Hey, Frank is doing a live in-studio session today at 2PM Pacific Time on KEXP. (Sorry if someone else already posted, if so - I didn't see it). Out-of-towners can listen streaming at www.kexp.org. Live tonight at the Showbox too! Can't wait. |

Nice. Thanks for catching that, DeBased. KEXP is a fantastic station, by the way. A friend in the Northwest turned me on to it several years ago.

They usually do. I was recording but then stopped to listen back to the water. My grrlfriend's watching a crap film on t.v while i'm listening to great music. How opposites attract!

Glad some were able to enjoy the broadcast. He answered a question of mine online which was very fun :-). KEXP is great. The morning DJ is a big Pixies fan. For any very local folks, FB is doing a short-notice in store appearance at 5 or 6 pm tonight (can't confirm exact time) at Easy Street Records. This was mentioned during the interview.

Am I the only one who catches the irony of one of the all-time rock-and-roll greats doing a fucking IN-STORE appearance? Remember the in-store scene in Spinal Tap? In that case, those guys were worthless to begin with and were washed up by that point. In this case, here's a bona fide legend, who's still at the top of his game, and yet he's somehow this unnoticed commodity, strumming an acoustic guitar in a record store. How lucky are the few who will see him this afternoon.

Don't see too much wrong with this. FB has always done these type of things. helps keep you grounded. In fact, I hope they (Pixies) do end up playing biker rallys with daredevil stuntmen at state fairgrounds co-headlining with Blue Oyster Cult...

All I'm saying is wrong with it is that Frank continues to be such an unknown artist. It baffles me.

True enough. I paid $10 or $15 to see him earlier this year. Then again, I drove 550 miles each way!

There's a certain niceness to having him accessible and I take comfort in the fact that the music world does eventually seem to catch on to FB (albeit about 10 years behind us), but I suppose I would trade all that for the man to have the credit, respect, and status that he deserves. However meaningless those may be (unless they're traded into money).

Frank deserves the credit and respect -- and the money. But hey, read about people like Stephen Foster or Mozart, guys who didn't make squat, but whose music will forever be with us.
This show's available on archive now. It's a bit of a pain to find, though. As far as I can tell, you have to listen through the first 45 minutes of the 2:00 hour before he comes on. What I mean is, he showed up at 2:45, but you can't start there. You have to start at 2:00, and I haven't figure out how to fast-forward. Maybe someone else can. And maybe some kind soul (fbc?) will record this and put it up on sendspace or whatever.

i have to agree with the poster who is stumped that frank is still unknown and doesn't enjoy the popular adoration he so richly deserves. what gives? his songs are very accessible...it must just be marketing. or the masses are as clueless as always .
can someone up the in-store to a site like sendspace? i'm not savvy to the torrents, and last time i tried to register at that site it told me i'm not cool enough. go figure. |

Keep trying, they free some accounts every 10-15. That's how I got mine. I'd send you an invite if there were such a thing. :)

Moksha: To find the kexp recording go to the kexp.org website and find the streaming archive section. Enter the date and time to start listening (Nov 13 & I'd have to take a guess at the time-around 2:30?). this link might take you to the archive http://www.kexp.org/streamarchive/archive_time.asp
I will check out the in-store recording. How cool someone posted it! |
