

The Spoon song is a lot different from the film version, but they make it a great song in a totally different way. I really dig it. |

Yeah, true on the Spoon song. Compared to the original, like I said, not as fun, but as a standalone song it's good stuff. First time I've heard them use brass..
I don't really understand the appeal of TMBG, I really don't care for their stuff at all, mostly because of the vocals...

Blasphemer! You need a copy of Lincoln, stat! No one can resist its charms!
I don't listen to my Wig in the Box CD as much as I had hoped I would, but I'm a huge fan of the movie soundtrack and will always prefer it. Still, there's lots of good stuff on here and it's for a good cause. Also, Sugar Daddy kicks ass. Does anyone else think that Frank's version is oddly Gordon Gano?

I'll download it and give Lincoln a listen, but I'm not making any promises... :)

Cult, Flood is the true gem from They Might Be Giants, and their follow up to that, Apollo 18, is easily their second best.......in my opinion at least.

I'm just a dirty thief and burned my friend's copy. Sugar Daddy Rocks but I haven't really listened to it much even though I love the movie soundtrack. Dunno why. I guess I'm just not a big fan of Tribute albums, except the FB.net ones of course.

Frank's cover of sugar daddy surpasses the hedwig version i think. It really rocks and the guitar is sublime. |

I own it. I actually think it's one of the better compilations of various artistes that I know of. Though Frank's track is a highlight (and a lot of reviews seem to point this out, too, so this view might not just be the result of me being such a fanboy), I can play the whole CD straight through. I think everyone did a great job. |

Nothing rare, but they have Duke Of Earl and Bowie's Cactus up today:
More cover madness. |
