Since we've sort of inadvertently named this song, I thought maybe we should discuss potential titles for the song. What would you call it? I'll put this into the main page poll when I have some suggestions but I thought this might be fun.

Here's the lyrics:
http://www.frankblack.net/songs/Default.asp?mode=index&songID=329

Bring on the suggestions!

Stream of thought leading to random conclusion:

Away from the water -> Water Away -> Waterway -> Waterwaya

"Now you're officially my woman. Kudos. I can't say I don't envy you."

what about 'Uisge beatha' which is gaelic for 'water of life' and from which the word whisky is derived.

How about Uisce (Irish for water), or Uisce Batha ("the water of life"-whiskey!)?

What do you mean, no?!

Here's a blurb about all the mysterious properties of water that you may not have known or at least thought about.

I always find it a little weird when a song is named from something other than what is found in the actual song. Bearing that in mind, I think "The Water" is a very appropriate title.

But I still like "The Water" just fine.

The best I could do is Desertion.

Desert is an interesting word with two historical lines and pronunciations (The Gobi Desert/your just deserts)
(American Heritage)
1 An empty or forsaken place [on earth, in the arctic or in the sea]
2 Something that is deserved or merited, especially a punishment
3 To forsake one's duty or post, especially to be absent without leave from the armed forces with no intention of returning.

something that is deserved - Latin deservive, to thoroughly serve
a wasteland/to abandon - Latin deserere, to forsake
dessert, a sweet at the end of a meal - French Desservir, to un-serve

or maybe evacuation, heh.

A song about guts and why men drink. It's brilliant, John Wayne would have loved it.

'The Water' doesn't seem quite right.

I think I heard FB say this song was about his father. And I understand that his father was killed in whitewater rafting accident. So...

How about "Montezuma's Revenge" or "South of the Border"

[edit]
Since the song is most likely about Mexico or more specifically Tijuana (Sailors, Volkswagens, Bullfights and the awful "drinking water") I think "Montezuma's Revenge" would be an appropriate title. Definition of Montezuma's Revenge

"Our Love is Rice and Beans and Horses Lard"

I like "The Water" for personal reasons ;)

However, if the subject matter is correct, and it is a very personal song to FB, maybe he would want to title it something more personal/special. It was a very powerful performance when he sang it solo acoustic. I think he might have even had his eyes closed the whole time singing it.
