Thanks Denis.
Does anyone have word if we can buy it from the amazon FB store? (I forgot the link to that).
I would rather order thru that is that's a possible.

I think the official one will have a better chance of attracting new fans than anything I would come up with, which could be something like this (20 track limit):
1. Los Angeles 2. Thalassocracy 3. Freedom Rock 4. Two Reelers 5. Speedy Marie 6. Men In Black 7. Man Of Steel 8. Can I Get A Witness? 9. All My Ghosts 10. Suffering 11. So. Bay 12. I Think I'm Starting To Lose It 13. Western Star 14. St Francis Dam Disaster 15. Pan American Highway 16. Bullet 17. His Kingly Cave 18. Chip Away Boy 19. Massif Centrale 20. Manitoba

i agree completely, that is something i will never understand. bullet is by far one of my favorite frank tracks. sad to not see it on there.

Believe me. There will be a live version of it on disc 2. It simply can't be another way.

I'd love also a live version of "I'll Be Blue" from the last solo tour. I hope they include one of those - I'll never forget it. And Billy Block rules the skins. I hope he makes an appearance.

Don't know if the second disc will also be 1993-2003, because that would rule out any of the post-2003 shows, so no Billy Block

If It Takes All Night, 21 Reasons, Horrible Day and Preacher's Daughter should be on there. Fuck you guys.
Will any non-frank fans actually buy this? I have my doubts. Seems like such a filler release when all this great new stuff is already recorded. I guess it would be more exciting if I hadn't already heard Threshold Apprehension and Fort Wayne. It's so hard to resist leaked stuff.
The live/demos will be good, but I'm ready for some real new releases.

Yeah, I don't get it either. Who is this for?
I can't imagine what could be on the second disc that we haven't already heard that would be worth releasing. Does that make any sense? We already have Snake Oil and One More Road For The Hit, which I've listened to about once each. I can't imagine that whatever's left in the vault can be all that great.

there are two Best Of's coming, right. Let's have Snake Oil and One More Road For the Hit as the second discs. I would kill for those compilations on real cd's, mostly because I like some B-sides more than albumsongs.

Thanks Denis for all the info,
I've made so many compilations through the years. The "very best", "very very best", the "chill out, I'm on the road best", "Frank romantic best", "punk Frank". But I know that I will buy 93-03 ;-) mmmh, no b-sides tracks? "Man of Steel"? "village of the Sun"? Nevermind, the tracklist is ok for me |

According to the original mention here of a two-disc set, the second disc are live concert recordings and demos. I don't know how true that is, but in that case it would rule out b-sides. So one disc for the newbies, one disc for the hardcore. Sounds good to me.
As for who this comp is for, how many times has this forum seen a post from someone saying "Hey I really like the Pixies and I kinda dig that 'Los Angeles' song, but Frank has so many solo records that I'm not sure where to go next. What should I do?"* About 700 times, I think. THAT'S who this comp is for.
Also, compilations have a way of re-invigorating an artist's catalog sales. The compilation will be reviewed alongside new records. The post-Pixies career will be re-evaluated in the music press. Even some non-fans who don't buy the compilation will read the reviews, decide Frank's music sounds interesting, and maybe go buy Dog in the Sand or something.
* not to mention the number of times I've encountered this sentiment on other forums and in personal conversations with fans of the Pixies and/or dabblers in Frank's solo/Catholics period. |

Cool. I like that idea one newbie disc and one hardcore. :) I think the newbie disc will be a great mix and the hardcore disc... I can't wait to get my hands on it.

Yeah, I fully support this compilation. It should serve as a good introduction, and I think it's the best bet.
I'll be interested to hear what disc 2 comprises. Simply repacking 'Christmass' seems unlikely. |

I can't strongly enoughly stately how weak it would bely to put Christmass in as the 2nd disc of this compilation. Go with B sides or a live album. I am more interested in new stuff quite frankly and I'm ready for some Teenagerly stuff. If Frank is done with Teenagerly stuff, he needs to tell us so I can go start freaking out over the Silver Jews or something but I need to know where he stands. Go Mavericks.

I see no reason to think disc 2 will be Christmass. Christmass only started showing up in stores a month or two ago.
As the podcasts have shown us, there is no shortage of interesting demos and good-sounding live recordings in existence. It wouldn't surprise me if a few of the things we've heard in the podcasts end up on the comp. I'd be all for having that "Nadine" demo, for example, on an official release. |

How about a new release / new release? I'm getting very emotional about this. We need some TOTY.

Does anyone else think it bizarre that FB claims to hold Devil's Workshop as his favorite FB album, and yet he treats the songs on it like they dont exist?
Here's another case in point - the lone track on the best of isnt even an original composition from that era, but a dusted off pixies b-side!

What's that pixies B-side story? Isn't it Black Francis' next vynil single? Yet, what you say about D W is right and also works with all the albums after the first two. It seems the best of gives more respect to the albums that already had some comercial success. |

I'm surpised Velvety is on the best of... the Pixies version is better with no lyrics.

Someone just sent me the tracklist of the 2nd CD, but I'm not allowed to post it before Friday.
In fact, there will be two editions, each with a different tracklist. From what I know, all tracks are live - no demos.

That's a letdown for me if it's true. On Christmass I only listen to the studio tracks.

Hopefully they're live tracks with a full band. Might be just me but I've heard enough acoustic versions of stuff. With a full band it's a little more interesting to listen to. I'm just speaking for myself here, of course.

Nooon?!?!? Pas vrai? Come on, what's wrong with you? I bet you will vote for Ségolène on Sunday, too. Pffffft.
Ségolène... that would make an interesting title for a FB track, right beside Héloïse. |
