Hey,
Frank is doing a live in-studio session today at 2PM Pacific Time on KEXP.
(Sorry if someone else already posted, if so - I didn't see it).
Out-of-towners can listen streaming at www.kexp.org.
Live tonight at the Showbox too! Can't wait.

Frank Black photos, live at KEXP

Yesterday we had a real treat… Frank Black performed live and
chatted with Kevin for nearly an hour. Most in-studio performances are
about half that long, but he was really funny and affable. Most of the
artists we have at the station spend a lot of time on the road and it
can be tough. Frank Black came straight down from Canada, performed
live on the air, went straight to Easy Street for an in-store
performance, and presumably went right down to the Showbox for
sound check. Despite all the travel, he was very talkative, willing to
answer listener’s questions, and was even willing to talk a little bit
about the Pixies. It was truly a pleasure. Check out these photos from
the in-studio, courtesy of Greg Perez and go to the Streaming
Archive
to listen to the performance. Select Mon, Nov.13, 2006 and
punch in 2:45pm to listen.

I wouldn't call trying to sing a few words and barely a sound coming out "raspy", but it was great to hear. These new songs are bringing something extra (and special) out of him (that was always there, just not so much over the last few years/records)

Only a few shows left to go.
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 11/15/2006 : 06:22:13
Well, he says in the KEXP one that he used to lose his voice completely and now it just gets raspy "like Rod Stewart or something". He also says he didn't really get to warm up the pipes that particular morning.

That said, he was on the 9th show of a 9-show run when he was in Saskatoon and it's only slightly detectable (crown of thorns breaks a little bit).

fbc Posted - 11/15/2006 : 04:49:49
I found it funny (ed to clarify: funny haha) that during the radio interview someone asked fB if he could still scream like the old days, then hearing his voice crack up only a few hours later during the in-store as he hollers Dead Man's Curve (i think that's the one). Frank only knows what his vocal coach must be thinking. (ed: )

I like it, though. There's passion in his voice all in the name of rock, but I want him to be okay for any future U.K show. He can lose his voice there.

I can totally back you up on this, as I was just listening to the KEXP session and his voice cracks at a few points (beginning of "Raider Man" for example). I'm glad the tour ends soon, because the man and his vocal cords must be so wiped by this point; especially after constant performances of "That Burnt Out Rock 'n' Roll" and the new scream-a-thon version of "Six-Sixty-Six".

Keep trying, they free some accounts every 10-15. That's how I got mine. I'd send you an invite if there were such a thing. :)

Yeah......I just tried to register at Dime a Dozen, but they said "Its Full". Could someone up to Oink??

I was looking for the KEXP show? but the in-store sounds great! Does anyone know how to find the KEXP recording?
Larry Diamond Posted - 11/14/2006 : 07:56:17
i have to agree with the poster who is stumped that frank is still unknown and doesn't enjoy the popular adoration he so richly deserves. what gives? his songs are very accessible...it must just be marketing. or the masses are as clueless as always .

can someone up the in-store to a site like sendspace? i'm not savvy to the torrents, and last time i tried to register at that site it told me i'm not cool enough. go figure.
coastline Posted - 11/14/2006 : 07:26:05
Holy smokes -- who recorded the in-store?

Did anyone record this and post it online anywhere??? Can Someone??
They haven't archived it I don't know if they will??
Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 11/13/2006 : 20:20:51
Yeah, but posthumous glory's not exactly making me warm and fuzzy I guess...

Frank deserves the credit and respect -- and the money. But hey, read about people like Stephen Foster or Mozart, guys who didn't make squat, but whose music will forever be with us.

This show's available on archive now. It's a bit of a pain to find, though. As far as I can tell, you have to listen through the first 45 minutes of the 2:00 hour before he comes on. What I mean is, he showed up at 2:45, but you can't start there. You have to start at 2:00, and I haven't figure out how to fast-forward. Maybe someone else can. And maybe some kind soul (fbc?) will record this and put it up on sendspace or whatever.

Cult_Of_Frank Posted - 11/13/2006 : 19:58:19
There's a certain niceness to having him accessible and I take comfort in the fact that the music world does eventually seem to catch on to FB (albeit about 10 years behind us), but I suppose I would trade all that for the man to have the credit, respect, and status that he deserves. However meaningless those may be (unless they're traded into money).

True enough. I paid $10 or $15 to see him earlier this year. Then again, I drove 550 miles each way!

I'm stumped as well, a bright side is we don't have to shell out a months pay to get to see a killer show +)

All I'm saying is wrong with it is that Frank continues to be such an unknown artist. It baffles me.

Don't see too much wrong with this. FB has always done these type of things. helps keep you grounded. In fact, I hope they (Pixies) do end up playing biker rallys with daredevil stuntmen at state fairgrounds co-headlining with Blue Oyster Cult...

Glad some were able to enjoy the broadcast. He answered a question of mine online which was very fun :-). KEXP is great. The morning DJ is a big Pixies fan.
For any very local folks, FB is doing a short-notice in store appearance at 5 or 6 pm tonight (can't confirm exact time) at Easy Street Records. This was mentioned during the interview.

Heh! EDF Energy. It's only just clicked.
