interesting fact (maybe), the pixies reunion was confirmed by MTV on 13th January 04, exactly 11 years after their breakup was announced on radio 5

Strictly playing the percentages, I would have guessed the Catholics work would have tallied a much higher count because there was so much more of it.

Very good! Well, 4AD has his big piece of the cake, but the choices from TOTY are perfect. And it's cool to have "I gotta move" and "Robert Onion".
But... (of course everyone has to complain about something)
-Black Letter Days and devil workshop seem to be considered as one single record as thay sum up only 2 songs. Comon they're very good records !!! To many Frank Black fans, Black Letter Days is the best record of all, I would have put at least 3 songs from that one. And at least one more from Devil's Workshop.
-"Hermaphroditos" is my skip key song in Dog in the sand. But maybe it's because I dont like at all the Rolling Stones ?
-"I Don't Want To Hurt You"... yes you do hurt me.

It's the only FB song I refuse to listen to. Like Grotesque says, it's a "skip key song." Anybody wanna stick up for that song and tell me why it's worth listening to?

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

It's hard for me to see a best of Frank record not having Chip Away Boy or I'll Be Blue. I would drop Velvety and Bad Harmony. What about Bullet?

i wonder who picked this tracklisting?
was it a frank thing - his favs (probably not) or was it purely a record label thing....
cause there do seem to be some obvious omissions...

I heard the catholics loved to play Hermaphroditos live.
It's so strange to have it and no Bullet, for example.
Not that I personaly think Bullet is the saint grail, but I've noticed that song catch a lot of people outside the circle frank black fans. Like, you know, "Black Francis fans".
"Hermaphroditos" make the same people say "What's that macho rock-a-daddy ?"
But maybe it's more honnest, like FB said in the press text, those catholic albums did have a macho side (and that's partly what didnt like the larger audience, more used to his crazy baby screaming and weird chord progressions).

I would have put "Billy Radcliffe" instead of "Bad Harmony", "His Kingly Cave" instead of "Velvety", and "St. Francis Dam Disaster" instead of "Hermaphroditos"....

hmmm, i think that track listing is poor. remember it's a BEST OF and is geared towards the potential fan. frank has dozens of better songs. not whingeing, just saying. i couldn't really care less, disc 2 is the reason most of us will be purchasing for anyway

I wonder if the new tune will be the Dead Man's Curve he already recorded with Eric Drew Feldman.

The set list is pretty much what I expected except I was expecting Nadine and not Manitoba.

Here I am for your judgement

Dead Man's Curve on the best of? And what about the album EDF is producing?

That's strange, because I felt the official tracklist was OK...
... though ANY of the fan tracklists wrote for this forum would have been better ! Without any doubt, this is the worst one. But you just can't make a bad album from Frank Black catalogue, even if you put both "I dont want to hurt you" and "Hermaphroditos".
So... no problemo. Any Frank Black song sounds bestof !

Am I the only one who doesn't see any indication of an untitled 23rd song in that listing at http://www.cdjournal.com/main/news/news.php?nno=14612 that 1965 posted?

It looks to me like it ends with "Manitoba".

I think it's a bit early to comment on the tracklist, since we don't know what's on CD2. I find it strange that Bullet isn't listed, but if there's a live version of it on CD2 then it all makes sense.

I think it's a good list. Best Of's can't please everyone. The only one I think is out of place is 'Velvety'. I think it's a great song, but there are better ones on DW. Still for a new fan, it's a good list

Results for the least successful contest ever on fb.net are in! And the winner is The Holiday Son who correctly guessed 13 songs out of the tracklisting. Congratulations.

however this best of doesn't make justice to Frank Black creativity.

I'm very disappointed by the Catholics selection.

I wasn't aware of the fact that "Dog In The Sand" was an underrated record. I was thinking otherwise. They could have chosen Robert Onion, The Swimmer and If It Takes All Night (maybe Bullet instead of). And for the first record, I'd have picked up Los Angeles, Ten Percenter, Fu Manchu and Every Time I Go Around Here.

But it still sounds good, hoping it will bring some new fans to him.

EDIT :

And Nadine isn't on the best of?!

The only track that leaves me scratching my head is "I Gotta Move." I think "Six-Sixty-Six" or "The Man Who Was Too Loud" would have been a better choice from the Catholics' self-titled.

Yeah, same here. I Gotta Move is probably my least favorite track on FB&TC. Dog Gone would have been great.
