IDWTHY is a good song. Plus, it was released as a single so it seems normal to put it on the comp.
I liked jackruby's idea (before he edited it) of a contest to guess the tracklist. Let's say everyone selects 20 songs, and the closest to the actual tracklist is declared a winner.

Could be a record-company issue -- permission and all that. That's just an uneducated guess, though.

In the press text he also speaks about the song "Show me your tears", saying it gave the name to the album and revealing its meaning. I know it was not oficialy on the album, but I cant see why that great song couldnt be on the best of. |

because Don't Clip Your Wings, Preacher's Daughter, Pan American Highway, Angst, Constant Sorrow Man were even better b-sides!

I agree, when I read those titles it really sounds like a best of selection, but I would change the "Angst" for Jumping Beans. |

Denis, sorry, that was my own confusion. I used to burn "Man of Steel" and "Village of the Sun" at the end of the Brown album, and so i associate those with the Catholics record. I don't think b-sides are usually fair game for a comp, so i was pointing out its on Oddballs, not FB&TCs. My own weird thing. Sorry.

Frank's comment on 'Pistolero' is the coolest thing I've read all week. It makes me love that album even more.
I will buying this compilation. Live/demos CD or no live demos CD (though that would be great if it's true that there will be one). I buy all Frank on sight. |

They put "Into The White" on the Pixies comp, didn't they? And they're putting "Tea In The Sahara" on the Police comp that's coming out - it's not a B-Side, but it wasn't hit or a single, they just played it at all the live shows, so it became a fan favorite.
I can see a live staple or popular B-Side making the comp, especially with an artist that doesn't have a stack of chart toppers anyways

It would be great if they keep some space for relatively unoticed songs: just 2 or 3 really weird choices that nobody could predict. A Best Of with personality. A DJ thing, not a Record Company thing. |

Having read the liner notes I'm sure many of the songs I put on my personal "best of" won't be on there and a few head scratchers, for me at least, will be. I readily admit my tatses are my own and they are based on nothing other than my pure enjoyment of the songs. I know very little of the backstories and productions of them I just know how they sound and how they make me feel. For instance, "The Swimmer", I have no idea what that song is about but it makes me tear up almost every time I hear it. I am actually stunned I'm the only one who put it on his personal list. On the flip side "His Kingly Cave" is kind of meh for me but is always mentioned by critics as being a great song and the best on the album. They'll mention its about Elvis and joey is on guitar but I could care less about that stuff, the song just doesn't grab me the way others do. *Shrug*
If I was a guessing man I think Frank will try to present the entire tapestry intead of what imo are strictly his "best" songs per say. (For instance TOTY is loaded and he can't put that many songs from one album on the compilation. I originally had 10 songs from TOTY on my list but I took off "Speedy Marie", "Fiddle Riddle", "Old Mulholland", "Superbound", and "White Noise Maker" just to keep it reasonably balanced.) I'm sure Frank will include songs that were different, or had particularly memorable stories behind their inspiration or making. I'm guessing this record would probably be more appropriately named FB "A Retrospective".
Regardless of what he puts on it I can't wait for this to be released. I really hope there are a bunch of never before heard things included as well. I can make my own "best of FB" from my collection anyways if I want to. Maybe I will.... :)

I wonder if the second disc will feature stuff that was meant to be on that proposed Catholics box set.

Strangely enough, "White Noise Maker" allways made me the impression of being Frank's absolute superhit, his "Satisfaction", his "You really got me"... Those plain major/minor bar chords in the chorus sound like the best song Pete Townsend ever wrote. And finaly it's a song nobody never quotes. |

I REALLY like the fact we all dig an artist that doesn't have a predictible list of hits that we would all guess would be on his "best of" alb. Also like the fact that this won't be his last best of alb, too. Nice to like an artist that's always recording stuff and doing cool stuff for the fans... i can't wait!

What incredible news! I do hate that he won't include Honeycomb and FMRM, b/c SMYT was my least favorite FB album, and I'm sure there will be a good chunk of songs on it since it's the closer. Still exciting though... -FranknWeezer |

It just seems a nice time period to choose, you know? Straight from Pixies breakup, to their reformation. Ten years is a snapshot of sorts.
